People need to provide their reasons behind their selections

Question

I read a lot of the posts on the forum, but I am a strong believer that unless you can back up your opinion on a game with your reasons and or facts, the selection loses credibility. Anyone can just state that they like a team plus the points or minus the points. But to gain credibility on a pick, you need to back it up with your "proof". That is what made Leaguecapper a very good handicapper in whatever sport he handicapped. Just something for people to contemplate before throwing a pick on the board. Providing these bits of info also leads to discussons of those points and provides more insight into how the game may play out. Good luck to all the cappers and enjoy the games !!

totally up to the user, not mandatory. i personally like to provide writeups whenever i can but i dont think it makes it any less credible than the pick that doesnt have a writeup and i'd certainly not going to comply with someone that demands it. if you dont like how the messageboard is going in that direction then do something about it. have a writeup of your own instead of complaining.

When I first started here, I posted picks with an opinion as to why I liked a selection.I soon realized that it wasn&#x27;t worth my effort to explain my position when the Covers cockroaches would come in and nitpick every word if it didn&#x27;t match their agenda.I still enjoy doing it on occasion but I sure don&#x27;t feel the need to, so that some dope will want to argue one line in a post.Credibility comes with picking winners, everything else is just fluff

I use to do writeups, pushups,  situps, pullups  but quit all of that after ref threw the holding flag and cost me 20.75 cents 5 years ago on a bullshit holding call.

&#xA;Pretty much spot on. Some people write essays here on why a team will win, with zero substance. Anyone who can write a persuasive argument at an average level can make an argument. What I do look for and appreciate are numbers and data. The numbers can speak for themselves, just like a posters reputation or win/loss record can speak for themselves. Mostly, I don&#x2019;t have time or the desire to post all of the reasons I like a side. I think San Francisco will score at least 8 more points more than Green Bay Sunday night. Is that enough?

Personally, I need a writeup of some sort. Otherwise, I might as well flip a coin as you often have good cappers posting plays that are in conflict! They all have good reps or good records, so who do you choose? Flip a coin, I guess.

I might add that the reason many do not state their reasons for a bet is because they have no reasons. They bet on hunches or feelings.

But I feel like a little something always helps to know why you are on a certain play. Sometimes it&#x27;s just a numbers game. That being said, a good track record trumps all write-ups, once you show a large enough sample size on profitability at least.  Of course here, if you go 7-1 in a night with zero insight into your picks, people don&#x27;t care and will murder to see your next plays. Everyone wants a quick and easy buck, but without knowing WHY a person is winning, it&#x27;s IMPOSSIBLE to know if they will continue to do so.

You could formulate a very good position on either side of any game. The key is understanding which positions are valuable, and which are not. That only requires a pick, not a writeup. A writeup is just a narrative. People with better persuasive and writing skills can make a much better essay on why their team will win, but have no correlation to actually winning.

All write ups just include stats, trends and angles. That&#x27;s it. The main thing to know is that the linemakers know MORE than you. Of course occasionally there is inside info that some get before the books do, but that&#x27;s rare. Doesnt mean some people dont know more about a specific team than vegas....but, they know all the power rankings etc....Bottomline: Find people that win. Doesnt matter how ornwhy they picked a game....it doesnt matter.

But articulating your position/points still requires writing. What the OP is asking for is a rationale for the pick, not an essay per se.
