If the Texans want to turn the corner and be a competitor they probably need to win this game.  It is at home and there tends to be a hangover for the SB losers.  It also seems WAY too easy to take the Colts. 

dont overthink this---- ask yourself this question-- after the colts went 14-2 --do you think they will lose this game??????     colts win this                      

What does Colts going 14-2 have to do with this game?  Last year is last year.  After the Raiders lost in the Super Bowl would you have called a 4-12 year the following year?

not just 14-2, but 14-0 before resting starters.

uhhh, the Colts have won at least 12 games for SEVEN straight years.  this fact cannot be compared to any Raiders team.  And they are what? 15-1 vs the Texans?  Jeff Saturday's possible absence is the only reason to not take the Colts.  Could be enough to mess up communication for fast moving offense.  Game is very close recently...let's find other games that don't figure to be so close to wager our precious $$ on..

So let me get this straight...since the colts have won 12 games or more 7 straight years they can't lose a week 1 game?  Yeah seems logical...sorry my bad, I apologize for even thinking the Texans have a shot at home.

Ah, so I guess I lost my bet when I bet against him in the Super Bowl since I bet against your betting rule.

I think the texans win this game because they should have beaten the colts last year but blew a near 20 pt lead but why bet against the COLTS?  Thats what I asked myself when I thought about the Texans.  better bets out there.

Im a huge Texans fan, I followed this team last year carefully and they have a amazing potential but somehow they couldnt finish the games; They normally overplayed the colts but lost at the end, Im confident that in week #1 is the easiest time when you can defeat the colts and Manning, I understand the people that said that you cant bet vs Manning and that the colts are 15-1 vs the texans because is a true fact, but I also understand wildcats08 because I think exactly the same, Houston will win this game, they have a better defense this year and a better offense in my opinion we all will see tomorroww

Houston has come very close to knocking off the Colts in recent years, losing by an average of just 5 points in 4 games the last two seasons. This could be the game in which the Texans get over the hump. Houston has an offense that has was 0.9 yards per play better than average in 2008 and 0.6 yppl better than average last season, and the Texans should have a better than average defensive team even without suspended star LB Brian Cushing. I expect a better rushing attack from Houston this season after averaging a pathetic 3.7 ypr in 2009 (against teams that would allow 4.4 ypr to an average team). The offensive line was decent, but Steve Slaton danced around too much behind the backfield and didn’t come up with enough big plays to balance out his losses. Coach Gary Kubiak is turning to second year pro Arian Foster (4.8 ypr last year) to get the ground game back to mediocrity and Foster looked good in the preseason (6.0 ypr). I still expect a below average rushing attack, but quarterback Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson lead a potent pass attack that has been 1.3 yards per pass play better than average in each of the last two seasons. Houston is very good offensively and solid on defense and special teams and this could be the year that they take down the Colts.

The Colts are still the Colts, however, and Peyton Manning leads an attack that I rate at 0.9 yppl better than average (Houston’s offense is +0.7 yppl) and Indy’s defense is also solid. Last year the Colts were 0.3 yppl better than average defensively and I rate that unit at 0.5 yppl better than average this season. Overall, my ratings favor Houston by 1 ½ points in this game and losing the Super Bowl usually leads to a negative hangover early in the next season. In fact, Super Bowl losers are just 10-26 ATS in the month of September since 1998 and they’re 0-10 ATS in game 1 since 2000. The only negative is that the Colts have historically found ways to win competitively priced games, going 21-8 ATS when the spread is between +4 and -4 points. I’ll still lean with the Texans to end the Colts’ domination of this series.
