Good stat to know for predicting super bowl outcomes.
exactly.
that’s why I cashed chiefs futures last season and have them winning the SB again this year

this is a great point. Mahomes does run more in the postseason, but not a crazy amount, maybe 2 more attempts and 15 yards per game. If he also ran more in the regular season he’d be much more likely to get injured
good observation.

Depends. If the QB has a cannon with accuracy like the aforementioned Russel Wison, no.
But if he becomes 1 dimensional and then can't target receives when running is taken away, yes.

haha I remember when Young first came into the league he seemed to run for a crazy amount of yardage, but now Lamar runs for 2x that amount
if any team blows up my theory about running QBs this year it’ll probably be the ravens who will win the SB

ejjj mahommes this yea the o line is horrible so he running more than usual still every team in the league would send millions to get him i'd pay him 40 million a year

Nice question to ponder. The flip side is probably more relevant in today's NFL..."Can a QB run too little?" After watching Darnold get creamed last weekend, I would say the answer is a definite 'yes.' QBs don't necessarily have to be like Fran Tarkington, but they need to be mobile enough to keep the defense guessing. Mahomes has it down to an art form.

Two that I feel break that trend would be Allen or Jackson. Both are amazing at the position.
Goff has been phenomenal and that team is very deserving to go and win the whole thing, going by the existing “pocket” QB trend.
I feel Stroud could come into his own either this year or next. He’s a very poised player, but needs the protection obviously.
we shall see on Saturday, or possibly next year if they draft some O-line

How about Burrow, Stroud, Tua, Carr?

Bingo ! And this is a large component of what separates the elite QBs from the average QBs. The only part I disagree on is the last part ; processing speed "" is "" a function of one's intelligence.

I consider a running qb a qb whose best asset is his legs that doesnt really fit the bill of any starter in the league today unless maybe richardson and huntley

I took a look at teams in conference finals games from the present and 5 and 10 and 15 years ago. Obviously there are 4 teams from each year.
QB Rushing yds reg season……combined total for the 4 finals QBs
2009 133
2014 1448
2019 648
2024 2359
————————
TEAM PASSING YDS/GM regular season (avg for the 4 finals teams)
2009 240
2014 257
2019 243
2024 212
————————
TEAM RUSHING YDS/GM (avg for the 4 finals teams)
2009 127
2014 124
2019 123
2024 142
————————
QB RUSHING yds per game 2024 playoffs
43 Daniels
53 Hurts
33 Allen
14 Mahomes
These numbers are pretty close to their regular season stats
————————
Receivers playing in conf. Finals who ranked in top 30 reg season yards
rank….player….reg season yards
2009
3 S RICE 1312
5 R WAYNE 1264
16 D CLARK 1106
18 M COLSTON 1074
2014
4 J NELSON 1519
6 TY HILTON 1345
11 R COBB 1287
15 R GRONKOWSKI 1124
25 J EDELMAN 972
27 B LAFELL 953
2019
4 T KELCE 1229
23 G KITTLE 1053
24 AJ BROWN 1051
30 D ADAMS 997
2024
15 T MCLAURIN 1096
17 AJ BROWN 1079
only 2 receivers who ranked in top 30 are playing this weekend
————————
Conclusion….its a small sample size, but the numbers show that teams passing is down, with more emphasis on rushing, and QB rushing in particular
