Just a little insight here everyone. Whether you like what I am saying or not it is food for thought when betting on the NFL.
Question to consider:
*What exactly are you betting on in any given game?*
When you evaluate and are trying to decide on who to take you have to first ask yourself what exactly are you betting on. Are you betting on a certain teams defense? Are you betting on a certain team's superstar? Or are you betting on some sort of home field advantage?
Let's use an example from this past weekend:
Redskins vs. Eagles
Redskins won this game on some last minute heroics by Kirk Cousins and Pierre Garcon. But is that really the story of this game? No. The real story of this game and the reason I took the Redskins was this.
Redskins defense has looked good this year plain and simple. They are the Kirk Cousin led offense...yea we get it, BUT what have the Eagles done this year to show me they are capable of putting up enough points against a good defense to win any game?!
Yes they beat the Jets but I took the Eagles to win that game because of the EAGLES defense, not their offense. This game had Redskins written all over it. Why would you bet on the Eagles offense to walk all over the Redskins defense when the Eagles have shown they can't do that?
Take my opinions here for what they are...opinions. But tonight is another perfect example. With the Lions vs the Seahawks, the bet for me is that the Lions' offense can not score and keep Stafford upright vs arguably the best defense in the NFL. What have the Lions shown us so far this year? They have shown us that their offense stinks. Combine that with the level of play Seattle's defense is playing at....

Of all the people on Covers that express their opinion on games, YOU make the most sense. You break your thoughts down and explain step by step why your more inclined to pick this team or that team.
Thanks for taking the time and patience to let me know what your thinking.
I don't just tail someone, and come back and b i t ch about it losing or hype it up if it wins. I read A LOT of cappers in here, and use their logic along with my own skills to make my final pick.
Your point of view has me now adding you to the 3, now 4 people that I most respect reading.
Thanks!

Appreciate the compliments Cooler. Since I started this board I have actually gotten just as much enjoyment from helping everyone make decisions, as I have from winning this year. I completely agree with your sentiments on making the decisions yourself once taking in enough information to feel confident, comfortable, and happy with your choice win or lose. THAT is the name of the game and is how you prevent yourself from going thousands in the hole.

For tonight's game we have the Seahawks at home vs the Lions.
If you have been following me I think you can probably already guess which way I am headed here. Like I said in an earlier post I don't always love betting big home favorites unless they are one of those teams I love (Patriots, Packers, Seahawks)
With that being said I can see the Lions hanging in there but I am pretty confident the Seahawks are going to ROMP the lions. The lions have ZERO weapons that the Seahawks should be afraid of. Megatron is not the same as he was in years past. Golden Tate should not have any success against the Seahawk secondary. Matt Stafford has been getting DEMOLISHED by mediocre front lines because the Lions offensive line is incapable of blocking. We have turnovers on the way with the Seahawks benefiting from all of them. The 13th man will be in attendance and loud as ever.
Whether the Lions somehow Miraculously cover or not, the only way I would ever bet this game would be the Seahawks -9.5 and predicting a 27-6 point victory for the Seahawks with the Lions scoring on some fluke play or broken coverage and then missing the extra point.
BOL All!
Great forum, I appreciate the insight and breakdown. With your breakdown for tonight's MNF, Are you taking Seattle and the under? I appreciate your feedback and look forward to next week's break down

I stay away from the over/under for the most part. There are a couple reasons for this, but the most important one for me is the overwhelming trend in football of teams throwing the ball so much more and an emphasis on getting more offensive plays in. On any given night a team could put up 21 points in a game and get completely dominated by the other team's defense. If the Lions put up 21 points in garbage time and the over hit that would not be a good bet in my opinion. With that being said, I would say the under is the play here, but if Stafford throws 2 pick 6's tonight then does that change the dynamic? I don't know.
I will be taking Seattle tonight -9.5

Guys, I am reading a lot of the posts popping up here calling for the Lions to beat the Seahawks tonight...Please, I implore you. Be careful with who you trust and what you are reading on this site. Don't put your life savings or your whole bankroll on the Lions. If they won tonight it would be a complete and utter miracle.
