How can you say that Gibbs didn't cost them the game by fumbling at his own 24 yard line, which turned into a quick td and tie game?
I know fumbles are random or what not, but it's a running backs job to secure the ball on every carry. It sucks for him but it happened. If he doesn't fumble, the Lions win the turnover battle 1-0.
So in essence, you're saying that it's a coache's(Campbell's) job to overcome every fumble, interception, dropped ball, penalty or any other mistake, with his decision making?
That's a big ask. I think Campbell stayed aggressive like he has all season. They almost won a game as a 7.5 dog.

Totally agree. Firing Dan Campbell would be ludicrous. He has the lions on the right path. He is definitely the type of guy who will learn from this and be better.
I am sure he has some regrets about yesterdays game. He will have the Lions back in the NFC Championship again

Campbell's Lions were the NFL's most aggressive fourth-down team throughout the regular season, going for it 33.9% of the time overall and 50.8% of the time in opponent territory. On fourth-and-3 or less in plus territory, they went for it on 18-of-21 opportunities, converting 15 of them. In the playoffs, there were 2 for 2 in those situations prior to the NFC title game.
Before the half he kicked it on 4th and 3 which I thought was the right call but was kind of out of character for Dan. Maaaybe he should of kicked it on the first 4th down in 2nd half to go back up 3 scores. Might of been a mistake in that situation. But maybe Dan just couldn't trust his kicker from 30 yards out and 15 of 18 is a pretty good conversion rate on 4th down.

When you have a chance to tie kicking a 47 yarder in the 4th, you go for the tie. No excuses.
And then let the 49ers suck the clock and drive for the winning score? I think it was pretty clear the defense was not stopping them. Why not have the offense(best part of team) decide the teams fate and try and go up 4 and put some pressure on Purdy to drive the length of field for a td to win. Its debatable but I like the call especially with their conversion rate in that situation. The 1st 4th down I think was the mistake maybe. To get back up 3 scores I think would of been huge.

As much as I like Dan Campbell he handed that game back to SF on a SILVER PLATTER. The fumble as Goff said was his fault as much as it was Gibbs it was 50/50. Campbell on the other hand gambled like it was the 11th or 12th game of the schedule its the NFC Championship game use your fuking noodle. Fourth and 2 not fourth and inches and I literally mean inches like the nose of the football. Try one of two things if you are not sure on your field goal kicker pouch punt the ball try and trap them at the 3 or 4 yard line they have one of the best kickers in the entire league. And the defense had just snuffed them on the last drive so make them go the entire field to score again. Sorry in my opinion the Gibbs fumble had nothing to do with loss Campbell has one more chance to tie the game with a fg makes the same mistake and goes on fourth Campbell cost them the game. Smart coaches like BB and Andy Reid kick fgs in those situations EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely its the RB's job to secure the ball but there have been thousands that have not in the NFL's history. That wasn't a case as Goff said it was 50% his fault Gibbs never really got the hand off properly never really had control to secure the ball hence Goff taking 50% fault.

Almost won doesn't cut it for me close only counts like they say in horseshoes and hand gernades. I had the Lions alt line -1.5 at +300 and I really don't care about the wager they owned that game and Campbell gave the momentum away and that was the ball game.

the people who are putting all the fault on Dan are wrong. he made decisions that backfired, but those are the same decisions he made all year that put the team in this position to make a Super Bowl. Detroit was a terrible team until Dan took over and he was just a few minutes away from making a SB. He's way better than most coaches out there.
Gibbs fumble hurt.
The missed INT on the deep ball that SF ended up catching hurt
Not stopping SF multiple times in the 2nd half hurt
Kicking the very long FGs arent gimmes. They would have helped but it was never going to be a given they would make it. Going for it was probably the right match thing to do if you dont really trust your kicker (who is fairly new to the team, btw) to make a very long FG on grass.
Dan is great. He gambled and lost. But if you blame him, then you also blame the players who couldnt execute the 4th downs. Stuff they practiced all year.
Detroit just had some bad breaks in the 2nd half and SF took advantage.

You gamble like I have said in here over and over in the reg season 12 game 14 game there are games to make up from gambles that don't work you DON'T gamble with 22 or 23 mins left in the NFC Championship game like I said if you are not sure of the fg pouch punt the ball down inside SF's 10 yd line you have a short field to trap them make them drive the entire field in order to score the Lions would have still been up 24-10 but now you have given SF great field position and more importantly momentum. Pretty simple football make no mistake Campbell cost the Lions the game.
