Question

(Eagles -8 vs Texans) Eagles had won 3 straight games off the bye before going into Chicago & losing & ending up tied for 1st place in their division after the Giants beat the Jaguars. Philly does hold the tie breaker over the Giants as of now. Seems like the Eagles & Giants will be battling until the last week of the season to win the division. Vick got the loss out of the way after getting hyped up alot past several weeks.

The Texans sitting at 5-6 shut out the imploding Titans 20-0 & had a chance to beat the Jets two weeks ago but this Texans team has been unlucky in several games this year & I dont see anything changing here as far as them winning the game SU.

The Eagles have back to back division road games starting next week at Dallas & then at the Giants so I dont see them going all out in this game but I do see the Eagles winning it by 3 to 6 points.

PTB thank you for another insightful post. Whether or not I agree with your picks, I always appreciate being able to following the logic in your picks.

Question: How comfortable do you feel about your margin for error between your base line case (Eagles win by 3 to 6 points) and the +8 you are getting with Houston?

I realize that I am going to make the obvious square observation here, but the Eagles have one of the best offenses in NFL going up against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL and Vick will have a lot of targets downfield. While the Texans have one of the better run defenses, I don't know if they as is applicable in this game because you have 2 runners to worry about (McCoy and Vick).

The Texans defense is very weak but their offense is better than the Bears imo &amp; that is what will keep the Texans in this game &amp; stay inside the number. The Bears defense kept Vick on his toes the whole game &amp; that is something a team needs to do to beat Vick &amp; the Eagles. I dont think the Texans can beat the Eagles but I do think they cover. Usually when I cap a game, I try predict the winner of the game &amp; if my team is a dog, the points are a bonus.

Wanted to be on the Eagles but -8 is a big number against a really good Offense like the Texans, even if Asante Samuel plays he won't be at 100%, still deciding on the Texans or Eagles but I've already got the over.

I agree with you that Texans defense is weak and their offense is much better than the Bears.  I think Bears caught Eagles on a down game.  Further, the defense for Philly is not that bad they made Cutler look incredible and he blows.  The Eagles looked tired/sluggish/not up for the game.  Also the Bears Redzone defense was the difference maker they dug in deep and made philly kick 4 FGs and they still only won by 5.  I this game has the potential for Eagles to win big.I personally will probably lay off because last thing I want to see is Eagles up 14 in the 4th quarter and have Schuab throw a bomb to AJohnson to backdoor cover....Good luck this week!

This is going to be one of these games that by the end of the first quarter, you are all pulling your hair out yelling, "Why did I bet on these losers?!?!" The Eagles are going to dismantle Houston....its a terrible terrible terrible spot for the Texans. Philly played 3 huge games in a row...won them all...and then had to go play Chicago in what was the Bears biggest game of the year. And if they had converted their red zone oppurtunities..or tackled anybody on that skating rink known as Soldier Field...they would have won that game too. Reid ripped into his team after that game..more so than any time in his tenure in Philly.

Now Houston, off of their first win in a few weeks, has to go into Philly on a really short week. They have a horrendous pass defense and no time to prepare. They are walking into a buzzsaw this week. If you "capped" this game as an Eagles win...but are still betting Houston "huge" you have made a serious error in judgement. The line tells you all you need to know. Clearly Vegas is trying to dissuade Eagles backers with such a large opening number. The number is not going to matter. POY Eagles.

Lets not forget that the Eagles had 2 of there star corners out do to injury and suspension. So I know it seems as if the Eagles got owned in the last game but there secondary was vulnerable do to the loss of these shut down corners. Making the Eagles have to play a funny 4-3 style of D, and that leads to runs up the gut and quick slants via the Eagles game. I really feel like this is a trap game, be careful because if they get them back for this Thursday game look for them to make a statement with Houston. Also as of late the Texans have been starting out slow scoring very little in the first half of there games and opening it up in the second half, if they follow that trend against the Eagles this game will get out of hand in a hurry. Seeing as the eagles were moving the ball at will against Chicago, the only reason this game was so lopsided is because of all the damn drops the Eagles had. I just thought I would put my two sense in. Good Luck to you all and happy betting. I really think that the points are pretty good very close to a lock.
