Thanks everyone for the comments. Had a great time posting this season with you all.. I think the NFC and AFC Championships took a lot of steam out of the Super Bowl yesterday.
It was going to be really hard to top either of those games with their quality of play and each going into OT. If the Chiefs hadn't lined up offside on Brady's INT late in the 4th Qtr and if the refs had thrown the flag on the Rams against the Saints, it would've been a totally different production obviously.
However, the defensive performances in the Super Bowl were excellent but that doesn't tend to make headlines and sell as entertainment these days. The Chiefs and Rams are well prepared for the future but the Patriots will always be a threat as long as Brady and Belichick are around.

Gougie, is this your first year handicapping NFL? Dont see any posts from the year before? Do you use a system or just apply your knowledge?
No, I've been doing the NFL for over 30 years now. I just didn't post my picks until this season. And no systems, just situational capping.
I had only posted College Football and basketball (NBA and College) prior to this.
I might start posting basketball again next season but was too busy this season to do that daily. It gets to be a lot of work to stay on top of all of those.

gougie.. Any opinions on the AAF games for opening weekend?
Hardly any info out there thus far but was just curious about your thoughts if you have any?
I'll just be watching for now. Each team only played 1 preseason game so you're right there's not much to go on outside of analyzing the rosters and coaching staffs.
I'll be looking for how these teams look in the trenches first and foremost. My guess is that DL's will probably be ahead of OL's very early on. The rules against 5+ man blitzes could neutralize some of that however. Either way though, QB play will be even more crucial: who can improvise and keep plays alive while making good decisions with the ball, that sort of thing. Next to look at will be running games.
There's some good blogs by different writers on The Action Network's site if you click around through their AAF section:
There will also be a 30 min pre-game show on CBS before today's kickoffs which could have some nuggets of info.
This is a whole new can of worms and there's much to learn. I'm open to betting it if good opportunities arise but it'll probably take a few games by each team for me to get comfortable with player personnel and coaching schemes.
The league and rules are obviously geared towards speed and increasing the number of plays compared to the NFL, so that should lead to more scoring in theory but let's see how it plays out. I do hope the league is successful and most of that will depend on the overall quality of play and how quickly these teams can improve throughout the season.
