The one thing that is really pissing me off about the BUF/KC game. I’ve seen this in multiple games this season.
4th and one for Buffalo, Josh Allen qb sneaks. He’s obviously very close to the line to gain. So close that one official is calling it a first down and the other is marking him inches short.
The original spot for the ball, I thought was perfect. On the tv broadcast the nose of the football was just hanging over the orange first down line. I know that line is not official, but I’ll tell you it’s usually pretty damn accurate. Now this is a huge play and it goes to automatic booth review which is excellent. After they come back from commercial they say the ruling on the field stands and the runner was short of the line to gain.
No measurement, no explanation, nothing. Anyone who knows the play that I’m talking about knows this- Josh Allen never went down to the ground. The ball was never anywhere near the ground. So how could you possibly know where to spot the ball in relation to the field (ground) without placing it on the ground and taking a measurement?

He didn’t get the first down. Easy to tell he was short.
Try to be objective. I understand you probably bet on KC and immediately yelled at your tv “he didn’t get it!”. You probably won your $20 parlay and I’m very happy for you.
Now read my post again and please don’t reply again unless you have an answer or an argument to bring to the table. This is not about who won or lost their bet. It’s an actual question about what the process is in this situation. Was anybody at the game that saw a measurement take place during commercial?

Short lol! One ref marked first down the other marked short he came from the KC sideline that marked it short. The ball got to the line. That call changed the game. The Bills go score there and it’s a different outcome. The call was atrocious and they Bills got screwed. Bills fans must be sick. Saying that thou the Bills should have just gave the ball to Cook he was getting 5 yards a carry no problem.

I am in agreement with you, but again I try to remain objective to the situation. I’m certain that there are thousands of viewers that would like to hear an explanation of the process. Explain to the viewers where the line to gain is, spot the ball based on the video replay, and measure. Isn’t this the sole purpose of the chains?

I cashed in huge with the Eagles and the alternate spread -14.5.
Not a fan of the Chiefs or Bills and had no money on either team.
As an observer of the game I can say it was without a doubt the shadiest call of the day.
The ball was touching the line like the previous poster said.
But they immediately went to commercial break during the "review", making sure the public never saw the truth.
Throughout the season the Refs have given the Chiefs every push imaginable, from "ghost" calls to bad calls and everything in-between, all at the perfect time Chiefs needed it most.
The league and refs don't even hide it anymore.
Their starving desire for the big "3-peat" storyline will ultimately cost them in the long run as many fans and bettors are getting fed up.

And the catch that hit the ground, run a play then challenge to still get to wrong and the INCHES!! A different way this gm for the referee to change the outcome , use more assist replay , 1 less commercial, more proper calls for the Betting Public and we would not be doing this gm in gm out
ride hard ,live life to the Max!!!!!!!!!

I agree. It was a very risky decision to run the qb sneak again. But your point about the ref seeing only Josh Allen’s back is the one who marks him short, where as the ref who could actually see the ball marked him for a first down. This alone is very upsetting to the fans who want to see the call made properly.

While I agree with you. When was the last thing a measurement was taken? That is no longer the norm now.
Rather then blame officiating for such a close call. I rather blame the play calling.
Too many times they just kept QB sneak to one side. KC kept jumping the ball EVERY TIME. They only vary the count once. Every QB sneak was horrible to watch and most barely got there. Josh barely used his legs the first half. Chiefs barely lose with a lead going into the half.
Last chance. Bills were down 3. Plenty of time to march down the field. Josh scramble ONCE. COOK saw ZERO attempts. For a team who identity is to run the ball. They completely ignore it.

We went thru this crap back in the winning Brady days and I could take you back even further but will spare you.It is called a team winning too much and it happens in school sports too.I have been accused of favoritism as a ref or umpire,we are trained to ignore, not easy. The NFL umpires are human and not always 100% right but NO WAY are they making calls "BECAUSE" The NFL is not fixed Do you realize how many people would have to keep their mouths shut? I'm sure some of you are convinced but then people were convinced many years ago the earth was flat and we never landed on the moon Can't fix stupid

Hell, the Bills had the first down on the THIRD down play! Shouldn't have needed the fourth down conversion, but they got it then too! Fucking zebras oughta be wearing red and yellow striped shirts, and they need to put a dress on Mahomes!

I’m in 100% agreement. I thought the offensive play calling was poor for much of the 4th quarter and that kc did exactly what they had to do to win. You bring up a good point about the measuring and how we see it less. But the question is why do we see it sometimes and not on a play like that? This is a pretty important call in one of the most important games of the entire season.

its becuz they wasted too much tv game time showing swift blowing kelce so they didn't have the time to measure with another tv timeout to bring the chains in
theres your answer save your tear towel for next year you will need it when it happens again
im not dumb i just act stupid to blend in with of the rest of you idiots

This is not a conspiracy theory thread, a rigged game thread, or a sore loser thread. I’m just pointing out that the officials left something to be severely scrutinized by not showing the fans how they came to this conclusion. If in fact the line to gain was much different than the digital line that the tv viewers saw, then show us that. On the contrary, if the ball is spotted two inches short (and it was undeniably very close) and they measure to show us, then everyone forgets about it and says it is what it is. The video replay was absolutely necessary in this instance, but how do we know that the video replay is being used correctly when the ball is not measured for?
Again I’ll say once more- this was not an instance of elbow down or knee down. There was no view of the ball in relation to the ground or the line to gain. In this situation, the ball must be spotted and measured for accuracy and in fairness to the players, coaches, and fans.
Hats off to Spagnuolo for dialing up the pressure and winning the game with his defense. The guy is incredibly gifted at what he does and deserves all of the accolades. This is how good coaches become repeat champions and they deserve it.

Yeah I think I even heard the former official in the booth say that he thought the ball was over the line by 1/3 length of the ball. But to your point…I was wondering the same thing…no measurement?? Huh????

This is getting old, everyone blaming the refs when KC wins. Seems people can't wrap their heads around that KC has a real good team. Buffalo didn't need to run a QB sneak and make it as close as it was. Blame Buffalo's offensive line for not getting a bigger push on that sneak.
