In real time, I thought I saw this but only on the rewatch did I confirm it.
Lions get the INT up by 8 with 1:33 left and the Bucs have 1 timeout.
For some reason, when Goff kneels it - he snaps the second down play and the third down play very early in the play clock.
1st down, kneel at 1:33 and no timeout by TB. 2nd down, kneel at 1:06 and not timeout by TB. 3rd down, kneel at 37 seconds. TB has a timeout, they are down by 8, and they dont call it. In a playoff game.
I realize the Lions had a chip shot FG on 4th. But if you call a timeout with 37 secs left, a block - a miss - lots of stuff can happen.
Not sure there is another coach who would have not called a timeout there and just give up on your season - no matter how bleak the prognosis is.

I think it was mutual coaches to not delay the game. Once bowles didn't call the first timeout it was probably assumed game was over by both coaches so the lions started to snap early. I think bowles wouldve been bush league to call a timeout on 3rd down. The lions could've drained it to almost the end of game if they wanted to

I agree with the first part. I am sure that Campbell felt like Bowles wouldnt call the TO after not calling it on 1st down.
But after the Lions F up the playclock (which they did throughout the whole 4th qtr with a lead, Atlanta Falcons style) - dont you think that all bets are off at that point?

When your entire season is on the line you absolutely need to call timeout. A fumbled snap could be the miracle that propels you to the Superbowl. I hate when coaches give up.

Yeah it's a interesting scenario that I haven't seen. Wouldve been interesting to see Dan Campbell's reaction to this move by bowles but I think bowles is a old school type of coach and respects the unwritten rules.

i've seen in other games at the end..one coach will signal to the other coach that they concede the loss. in those cases, i would think it's an honor thing to let the team kneel it out and finish it.

Saw the same thing and couldnt believe it. They knealed with 35 seconds left and they had TO. Not sure if the TV had the TOs wrong or what but I dont get how you dont use it.

As a Lions fan I was screaming at the TV when Goff knelt down with 20 secs left on the play clock but was shocked TB didn't use a timeout. I just assumed at the time that there was a graphic error on the TV and that TB didn't actually had a timeout. Wasn't til later that I found our they still actually had one. I'm horrified at both coaches time management. That could have cost the Lions a win.

I do love this kind of thinking Van. But we'll have to wait and see
Did anyone ask Bowles about surrendering after the game?
I do believe I've had enough

If we want to talk about coaching, let's point out some positives eh?
How about the Ravens OC Todd Monken adjusting to the Texans unexpected blitzing? That in itself was a brilliant strategy by Demeco Ryans to catch the Ravens off guard.
Then Monken sured up the protection in the 2H, and called quick strike passes, which Lamar executed with precision.
It was a great game of chess.
Then in the Bills and Chiefs game. How about the Bills coming out with 6 o linemen and opposing their will onto the Chiefs with the run game for about 3/4's of the game. Some how, some way, Spagnuolo stopped the bleeding. They forced 2 punts from the Bills(one of which was a fake). This was with 12:49 left in the game. The 2nd punt was with 10:45 left.
Anyone watching saw a game where neither defense could stop anyone, and it felt like the team with the ball last would win.
The Chiefs didn't punt until the 4th quarter themselves. Add in a fumble at the 1, those 2 turnovers kept it a close game.

Detroit could have kneeled out the clock without issue. They kinda effed up the clock mgmt and Bowles could have been a d-bag and called timeout because of Detroit's stupidity. Maybe a bit like "conceding the putt" in some golf matches. A "gentleman's agreement" there
I get people's complaint about what Bowles did but in reality the Loins could have ran out the clock there. Hopefully both teams learned from it. Both coaches should take a little heat from it
