So far 5- out of 4 people were taking dirty birds ML .... small sample but still I was surprised
I thought we would have tons of patriots love
People just don't like Brady and Patriots for some reason
4 out of 5 you mean?
Wait until the weekenders fly in. Strip + books will be overwhelmed by Patriot love in my opinion. I don't see money just continuing to pour in on Atlanta like it's Mrs. Butterworth's Gone Wild...

"The Falcon D is crazy fast. The rush off the ends and MLB play will be the best NE may have seen all year. The ATL secondary can be had because they play so physical.....tons of PI calls.....in which could loom huge in this game."
"I dont think there is a faster D in all the NFL. The game vs Pitt is a terrible match-up. Pitt plays strictly zone D. They dont blitz alot. Plays right into a team like NE hands. ATL plays D different. They take more risk."
"I am pretty sure the Falcon O is a big mismatch vs the NE D. NE has a very large and physical front 7. Not super fast but strong. They hold the point of contact at the LOS very well. If they dont get pressure on Ryan he will pick them apart....in which the same can be said with Brady. The biggest mismatch on the field will be the ATL rushing attack vs a very physical but slower front 7. Freeman and Coleman are quick and legit. Complete different running styles that what teams like the Steelers have."
"Both teams are hot. ATL the last 6-8 games is totally different than what they were early on. I cant believe folks are not talking about missing Gronk."

The whole "sharps" and "squares" thing is nonsense- There is no such thing as a really intelligent gambler, because if they were really intelligent they probably wouldn't be gambling. They'd be studying something else besides stats and trying to guess outcomes of random and manipulated sporting events..
I have to laugh when someone describes themselves as a sharp gambler, it's like saying you're a good time and money waster because you don't waste it as fast as others do. I don't know how many times I see a game and think Team A is going to win easily, then I study the game for 5 hours breaking down every aspect of it, and bet on team B, then team A wins easily.
Lets not label people here

I give Titan props here for hopefully ending this stupid thread or at least putting it in a proper perspective.
Laying 10%, 7% or even 5% at a reduced vig shop is nothing short of a HORRIBLE investment for your money. You can call it sharp or square or whatever other term you have for it, but if you are really concerned about making money then sports betting is certainly not the place for 99.9% of the population. I suppose there are 10 out of 1000 people that can make money at it due to statistical improbabilities, but everyone else is losing in the long run.
I am a lifelong investor in the markets as well as a lifelong recreational gambler. If the market has a meaningful correction beyond today, I might invest another 20k, 30k or even 50k in the stock market because I have the liquid cash to do so. However, come Sunday, I will have a meager $200 on the Super Bowl because any side you pick is going to be -EV after the juice (the entertainment fee).
You can argue you have a lock, but you still have -EV.
Gamble for entertainment, invest for wealth!

I'd agree that there isn't much of an edge to this game either way you go. The line was set basically spot on in LV and it has barely moved at all over the course of a week.
I would strongly disagree with those that think there aren't squares and sharps though. There are bettors that consistently bet value and stick to strict bankroll management. There are bettors that make decent profit... sure, it's definitely not the majority but they absolutely do exist. And if they've got big money, you can be assured that they are, more often than not, the ones that will dictate the first and/or last line action.

I agree with most of what you say (desertspade) with respect to there being smarter gamblers (sharp) and dumber gamblers (squares), but within the context of the OP's post, I would say 99/100 of his "friends" are lifelong losers because of the negative EV inherent in every bet made.
We throw around the term "sharps" like these guys are year in and year out consistent winners. In my lifetime, I have had a ton of gambling friends, yet I have not had any friends that would fall into that .1% category. They are all lifetime losers.
The prospect of making money in gambling (as a means of lifelong income) is indeed hopeless and full of broken dreams and empty pockets.

In horse racing maybe, but not in sports betting- Betting horses requires being able to understand a racing form, but nobody makes a living betting horses either-
A small bet makes these ballgames watchable, but don't ever think you're doing something smart when you bet them. Its entertainment
