Who was triggered Leftwich was hired? Is that what the OP said when he started this thread before the hiring?
youre the one who came in here and assumed that someone was “triggered” over the rule, when in fact it was brought to light that the rule isn’t helping anything and then others started saying how to fix it and we are still the bad guys, bro, I’m sorry I don’t understand why we aren’t having a conversation about the stupid rule with great intentions
and to answer your question Joe Judge was a better candidate than Leftwich, he’s had way more years under a better football kind in Belichek than Leftwich under Arians

@StumpTownStu Exactly and now back to the OP’s point of the whole thread, why is this a rule? It doesn’t HELP ANYTHING, alas it’s been pointed out how if anything it’s hurting, you dont think my hypothetical has ever occurred or could, that’s fine, you don’t think it’s making anyone feel less deserving that dumb people will say “well they only interviewed him/hired him cause of the Rooney rule” is a BAD THING. People say we need to LISTEN, and to TALK, and to come up with CRITICAL THINKING, to help the world see racism and it’s like and to overcome it or at the least minimize it as best we can, then when the OP starts a conversation on the topic his whole message is frowned upon, I throw a thought out reasonable “Free-Agency-Like” idea to make sure ALL teams have ample time to interview ALL qualified candidates for the job and you don’t even mention that part of my posts. Great talk, I’ll make sure to LISTEN MORE about how many problems there are in tge world and how racist it is
You're so fake. Passive-aggressive. Where did I say the world was racist? So why even say this? Where did I say the Rooney Rule was a good idea?

I'm simply saying a guy like Leftwich is getting interviews because he's one of the best candidates out there. You guys are proving my point by the fact that I have asked for better candidates, maybe five times now, and have yet to see one name.
i have no one that would be a successful coach of the jags. You’re right
hope they give whoever the next guy OR GIRL up a shot to do his OR HER own thing

This is all I originally said. Go back and read the thread. You still can't refute this. Still haven't started lot list better candidates. How many vacancies are there?

Why can’t I misquote you but you can misquote me? When the fck did I say Leftwich wasn’t deserving? Who’s fake? And when are you going to read my post that talks about a hiring process similar to free agency? Still waiting……..
you’re coming into a thread asking simply if the Rooney rule is a good thing and doing what it was set out to accomplish and yet you’re deflecting to pointing out white head coaching failures and saying Leftwich would’ve and should’ve got the job irredgardless of the Rooney rule, and laughing at people saying they’re triggered? Who was triggered? Was the OP who genuinely asked if the rule was working as intended or maybe we should look to a different solution to get more diversity in the coaching ranks, yet I’m passive aggressive?

Leftwich absolutely deserves a shot. Personally I think he will make a good coach. The purpose of this thread was to pose the question of whether or not the Rooney rule is "healthy" for the NFL. I think the simple answer is that it has no place in the NFL and is completely unnecessary. That being said lets get back to NFL gambling, which is what brought us all to this forum. GL this weekend guys.

I agree, I like Leftwich and think he will do well, if he doesn’t I hope he gets another shot later on down the road as he’s still young. I lived in Jax when he was their QB and think he’s been a fantastic OC so hopefully that translates to being a good HC but who knows.

Again, read the thread. I wasn't addressing you personally when I came into this thread. I simply made the very valid point that guys like Todd Bowles and Leftwich aren't getting consideration because they're black. They are getting consideration because they are what's out there. Go back and read the thread from the beginning.
As far as your cute little coach free agency period idea, it's a solution in search if a problem. The NFL hiring process doesn't work that way. Teams have short lists in mind from the beginning. The top candidates are aware of who is looking and can pick and choose. The lower candidates are just happy to get offers. There's never a case where s team has got swooped because they had to interview another candidate because of the Rooney Rule. And if you net with a guy you liked, you simply offer him the job on a handshake and have the contract drawn up, going through the motions of a Rooney Rule interview just to placate the league. This is how coaches are hired. You are making up fantasy solutions for nonexistent problems, and I'm sorry, I didn't think it warranted a response.

You came into this thread on page 3 and I came in on page 1, and I think that is how things got twisted. I have been more responding to the totality of what has been said. Not so much just to you. For the record, I think the Rooney Rule is stupid and does nothing. My only point was that guys like Todd Bowles and Leftwich deserve shots on their own merit. Not because of the Rooney Rule.

Shout out to Idle_Havoc for the "coaching carousel", btw...nice one, bud !!!
Such a good thread. If a guy we're to read it,they would learn that Joe Johnson will be getting 3 mil a year for the next 3 to sit at home and play John Madden on his PlayStation but Leftwich getting interviewed is the problem. It's affirmative action.

Hey Stu,
Joe Johnson was recently let go by the Celtics, bud...great career, but pretty sure he's not making that kind of money now.
Okay...okay...my bad
For sure...Joe Judge and his Alabama/Saban mindset (great for college) didn't translate...and that's the problem (imho) with most college coaches getting NFL jobs right outta school. If they put in the time with the NFL, okay...but newbies...not so much.
All the best

Pretty stoned right now. I identified him correctly earlier in the thread and his last name escaped me.

The point remains when a guy like Joe Judge get interviewed/hired nobody bats an eye. When he ultimately fails, in an epic manner, you don't see one thread created yet when a black coach gets interviewed guys cry Rooney Rule and pray for his failure just so they can say, "I told you so." That's covers in a nutshell. A few guys who like to shoot the dirt about sports and a thousand guys trying to add inches to their heat.

Wut… OP asked if the Rooney rule is good for football… even you said no… but you insisted on yelling at everyone in agreement because you’re protecting black people or something? Looks like everyone you yelled at agreed Byron deserves a job. Maybe a couple of 2 post prospects dropped a line and man that angered you. Get some sleep or something

My apologies for misunderstanding then, yes we are in agreement on the fact that Bowles and Leftwich are getting interviews based solely on their merits as Coordinators not because of the Rooney rule. And hopefully both get hired somewhere soon

That's all I was saying. Raheem Morris is a bit of a stretch but with so many vacancies, teams are reaching.
