figured I would try and pick apart everyone's locks and POD and GOY and GOW ridiculous claims that people make...this is the NFL playoffs and what seems to be easy is most certainly not
before placing your wagers, please try and answer the questions below to yourself or add comments here
1 - Can David Garrard make plays on the road to win the game?
2 - Can a team win in Pittsburgh twice in the same year? (sounds ridiculous but its really really hard to do it anywhere let alone Pittsburgh)
3 - Can Pitt trust Najeh to run the ball 20-25 times and get 90-110 yards in place of Willie Parker?
4 - Can Todd Collins win a playoff game on the road?
5 - Can the Skins start fast to quiet the crowd in Seattle? If they dont, it will be very tough to win up there.
6 - Can Eli play a complete 60 minutes in a pressure spot?
7 - Can Gruden coach this game to win...not to 'not lose'?
8 - How do you feel about that Pittman/Graham RB combo in TB? How about Garcia being a healthy scratch yesterday? How about losing 2 straight to end the season?
9 - Can the Titans score more than 10 points in San Diego? Can they even move the ball?
10 - Can Philip Rivers not make mistakes to cost the Chargers valuable field position in what seems like it can be a low scoring game?
there's probably more but this is just some initial food for thought on a monday morning
my initial leans: Pitt, Seattle, SD, Giants

Only insight I can offer is that Garcia plays error free football, he plays to not to lose the game which results in slow tempo well managed offence.
Line came out at -1 for TB and now is at -3 for TB. Eli choked vs NE in the 4th quarter with the bad pass and did not manage the game. Gruden sat Garcia as they were resting their sore starters.
Early leans: Pitt, Sea, SD, TB

2) Pittsburg is DONE!! Explain how without W. Parker can they move the ball down field. You can trust Ben to throw the ball 40 times in the snow. How else will they get 1st downs against that D!!!
3) NO!!!!!
4) No opionion. I think the safest play on this game would be the under. That's what Wussie will be on
5) note above
6) I'll take my chances on this one. He has played great over the last few weeks, actually think we might just be a better team without Tiki Barber
7) Think you have this question stated wrong. Should read:
Can Coughlin coach this game to win...not to 'not lose'?
8)
9) Same situation as #4. I'll be on the under so I hope not.

Najeh Davenport is a good player and can definitely get Pitt 100 yards a game if there are some holes to run thru. Former Packer so I know alot about him.
There won't be much of a dropoff from Parker to Davenport. Parker wasn't doing that much anyway. I had him on my fantasy squad. Did Parker even score a TD this year?

I can answer # 3.

KOAJ....EXCELLENT!! Wish this type of post was the norm here vs. all the stupid prideful ( I am guilty too) bashing that goes on...
Please see my post on the steelers to answers those Q's (JAX WINS THIS ONE) Will answer the SD Q's and leave the others to better men than I...
Can't really address your questions directly, not sure about how many points TENN will score, or if RIVERS will stop the stupid errors...all I know is after watching the TENN lackluster effort last night, and knowing how well SD plays at HOME, especially against the weaker teams....Confidence is 10/10 that SD wins BIG!

dan - i do these threads once in a while...i do a ton during baseball season where the posters are a bit more mature since the little kids cant deal with the 16-20 week disciplined grind baseball needs
answer whatever you can...this thread is aimed to provoke discussion and poke holes in everyone's theory. too many times people fail to see the other side of the wager thinking that a team or a total is a slam dunk...failing to play devil's advocate with yourself is a mistake...took me a few years to learn that so i'm trying to speed along everyone else's learning curve

KOAJ- Great thread to start an interesting week. The news here out of Nashville is typical regarding Vince. Quad strain with a lot of Hollywood, Vince drama. I honestly think Fisher and Chow felt more comfortable with Collins in the pocket through the 2nd half than Young.
Great input from the others this AM. To answer your questions 9 and 10:
9.) Yes, but it would take 22 to win this Sunday. Can they do it? Doubtful. I am a season ticket holder and watched the debacle a few weeks ago here in Nashville. This game WILL get ugly and violent, these 2 teams officially do NOT like each other after the last game. Cheap shots from both sides after Merriman took a blatant shot at Young and did his dance after a clear hand off.
I sit on the 3rd row behind the Titans' bench and Fisher did order the hit on Merriman. Around 200 people heard it as he screamed it to the offensive lineman and tight ends who sit right in front of my seats.
10.) Rivers would worry me as a Charger fan and gives me hope as a Titans fan. We aren't going deep into the playoffs but this is the only AFC team we could beat in the playoffs. I think the Chargers win but its close with the Titans back-dooring the spread late.
Likely a 26-20 game with a closing line around 7 1/2. But that's only my early guess. I am off to see my Criminoles get whacked by Kentucky in the Music City Bowl.
Good luck to all this coming weekend and Happy 2008! I really have appreciated your knowledge in '07 and I look to continue in '08.

San Diego is a pretty interesting team right now. All the general public remembers is that slow start and bad losses. It seems unlikely Tennessee can score enough to keep up with SD. Vince Young with a quad injury, or Collins chucking it around in the secondary? Neither option looks like it can generate the 24 points probably needed to win.
Looking further down the road, neither NE/Indy have looked impressive in the last month. I don't see any reason why the Chargers can't hang with those guys. At 7-1 to win the AFC, it's not a bad team to take a flier on. I think there's good value on SD right now.
Regarding the Pitt/Jacksonville game, I love Jacksonville. They have been flying under the radar all season. They play good D, have a great running game for the cold weather, and have beaten Pitt straight up the last 3 times they played. Pitt has looked weak down the stretch, and Palamalu playing injured is akin to Sanders/Colts. He's the key to that defense, and at 75% they're just not the same team. I think the public moves that line to a more favorable position by gametime. The media is going to try and sell Pitt as a live wire team with the playoff experience to get it done. Bottom line? They're not playing very well right now.
The Skins have no business being in the playoffs at all. They'll get killed. Every year there's the blowout playoff game, and this year it's this one. I can see the sideline shot of Gruden looking like a confused old mallwalker in his Redskins hat like it already happened.
Regarding the Giants/Bucs...You have to try and create a vintage Trent Dilfer/Ravens game plan for Eli and the Giants. If they can pound the run with any kind of success and not have to let Eli make plays, I like their chances. If they fall behind 14-0, 14-3? Oh-oh... That game is a wilderness of mirrors. Who the hell knows which Giants show up? That 39.5 over/under is a bitch too. That game could be 31-28. Or 9-3.

Focusing on the Giants for a second, injuries are their biggest question mark.
The bar I go to every sunday has a big time Giants fan as an owner, so one of the main TV's has the Giants game on.... so I have caught most of the Giant's games. They stepped up on Saturday and I had not seen them play that fired up all season.
If they can keep that fire... If Eli can keep that "composure" he had Sat.... and the biggie... if the injuries are not serious to O'Hara, Mitchell, Madison and if Bradshaw plays against Tampa...
I don't see Tampa able to beat them this weekend.
Hey Koaj, what do you think of Rizzi? I live down the street and people are fired up for Ram Football again. Hell I dug up my old hat from the 70's ( a gift from my uncle an alum.) Happy new year bro!

when they giants play well, they are very impressive (at buffalo) when they play bad, they are awful (minnesota)
ive always had a tough time getting a read on what they will do at anytime. i'll wait until the injury reports later in the week to do anything but i cant imagine any of those guys not playing
if RU's LB and special teams play are any indication, rizzi will do a real good jo at URI
