im confuse about the safety please explain

I didn't get to watch the end of it but when i log on here ppl are saying rigged Safety. From my understanding if it was a safety you don't get to decline or accept. Whats the rule on the saftey? what did i miss?

In this case it was a penalty in the end zone. The penalty can be declined.

Here is what happened.

The safety was called because of a penalty, not a sack in the endzone. They declined the penalty because they got the ball back on downs.

If they take the safety the Seahawks can do an onside kick of the free kick and puts a recovery and an injury into play for the 49ers. Taking the placement of the ball and not the safety gives the 49ers two kneel downs to win the game.

No possibility of injury and ends the game.

it was a 4th down. seattle completed pass but didn't make the 1st down. there was also a penalty for holding on seattle that occured in the endzone.

accept the penalty and 49ers are up 9 with seattle free kick. declined and 49ers ball.

not if seattle bumrushed like bucs did too giants lol.

all in all. wrong call. take the safety. you got to reward your defense for well played game and why not end the game with your defense putting the stamp on it.

blah blah blah about onside kick. what the seahawks had to do after an onside kick, score, recover and score is just about or less likely to occur than fumble snap out of 2 snaps.

Lets see, one bumrush against a 11 guys on each side at full speed after an onside kick. Which has more chance of injury. Seattle has never done the bumrush and no other team has so that chance is even less of happening then them scoring twice in 43 seconds.

ok it was never gonna be a safety even if niners was going to accept it. refs called it wrong. it would have been 4th and 27. you cannot get a safety for a holding call or a personal foul. it would have been called back and it would have been 4th and long. safetys can only be called if quarter back gets sacked in the end zone or gets an intentional grounding or they decide to just run backwards or snap the ball out of the end zone backwards. it was a dumb call and would have been called back anyways..

Here is what I posted on another thread....

I havent see anyone mentioned this yet, but Harbaugh simply told the ref that he wanted to accept the penalty (safety) if Seattle did indeed get the first down. Or if they determined it wasnt a first down, then he wanted to decline. Refs said no to first down, Harbaugh declined the penalty, his teams gets the ball, they kneel, Seattle had no TOs left. SF wins. The End.

The idiocy in this forum tonight is incredible, plain and simple, you always want to have the ball in your possession.

Harbaugh made the right call, ( I had seattle + 9.5, so it did not matter to me). All this talk about rewarding the defence and padding your score means shit to Harbaugh, his call guaranteed that Seattle would not touch the ball again.

First of all I dont see Seahawks trying an onside kick in that situation anyway. Down 9 with under a min to go they punt and Niners kneel down and win by nine. No reason to onside when the game has already been decided with a 9 pt lead and no chance of 2 onsides recoveries. It ended 13-6 when really if Harbaugh had some brains they would of won 15-6 Final!

Except you dont know this...all you know (if you're the HC) is that if you decline the penalty, you send your team out on the field to line up for a formation that has NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER lost an nfl game in the history of the sport. EVER. We've all seen miracle 2 possession comebacks. We've NEVERRRRRRR seen a botched lost snap when a team is kneeling down. was down 9 a longshot? Yep, <1%. The kneel was fullproof. ITS NEVER HAPPENED.

It has lost a game on a botched snap turnover. U think just because its called the victory formation means a snap has never been botched and turned over late in a game

Any half-decent coach would of done the same thing. Just imagine if the "penalty" didn't happened in the endzone. The game would of ended just the way it did.
