Steelers lose Big Ben, backup QB looks like trash. Ravens put up 55 in a blowout win, Steelers struggle to beat the Chiefs. Who wants any part of the Steelers?
Well, apparently noone so far. Up to today, 9,700 bets have been placed ATS on this game with 92% of them being on the road team.
This is my favorite bet in ALL sports and always warrants a big play. Backing a championship veteran team the first game without their star QB is the best bet you can make in the NFL. Every single player on the Steelers roster will put forth 150% effort in this one to prove they can win without their star QB.
This Steelers team has won multiple superbowls over the years, think they won't be excited to prove to the world on primetime SNF they can beat their most hated rival without their star QB?
Offensive line will block like it's 4th down every down. Defensive line will rush the passer like it's 4th down every down. Steelers will win matchups at every position throughout the game.
Don't get me wrong, Ravens want this win too but they have the pressure in this one whereas the Steelers are out to prove something. Ravens had a 3 game lead in the division and now it's cut down to 1 as the Steelers are now right down their neck. The Ravens can not lose this game now that Big Ben is out. They are now expected to go into Pittsburgh and come out with the win.
Pressure vs Determination. Which would you choose?
My play of the year last year was the Eagles over the Giants the week after Vick got injured. Vince Young came into the game as 6 point underdogs receiving tons of criticism and won the game outright 17-10 against the Giants. Won big in a similar situation with the Steelers against the Falcons first game without Big Ben in 2010 as well. Steelers defense held the Falcons to 9 points as D. Dixon led the Steelers to a 15-9 win.
Ravens will be lucky to sniff 17 points here.

Being a Ravens fan I almost never bet with or against my team and with it being against the steelers I would never bet the Squealers....But from a pure capping aspect I love the play. GL

As a huge Steelers fan I hope they win...and in grand fashion but this will def. be a game of character...
I would like the play if Batch was QB but Leftwich can't carry an offense. he;s going to struggle and struggle bad... his release is just so long that closing the gap on a receiver will be easy.
they key to a W will obv. be the D and there must be constant pressure and turnovers...something the Steelers have been lacking over the years..
BOL man...I hope you win, and win big but this bet is terrifying

I love the way you think! I am all over the Steelers in this one too. All the public saw was that Pitt barely squeeked by a horrible KC team in OT when Ben went down. Now, they are expected to beat their rival Balty without their star qb??? NO WAY... To quote Lee Corso, "NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!" People need to take a look at Balty's defense this year. They are ranked about 27th overall and about 26th vs. the pass and 26th vs. the run. They are missing key defensive playmakers in Webb and Lewis. Pitt's defense is #1 overall. I am so confident it Pitt winning, I am betting them in my weekly pool and the line is Pitt -3.5. The lines obviously came out before the injury.

Also my favorite play of the week by far. How can anyone trust this Ravens D on the road on a Sunday night in Pittsburgh??? Leftwich being at the helm will not matter. Pittsburgh will rush for over 200 yds and control the line of scrimmage and Leftwich wont be asked to do much. Add the fact that the public is pounding the ravens and it all adds up to a steelers win. Funny part is, I think after they beat the ravens this week, they lose next week at the Browns.

Love it except for Leftwich as QB...ravens will stack the line on every down and I still have no faith that Leftwich will hit an open receiver. Don't get me wrong I love the logic in this one...just not enough to put a wager on it.

I have the inside scoop on this game. Not wiseguy info or some clown saying he "he got the call". My information is more around Big Ben, but one thing to consider is Leftwich will be getting a lot of snaps this week during practice. He usually gets next to no snaps. Also he did get a taste of some live football on the field last week. I still dont believe he will be able to overcome the Ravens defense and the fact that Baltimore is putting up a lot of points I would have to lean heavily on Baltimore -3.5. Nevertheless good luck to you and by game time I could be on the same side.

I'm also starting to think the play's on the home team tonight, and possibly ML and outright win. A short week for both, yes one day shorter for Pitt but they were home last game and remained home for this one. Given the fact the new O Coordinator Todd Haley's calling the plays, I think he draws up enough short and safe throws for Leftwich to at least keep the Ravens honest, and make them respect the pass. He ran similar offenses at both his stops. Run to pass, not the other way around. When they do throw look for them to go after Corey Graham who's replacing Jimmy Smith, who replaced Ladarious Webb. Keep the ball out of "one armed" Ed Reed's hands, and a win in a low scoring game is a very distinct possibility.
Keeping Leftwich clean is paramount, and I expect the O-line to do just what you said and play their best game of the year. BOL
