The Rooney Rule must go. It’s time.
Yeah, but what I mean is he came in to run a defense that was already set and spent one year there. It is his one year with the Rams that is garnering him attention. And that defense was what it is already. The players seem to like him though. I feel the same way about Brandon Staley though I wasn't upset by that hire

@StumpTownStu
It is a big game of “who do you know” in the fact of “who have you worked for” as much as it is as what have “you done”. Mistakes will be made, they always are, but all you can do is try and try again until hopefully you succeed (or become the Jets)

Steve Spagnuolo deserves another shot at a head coaching job? He is a two time Superbowl winner as a defensive coordinator first with the NYG and was the architect of the D that shutdown the highest scoring offense (Pats) in NFL history (at the time) in Superbowl 42 and with the Chiefs in Superbowl 54 a few years ago.
Spags had 3 rough years 2009-2011 with the St. Louis Rams as their head coach with a 10-38 record. I have been impressed by his work with defenses over the years...at least he knows something about the game and championship football.
Some of these head coaches know nothing about the Xs and Os and less about the Jimmys and Joes and they still have jobs.
Great D coordinators don't always translate into being great head coaches...Bud Carson (my favorite D coordinator of all time) and Buddy Ryan never won Superbowls as head coaches, but they certainly improved their teams' D.

I loved Wade Philips when he was the Cowboys head coach. Spags is such a good defensive coach. I think he needs a top level head coach type OC to have success as a head coach himself.

Sometimes just cause a guy is a good coordinator (offense or defense),does not mean he will be a good head coach. Dave Wannstedt for example,some guys are just better handling 1 certain aspect of the team,instead of being in charge of the whole team,and having to deal with the media and all the other BS.Plus even a great coach needs talent,Jimmy Johnson was great as a coach in Dallas,once he got all those talented players.In Miami with lesser talent he didn't do as well.
I'm kinda disappointed the Bears went with a defensive minded coach.I don't think defense wins to many championships anymore(unfortunately).I think with all the rules they put in place throughout the years geared toward people seeing explosive offences and high scoring games.Its all about the offenses these days and just who can out gun the other guy.

A lot of these guys could’ve been good head coaches if given the time to develop their system and team… it’s a shame when a great oc/dc gets their shot - hired to an awful team and canned after 3 years for not completely turning the organization around

Even NFL coaches think it’s a joke. Bill was texting Flores about the giants job that was gone before he even got interviewed. We have the jags wr coach getting an interview because his skin color. This is just absurd at this point.

Brian Flores claims that John Elway showed up an hour late to his interview with the Broncos in 2019 and was severely hungover. Wow. I don’t blame Elway one bit for this. He knows this Rooney Rule is a complete joke.
Great call @TheBigRunza
You nailed this thread on the head.
