The Court didn’t seem to agree. Newly appointed Justice Sonia
Sotomayor stated, "I can very much see a counterargument that promoting
T-shirts is only to make money. It doesn't really promote the game. It
promotes the making of money. And once you fix prices for making money,
that's a Sherman [antitrust] Act violation."
Under
the current NFL labor deal, the players receive approximately 60
percent of league revenues. The NFL owners consider that to be too much.
After the “uncapped” 2010 NFL season, there’s reason to believe the
owners won’t allow the 2011 season to begin until they have a more
favorable deal which would likely lower the players’ revenue share to
perhaps 40 percent.
As Smith stated, “Has any one of the prior deals included $5 billion to not play football? The answer's no.”

Justice John Paul Stevens wrote, “Although NFL teams have common interests such as promoting the NFL brand, they are still separate, profit-maximizing entities, and their interests in licensing team trademarks are not necessarily aligned.” He continued exploring how the teams are individualized by writing that they compete “to attract fans, for gate receipts and for contracts with managerial and playing personnel.” He concluded, “Directly relevant to this case, the teams compete in the market for intellectual property. To a firm making hats [such as American Needle], the Saints and the Colts are two potentially competing suppliers of valuable trademarks.”
Stevens dismissed the NFL’s argument that teams need each other in order to play, writing, “A nut and a bolt can only operate together, but an agreement between nut and bolt manufacturers is still subject to [antitrust laws].”
The NFL feared that the Court’s ruling “would convert every league of separately owned clubs into a walking antitrust conspiracy” resulting in more potential lawsuits, but Stevens disagreed.
"The fact that NFL teams share an interest in making the entire league successful and profitable, and that they must cooperate in the production and scheduling of games, provides a perfectly sensible justification for making a host of collective decisions," he said.

Though the NFL lost, what is important to take away from this case is the reality of the league’s make-up. Despite what the Justices ruled, the NFL sees itself not as 32 independent entities; it considers itself one unit. While that argument was made before the Supreme Court, the existence of the league’s revenue sharing program should have previously proved that truth. Approximately 80% of the $8-9 billion the NFL earns each year is divided equally among its teams. No pro sports league shares its profits to that extent.
The bulk of those profits come directly from the league’s product: the games. As the NFL argued, everything it does is to both support and promote the games.
The biggest problem is that the games do not have to be on the level.
The NFL’s own lawyer stated that the league competes in the “entertainment marketplace.” Because NFL football is in fact entertainment and nothing more, perhaps that was why in yet another court ruling, it was proven that the NFL could fix its own games and legally get away with it.

Would you still be whining about the game being fixed if the Saints only ended up winning by 1?
Funny how only the ones who lost come out and cry Fix every night....
I'm not saying it is or isnt. As a sports fan, I wish games weren't fixed, but I've been screwed over too many times to be that naive. Yea its frustrating to be on the wrong side, but it is what it is. Thats gambling. Not only are you betting on the 2 teams playing; you're also trying to pick the right side of the fix. If you can't handle that simple fact, then you should just stop throwing your money away.

The NBA was never fixed either, No rogue officials nothing of a sort. FUCK OFF and this goes to all you morons who do not believe the NFL and All major sports are on the up and up.' Who the hell are you ignorant imbeciles to make such statements when there is proof that things arent exactly what they seem?
You all have a-lot of balls to call others names when you dont know your own asses from a hole in the ground to begin with.
You like all sheep dismiss the obvious to remain with your flock of idiots and cowards.
You have no ability to think outside the box, nor do you intend to comprehend factual data spanning from the early 70s to todays modern era.
Dan Moldea wrote one of the greatest books regarding the NFL and its fixed games called INTERFERENCE, How Organized crime influences professional football
Brian Touhay has a website called thefixisin.net where he highlights what he believes are fixes.
Tim Donaghy an NBA referee was caught fixing games.
in 1999 there was a U of M blind study of College football referees that admitted they had a financial interest on games they worked, and no Im not gonna look it up for you as if you are dumb enough to believe its all on the up and up, You do not deserve someone to do the work for you, Go fucking do it yourself and become less of a sheep and a little bit more of a wolf.
God Damn I hate some of you so much when you post and respond so stupidly, Nothing more Id love to do then club you in your smug faces with a baseball bat and scramble your brain cells so you stop being pathetic followers and become somewhat like real men, Maybe then your women wont be coming to my place and others like me to get there rocks off.
In other words Be fucking men and stop being the meak of the earth.
Mafioso you speak the truth my friend. There are countless accounts and overwhelming proof that sports are fixed.By who?obviously the people in the dark who really run things as well as other authorities. Whoever thinks otherwise is a real half wit...

Sorry lefty but you just made a real asshole assumption there, I could careless what game people are crying about today or yesterday, We are talking facts here, Facts backed by solid reasoning, this isnt a Oh shit they screwed me on a fixed game, NO NO NO NO NO this is about are games fixed? and you have the right to believe they are not I have the right to believe they are If I respect the fact you have an opinion I view as flawed, Ill keep it to myself until you or someone else puts me on blast for my opinion, then I will attack with furious anger and facts that you nor any of the non believers can dispute.
You are trying to turn this into a crying fix thread and im not going to let you do that, because thats not what it is, Its more abouting respecting others opinions even if you disagree with them and a majority of the children on this forum still do not know how to do that and therfore need to be put in there place.

I believe that the juice on favorites losing is a good amount of money for most bookies to survive I also think that juice is definitely manipulated towards public perception as for fixes yes I do believe those happen not all the time and maybe not even once a year but yes they do happen we are all human and greed is what drives most of our motives.....everyone has a price

mafioso, do you REALLY think you're the only one who's questioning the integrity of the league after losing a bet over a series of questionable calls that went against you? You're acting like you're the first person to put up a post asking if the games are fixed.
I never said it was fixed. I never said it wasn't. We'll never know. All I know is I would drop my whole NFL bankroll on the fact that you wouldn't be writing about whether or not the game is fixed if you were on the winning side of a fixed game....

And that my friend is where you are completely wrong.
I lashed out when I saw the one douchebag tell a poster to fuck off and he said games arent fixed with the same vindication and courage that his mother was a virgin when his dad first got with her.
I mean he was that sure and Im on the other side as you can, completely on the other side, I will argue with anyone and set them straight with facts when they make fun of, or mock those of us who believe something other than what they do.
None of the games I bet today were fishy I went 2-1 ATS and lost about 3 units as the one loss was a big one between Cincy and Miami going over the total of 44.5 and as you saw the game went under, the only questionable call there was made by Marvin Lewis attempting a field goal with 3 minutes left down by 4 But Im not crying fix there, its marvin lewis and he was is and always will be a complete moron.

Please help me to become a smarter investor. Do you have anything valuable to add here? How do you figure out what games are fixed and to lay off them? Please start a thread every week and let us know.
Don't act like an idiot. If he know which game is fixed, everybody would know it too.

Don't your see all those nba game when they keep foul with minute to go down by double digit to make game to go over? So many times they foul for no reason with game decided already. So a 85 percent foul shooter all of sudden miss both ft. Shit is fixed.

That Monday night game, packers clearly won the game. They blame replacement official , how do we know that shit is fixed with all that questionable calls in the last drive. They know they ain't gonna work long, so maybe they want some quick money.

I was in Vegas at the Bellagio sportsbook for that monday night game, I had a bet on the Under and a parlay with the Under to Yankees ML to the Tigers and Whitesox I hit everything, the reason I didnt touch the packers is the line was fishy, (Possible fixed game) I just didnt have the stones to add Seattle to my parlay, I wish I had.
As for the Jets game, Its a no bet for me Im not a degenerate that has to play every game.

I believe 100% that there is some sort of fix, especially in the most popular games. How many times have we seen two teams that have the best offenses and the worst defenses in the league come out flat, then score 3 quick TD's, then milk some more clock and then miss a chip-in field goal that either costs the Over or the team the game.
Anyone remember John Carney? That scumbag missed a PAT after the Saints scored with no time left on a bunch of laterals to bring the game within 1 (2003).
Collin Kaepernick is one of the biggest scumbag cocksuckers. I've known him since he started playing for Nevada. His 2 fumbles in the endzone against Texas Tech in 2008 cost me a $12K parlay payout. They missed the over by half a point.
There is definitely fixes going on in football. But we don't want to believe it. How else can we gather and party together during a world wide event as the Super Bowl. Even if you don't care about the teams or the game you'd still enjoy something that's on such a big stage. Like the US Presidential Debate.

Did you know that they opened betting lines for this years wrestlemania, i'm a wrestling fan but in no way was i betting on a scripted entertainment show. I believe the game to be fixed, without a doubt, if a mafia gang can fix European Soccer matches, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Italian_football_scandal), case in point the italian football scandal, then the NFL can definately be fixed, what we've seen so far this year is out the ordinary, and there has definately been money on the fishy side of these calls, but it's a moot point complaining about it, Men are greedy people and the fix will always be in.

2.Remeber how I throw you in fixed games from time to time over few months now - NONE LOST (Recent one yesterday Under 50.5 Atl@Wash).
3.Some of the greatest cappers who are or were here are taking it as a part of the capping equation that the League Managements who run teams, refs and everything around it for co owners of all the teams - can tell their employees to do what ever they think is necessarry for the good of the league financially.
4. Sports gambling is a vital part of that business operation uniting between the entertainment and the gambling in order to increase the markets and thus it is in leagues' interest to keep Vegas alive. The only way to do it is not killing Vegas.
