No sugarcoating the fact I was absolutely terrible this year. I thought it was going to be a big year, went 10-4 in preseason and 6-3 on win totals but my god was I bad in the regular season, not just my first losing NFL season posting on this website but I was HAMMERED. I'll have to go add it up but guess I was at least 20 games under on posted plays. I should probably be staying away but it's the playoffs so what the hell. As I said down the stretch: I encourage fading. I'm free money!
Denver +9 (-115)
I think we have a classic case of “Play on” vs “Play Against” elements here. Most pundits and casual fans will look at this game after seeing the past couple of weeks and will wonder how the hell do the Broncos have a chance. I think those people are missing the other side of the equation and the fact that the Steelers stink.
I realize the Steelers have all the numbers and experience but I am not impressed with this team one bit. They were money burners this season as they were overrated from Week 1. On the road they were absolutely terrible going 2-6 ATS and winning one road game all year but more than 7 points and that was by 12 against a Zona team that started 1-6. Pittsburgh has averaged 15.6 points on the road this year and scored more than 13 points just three times in eight road games. Ben has also been terrible on the road going for 7.46 YPA, 7 TD, 10 INT with a 77.6 QB rating, he’s also been dumped 25 times on the road. When you compare those numbers to Tebow at 6.40 YPA, 12 TD, 6 INT and a 72.9 QB rating you can see in this particular setting there isn’t a huge difference. I don’t make too much of Mendenhall being out but it probably will have an effect playing an unproven backup. Pittsburgh’s o-line is once again very shaky and in one of the loudest stadiums in the league I think they could be a liability especially with a banged up Roethlisberger who is basically playing on one leg. This should help mitigate Pittsburgh’s vertical passing game which is the only thing they do well offensively.
The numbers will show that Pittsburgh still has a top notch defense but I beg to differ. If you dig deeper you will see this unit is nowhere near as good as they have traditionally been especially upfront. Pittsburgh gave up 4.0 yards per rush this year which is unheard of for them. They were 19th in 3rd down defense, 28th in negative pass plays, and 19th in the defensive hog index after finishing 1st last season. They also fell from 1st to 17th in sacks. You can argue injuries played a part but they will play a part here too. Woodley has played about 15 snaps in the past 7 weeks and is nowhere near 100% with a bad hammy. The thin air and low oxygen will not be good for him here. Clark is also out and it will be a big loss, he has played 99% of the defensive snaps this year and when Polamalu is crowding the line I expect Denver to take some shots. I also think Denver can wear down this defensive front and the thin air may actually play a role. Most of these guys up front are in their 30’s and if the Broncos pound away they could run out of gas.
Situationally it is a nice spot for Denver. No one thinks they have a chance. This team was very good as a dog. The last two weeks they were favored and the pressure was on but this is a completely different situation. This is very similar to the Saints/Seahawks game last year where a very overrated favorite came in and was expected to trounce a bad team. However the Saints were exposed and the Seahawks played carefree and with nothing to lose. Brian Dawkins reportedly gave this team a rousing speech on Monday. I saw the presser today and Tebow was exuding energy. John Elway on how the Broncos played tight the last two weeks with so much on the line: “That’s human nature, especially when you’re young, to become more cautious.” Not anywhere close to the same situation this time. Elway on Tebow: “He’s obviously upset with last week. He’s already got an edge to him, so he’s ready to go. I like seeing the edge. Oh, yeah. I actually love it. I have full confidence he’ll bounce back and have a good week.” This is the NFL where anybody can beat anybody. Just when a team looks like they have no chance they usually come motivated and play with nothing to lose and get overlooked by the favorite. This Pittsburgh team is garbage. If they survive this week they will get slaughtered by the Ravens or Patriots next week.
I like the card a fair bit. Will post other plays when I find time to throw down some thoughts.

Glad to see you posting Andy. Good luck with your play. I totally disagree. Von Miller used to be the engine of that defense but he hasn't been the same since the injury and the rook has worn down from the long season. If you think KC had Tebow confused wait til Dick Lebeau schemes on Tebow.. Do you have any idea how Terrible the Denver receivers are ? Possibly the worst group in the NFL.Pitt will score early and quick. Wallace and Brown will make the big plays , those guys will score touchdowns. You're a few weeks to late for the Tebow ship. It hit an ice berg 3 weeks ago. The ship be sinking.

Very harsh words from a capper I typically respect. If they cost you money during the season then I'm sorry for your losses but to 'play against' them in the post season as a form of trying to recoup what they took from you, well that just isn't smart. I know you didn't state that but that's how it reads. I'm not saying you have a loser here but this Steelers team is accustomed to playing road playoff games, this is not new for them. Who this is very new for is Tim Tebow and the often talked about Denver defense. If the Steelers are "garbage" what does that make the Broncos?
Good luck, 99.

Fadeonly- fade Andy and cash in buddy. He seems to forget that Pitt destroyed the Patriots and shut that offense down yet he thinks Tebow who completes any where from 5-8 passes per game is going to come out and bring it Many ppl who are on Denver took Pitt vs SF a few weeks ago so they're upset. Final score 28-7

Good point about Von Miller. I'm not so sure it was the rookie wall but he has struggled and was actually benched last week for poor play. He's struggled to get off blocks playing with a cast on his hand. I think the benching was a wake up call and he'll play well this week.
Wallace and Brown definitely a big concern but Brown has not scored a TD on the road all season and Wallace has disappeared. He has not scored since Week 13, has not caught more than 6 passes since Week 8, and hasn't had more than 82 yards in a game since Week 7.

Maybe the words are a bit harsh but I really don't think much of this group. Pittsburgh was one of the few teams I actually had a good read on this season. I faded them against the Ravens and Texans and bet on them against the Seahawks and Patriots (though I did tease them in the Pats game in a teaser which ultimately lost). Perhaps I should have said "highly overrated' instead.
I'm not sure Pittsburgh is accustomed to playing road playoff games though, they haven't played one in 6 years. Always tough backing a rookie QB in a playoff game but I think it's a big help that he really has no pressure on him here, most are expecting him to take a big dump.
GL. Though if you are on Pittsburgh you won't need it with the way I've been this year.

I've been encouraging people to fade me in the NFL for weeks. I hope more do the same this week they will probably cash in.
That Patriots game was the lone win I was impressed with from the Steelers this year although that was a major statement game for them and I said it at the time. I foolishly teased them instead of just taking the points & ML. I think we saw the real Steelers the very next week when Joe Flacco marched it right down their throats for a 92 yard GW TD drive in the 4th quarter at home on SNF. Big red flag for me there.
The thing you're forgetting is Denver doesn't even have to put up 20+ points. Pittsburgh has scored more than 13 points just three times on the road all year. Now they are being asked to win by double digits on the road in a playoff game? I don't buy it. If Denver gets 10 points the Steelers need 20 to cover. Can they get 20? Baltimore will manhandle this team and something tells me the Patriots are going to make a statement against whoever they play next week. If Pittsburgh goes there it will also be a big revenge game and Belichick is lights out in those spots.

Wooooo Andy is back! And with a bang! Love the play buddy, great writeup. I will be on the Broncs ML also.
My favorite play of the week is the Falcons +3 and ML though...any thoughts on that game?
And leans for the other 2 also?
Great to see u back again...let's hope for a big playoff run!
Good to see you buddy.
When the matchups were first set I loved the Falcons. But the more I look at this game the more I think my money will be on the Giants despite their inconsistencies. They are a much different team when healthy, just waiting to see if Ballard is good to go. This team is battle tested too and I love that this time of year. They could have quit on numerous occasions this year but battled their way back and showed tremendous fight against a monster schedule. I haven't really looked hard at the other two games yet but I am leaning Houston.

Fair enough...I had a long talk with MTBaker about the Falcons game...and we both agreed it was one of our biggest plays of the year. Check his writeup and see what you think.
Also, will you be playing the Broncos ML also? I think there's great value there and if it's a tight game, I think "Tebow magic" will pull it out at the end.
Any teams that stick out to you as going all the way? Like the Packers last year? I hope my Pats win it but I think they lose a close one to the Ravens in the Conference Finals...I think their D steps up in the playoffs but something just seems a bit off with them this year with all their slow starts and come from behind wins. In the NFC, of course there's the Saints...but everyone and their moms is lining up to bet them and even beat the Packers. I have a hard time seeing them winning back to back road games in SF and then GB. I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers went to the Bowl again.

Holy shit bro. Missed your post before I made mine. You are reading my mind brother. One of the best writeups I've seen all year. Everything I wanted to add later you already said and stated perfectly. Well done my friend

Holy shit bro. Missed your post before I made mine. You are reading my mind brother. One of the best writeups I've seen all year. Everything I wanted to add later you already said and stated perfectly. Well done my friend
keep your chin up, this was my worst year in the nfl as well. not like that will make you feel any better. you have your rsi/ pick history up for the world to see. i don't care how bad your year was, i have respect for that. i'm not 100% on your pick, but i wouldn't call you crazy for taking denver at 9. steelers are banged up, they just wanna win and go home. bol 2 ya man.

You could say the exact same thing about the Steelers but you obviously dug deeper into and found a better play on the game.

It's been a nice year for the Bengals but I think this team overachieved. They did finish with a winning record but they were just +3 in yards per game and were actually even in net yards per play. The schedule did get tougher down the stretch but this team seemed to hit a bit of a wall as they covered just one spread in their final eight games. Their run defense has also been leaking oil. They lost defenisve tackle Pat Sims for the final five games of the year and since then they have given up 131 rushing yards per game at 4.85 per clip. Andy Dalton has had a very impressive rookie season but he's faced 6 top level defenses this year (PIT twice, BAL twice, HOU, and SF) and in those games he's completed 51.7% of his passes for 6.17 YPA with 5 TD, 7 INT and a 64.8 QB rating.
The Texans obviously finished horribly although losing Wade Phillips for a couple of games coupled with clinching the division and maybe losing a little spark certainly played a part. I have no argument for the Texans schedule as they really didn't play too many tough teams. It could be said though that this Bengals team in their current state in a road playoff game isn't really a dominate team either. Yates is a concern although this isn't a game where he'll be asked to throw a lot as it is unlikely the Bengals jump out to a big lead, they just aren't that type of team. The Texans run game is dominate and they have a great defense going against a rookie QB who has struggled against these types of defenses. On paper I think it is a very nice matchup for the Texans and that seemed to play itself out when these teams played a few weeks ago. Houston did need to come from behind to win that game but they were +9 in 1st downs, +137 in yards, +3.30 minutes TOP, and still won despite being -2 in turnovers.
I also like the spot for Houston. This team has waited forever for a home playoff game and I expect this crowd to be absolutely nuts and the Texans to be exceptionally fired up. This could cause problems for a young Bengals offense especially because the Texans pass rush which is very good may feed off the crowd.

^^^^^ I forgot to add that the Texans have been very resilient all season. They have lost just about every important player for stretches this year (and in some cases the whole year) but they have called on the next man up and have responded well. I know it could be argued that they could be deflated after losing three straight and really looking like they have no shot to win the Super Bowl but I think they step up and respond after three straight defeats and give the city it's first playoff win in a very long time.

Pitt O is a disaster so taking the points is the wise move. Pitt O has avg 13 pts per last 4. If Ben plays the whole game its an easy cover. I honestly think a healthy Batch is a better option for Pitt. i think the under is an even better play. Like Hou also GL
