What stands out to me is all the talk about how bad NE defense is but when you look at NY defense is pretty much just as bad....
NE ranks 31st in Pass D and 17th in Rush D, but they are +17 in T/A. NE has allowed 342 Points this year, ranked 15th.
NY ranks 29th in Pass D and 19th in Rush D, they are +7 in T/A. NY has allowed 400 Points this year, ranked 25th.
I guess the question is, who has a better pass O?
NE ranks #2 in Pass O and #20 in Rush O. NE has scored 513pts.
NY ranks #5 in Pass O and #32 in Rush O. NY has scored 394pts.
I find it interesting that there is so much talk about how bad NE's Defense is, when NY's is equally as bad. The more I look at these stats, I believe NE is going to try and run the ball. I can see the Firm getting a ton of touches and even Hernandez getting some touches to open up the rushing game. In fact I like Hernandez as a darkhorse MVP. He could easily have a rushing TD and a reception TD. There is also alot of talk on Gronk's injury, but no one is talking about Bradshaws stress fracture in his foot.
The only lopsided stats I see are NE rushing O vs. NY rushing D. NE +17 in T/A and NY +7 in T/A. The pass O & pass D matchup is pretty equal. The other one that would stand out is strength of schedule, which is lopsided in NY favor.
The more I look at the more I like the under and the Pats -2.5, but not ready to jump just yet.

NE had 4 turnovers in the game earlier this year and they missed a field goal. This is definately not a habit by NE. Lastly, NY scored in the last few seconds on a large pass intererence penalty.
I am not sure how many times Balt. passed deep to Smith, but I remember at least 2 and one time he was wide open, but the pass was off. Cruz is much better than Smith and Manning won't miss the deep ball. This is another huge concern for me.

Stats are so overrated sometime like in this instance.
Keep in mind that NYG played without their full core of defenders for most of the season. Once they all got back playing healthy, the last month's results greatly differ from their overall season stats.

same could be said for the patriots, if not more so

Geez really? You are comparing the Giants defense vs the Patriot defense?? Giants were hurt all year. They were healthy the past 5 weeks? Shutout atl, would have held GB to 10 points if it weren't for the refs, SF didn't move the ball in the 2nd half.
Ravens were going up and down the field on the pats and Denver really?? I hope you can shut that team out. AFC is weak.
And if you really want to compare the year stats, take into account the pats played no one over 500 and the Giants had the hardest schedule in the league.
You don't know much about football if you think the pats are going into this game with a defense that is as good as the Giants. But you'll be familiar with TUCK-OSI-JJP-CANTY by about half way through the first quarter

Tim Tebow had a good record his first 8 games as a starter, I won 10 hands in a row in Blackjack 2 years ago, the Giants won a SB when the Bills kicker missed a field goal, the '85 Bears crushed the Patriots...We're concerned with this game, ya know

As a Patriot fan...just no. Giants have a ferocious pass rush that covers up any holes in their secondary. Pats defense has been playing well but is not at the level of the Giants.

Gotta love non-delusional Pats fans.
So few and far between.

Did some research. I looked into each team's opponents' ppg for the regular season. Giants' opponents averaged 23.5 ppg for the regular season. Patriots' opponents averaged 21.3 ppg for the regular season. Giants' schedule might not have been as hard as you would think.

I am just posting some stats. I am just tired of hearing how bad NE's defense is and how great NY's defense is. Bottom line is both defense's are pretty bad. Lets not forget that NE's defense was much worse in week 9 than it is now and the Giants won on a last second TD in a 4 point game, with a total under 44.
I am still not ready to pull the trigger on NE yet.

I like your thoughts on this thread. I think you can throw out all the stats on this game because when wild card teams get hot watch the fuck out. 2007 colts rush defense looked like a college team's but in the bowl they looked unstoppable.
I am going with my one simple trend....don't go against teams that played in the wild card.
enjoyed the thread

Short Answer: No
Stats can be misleading. The Giants D was at the bottom for the majority of the season. But these past 6 weeks or so have been a different story. That's where the difference is in this game. The Giants can get a consistent pass rush with 4 and drop everyone else back.

Please do not bet on this game if you think these defense are comparable at all. I don't care how many point the giants opponents averaged, they had the hardest schedule in the league.
The giants defense is night and day above the pats. Pats vs the ravens, how did ray rice do? how did flacco do? that guy is a average and he tore the pats up. The ravens are a defensive team and they went up and down the field on the pats.
There is not one aspect of the pats D that can take this game over. The giants D-line is the best in football, they on the other hand will take this game over..
