GucciCapper hopes everyone had a profitable weekend. GucciCapper fell in love with both of these teams last year which ended up costing GucciCapper some cash in the playoffs. This will not be the case this year, as mathematically it would be very hard for both of these teams to make the playoffs. So tonight we have one team trying to stay atop the division (Chiefs) while the Chargers needing to win 6 straight to win the division. What we should get is a hard fought December like football game played down in Mexico City in the high altitude. If this is anything like the last time the Chiefs and Chargers played, GucciCapper will be very happy.
So GucciCapper we are going to take a healthy Mahomes in primetime against a Charger team that couldn't beat the Raiders on Thursday Night Football? No, we are not. We are going to back Rivers and the Chargers in a MUST win game.
If the Chargers win this game, they are right back in the conversation for the AFC West. The Chargers would be 5-6, the Chiefs would be 6-5 and the Raiders are sitting at 6-4 currently. Both the Chiefs and Chargers have a bye, and the Raiders go into New York as small 3 point road favorites. After the bye, the Chargers go into Denver for a win (6-6) while the Chiefs (7-5) beat the Raiders (7-5). Literally, all the Chargers would need to do is keep pace with the Chiefs and beat them in Kansas City in Week 17 for the tiebreaker. GucciCapper is positive that the Raiders will falter down the stretch.
So there's a TON of motivation for the Chargers tonight. Mahomes says this is a MUST win game for the Chiefs, but GucciCapper isn't buying it. Even if the Chiefs lose, they will destroy the Raiders after their bye and still be in 1st place. This isn't a must win for the Chiefs, it's a MUST win for the Chargers. If you think the Chiefs have a shot at a 1st Round Bye this year which makes this a MUST win for the Chiefs, GucciCapper disagrees.
So onto the game please GucciCapper.
It's quite obviously that the Chargers have protection problems upfront. With Russell Okung ruled out again, the Chargers need to get the ball out of Rives' hand fast. GucciCapper expects a lot of Melvin Gordon tonight against a Chiefs defense that can't stop anyone. On top of that, the Chiefs are missing two defensive starters on the line which will allow Rivers to not be on his back throughout the game.
On the other side of the ball, GucciCapper is very curious what Ingram and Bosa will do to Mahomes. We are know Mahomes likes to hold the ball and try to make the big play, but with these two studs chasing him around all game, GucciCapper expects Mahomes to make a few crucial mistakes. GucciCapper expects the Chiefs to obviously score, but as long as Rivers can limit his turnovers, GucciCapper expects the Chargers to keep pace.
The Chargers went into Colorado and practiced all week in high elevation. The Chiefs did not, but Mahomes said they were trying to hydrate more during practice. GucciCapper likes the idea of the team bonding together on the road and GucciCapper expects Rivers and company to come out completely focus. Guys, these Chargers are actually a really good team if Rivers doesn't shoot them in the foot.
GucciCapper would assume that there would be more Chargers fans in the crowd as San Diego is right on the border with Mexico. Even if this isn't the case, GucciCapper thinks getting 5 points on a neutral field is way too much. Don't look as past results boys. We know the Chiefs have dominated this series lately. Take the more desperate team tonight in Mexico City. Even if Rivers does blow it at the end, GucciCapper is quite confident that he will cover the 5 points.
GucciCapper is predicting a Chargers victory, but staying discipline and taking the 5 points tonight instead. We all know Rivers likes to mount big comebacks in the 2nd half that ultimately fall short. GucciCapper doesn't want to feel that pain if the Chargers cover but lose outright. Take the points and enjoy what should be a great game played in Mexico City.
