I use a similar system, but I also try to acct for how many points the defenses give up.
Basically I just use the last 5 weeks and since gilbert91016 asked about Ind/Jags game I will use that game as my example.
In the last 5 weeks the Colts scores have been:
33-27 vs Texans 23-20 vs Chargers 10-6 vs Browns 35-3 vs Bengals 31-21 vs Lions.
so the first thing I do is add up the points the colts scored and came up with 132 points. Now I divide by 5 since this was over the last 5 games and came up with 26.4 points per game.
I then add up how many points the defense gave up and came up with 77 points. After dividing it by 5 I realized the defense was giving up 15.4 points per game.
I do the same thing with the Jags.
14-24 vs Titans 12-30 vs Vikings 17-30 vs Texans 10-23 vs Bears 20-16 vs Packers
Again I added the points for and came up with 73. Divide that by 5 and I got 14.6.
For Jags defense I came up with 123. Divide that by 5 and I got 24.6.
I then took the avg points the colts scored and added them to the avg points the jags scored. (26.4 for colts and 14.6 for the Jags and came up with 40.)
I did the same thing with the defenses. (The colts gave the opponents 15.4 points and the Jags gave up 24.6. After adding these numbers I came up with 41).
I then look at the line that my sportsbook is giving me and in this case is the over is 39 or lower I will play that. If the under is 42 or higher I will play the under.
The line that my sportsbook has is over/under 44. So in this case I would play the under.
Granted this isn't a perfect system, but I didn't do poorly last week.
On my posted plays I went 5-2 and am up 2.1 units. Granted this was my first week trying this so please take it with a huge grain of salt and know I could have just gotten very lucky.
If you have questions (as I know this post is kinda long and rambling) feel free to ask me either here or on my threads and I will try to help out. Also I don't consider myself a capper so my advice is continue with your system and just see if my numbers might help you improve your odds.

I think last week showed that there is no real system for o/u and the streak that eddy was on was just plain dumb luck! You can't emphasize on points from prior 5-7 weeks because there is so much parity in the league and teams don't play each other 4 or 5 times during the coarse of the year to really find out how they play each other. Eddy thought he was onto something, and it worked for a while but the system is not dependable. At least not to wager any considerate amount of coin.

bah gilbert. It wasn't my system. I just am trying to figure a way to acct for defenses. I still don't know how to figure home/road games and how that affects teams, but figure this gives me a starting place and I will try to hone the skills
