Indianapolis Colts @ New England Patriots
I spend a lot of time capping the coaching and OC/DC matchups, especially on Thursday night football. Teams that are better coached have a significant advantage when both teams are playing with only 3 days to prepare. That’s one of the reasons Belichick and Brady are 10-1 SU on Thursday night football.
However, I don’t think they have the coaching advantage tonight. Pats don’t have much to prepare on for Reich and his new personnel with the Colts, as he’s only been their coach for 4 games - and thus will only have these past 3 days to prepare with 4 games of tape.
However, Reich knows the Patriots very well. He was the OC for the Eagles last year and surely spent a lot of time game planning against New England already during the two weeks leading into the Superbowl. 17 days of preparation for Reich, vs 3 days of preparation for Belichick - I see a significant edge in this regard, and thus think this will be a close game with the Colts having a legit chance for an upset.
Note: I capped this game a few weeks ago, and have to downgrade the play slightly as the Colts played a full overtime period this past Sunday and lost TY Hilton to injury - but I still believe they are the right play and thus playing it for less.
