Sherman/Pats/Non-reviewable plays....

Great games yesterday, and congrats to Sea and Denver fans and good luck in 2 weeks

Just a couple of random topics going through my head from yesterday games and this morning shows/radio....

First of all, I would like to say I had Sea and wanted them to beat SF.  But, one play really makes me wonder about what the NFL is thinking.  That fumble recovery by Bowman on the 1yd line was called "unreviewable"....

Why in the world does the NFL even have "unreviewable" plays anymore?  I try not to get on refs too much because their job is so hard with how fast the game is played today, but that said the refs have been AWFUL this year.  Why even give the option for plays not to be reviewed.  Yes, it actually helped SF because they then took over on the 12 instead of the 1yd line after the next play but if Seattle had scored it would have been robbery.  The refs simply cant keep up with the game and see everything, but that is not their fault.  Every play should be allowed to be reviewed to make sure awful calls like that are not made.  This reminded me of the Gb/Pitt game when Pitt blocked the fg was down by contact with the ball and GB got the ball back.  I dont put all the blame on the refs, as they cant see everything but I think the fact that plays are ruled "unreviewable" is a joke by the NFL. 

Second, I cant believe good ole head-coach Bill crying saying that Welker tried to take out Talib.  Are you kidding me??  The Pats are the kings of crossing routes and pick plays.  Now he is saying that a man with 2 concussions last month is going to lay out a guy 40lbs heavier than him?  Why wouldnt they run him over with one of the Thomas'??  The Pats get every call in the world, and cry like babies when they lose.  So happy Denver beat them.....Bill and Check-down Tom have a losing record since spygate in the playoffs.....go figure...karma

Next....I dont get all the Sherman hate and "n" word comments.  I am 31-yr old spoiled suburban white kid from 25 mins outside of Chicago.  I have been surrounded by all races my entire life.  I see 100x worse than this everyday.  The guy is the best corner in the NFL....these two teams HATE each other and talk trash all year and in the off-season.  Last week Cap mocks Carolina and talks trash and noboddy cares.  If Crabtree had caught that ball the exact same would have been done on SF side, you cant deny that.  Fact is, the guy talks and talk and walks the walk.  If SF is going to call him out, he can respond.  Who cares how or what he says??  These are world-class athletes, and what they do on the field is one thing.  For being a "thug" and "n", its pretty impressive that the guy GRADUATED from STANFORD.  Not many thugs can do that, let alone athletes and student.  He is more educated than 90% of the NFL and he does well for the Seattle community.    The race comments are a joke...it doesnt matter what color they are....Manziel, Harper, Cooper just a small handful of "white" people who have acted like morons and thugs this past couple years.  I see nothing wrong with what Sherman did....SF called him out all year, and yesterday they threw his way only TWO times, and the 2nd time ended the game.  Kind of funny/sad how people think he embarrassed himself, his team and the city of Seattle.  Here is an article on how he sticks up for Bowman.  The people were throwing food at Bowman coming off the field after being hurt.....those are the lowlifes, not Sherman

Finally, its going to be a great match-ups between the best offense and the best defense in two weeks.  I simply dont think the WR's for Denver will be able to get off the line and get open in time for Manning.  The teams that beat Manning are the teams that dont need to blitz and get enough pressure.  Seattle will play man all game and get plenty of pressure.  This defense will be too much, and Seattle will win the Superbowl

Just one response on Brady/ Belichik comments. Hows Rodgers playoff record since winning his super bowl????? The Pats are the best organization in not just football but in any sport over last 13 yrs. They are relevant every single year which cant b said for any other nfl franchise. Of course u cant win every year but guess what they will b there again next year. Its not brady and Bills fault that the last 3 years they havent had their best offensive weapons. Gronk when healthy is best tight end of all time out last 3 years in playoffs, Hernandez top 5 tight end goes on killing spree, lose best slot receiver in nfl and they still make it to afc champ game. The NFL just better hope next year the pats dont get big time receiver and gronk stays healthy or they will win it all.  This year if they had gronk and hernandez they would win super bowl..But i understand the hate towards pats, hey the yankees dealt with the hate too. People hate on the best thats just the way it goes and theres no denying who has been best team since brady and bill joined forces

They are relevant every year because the AFC East stinks...Being in that division is pretty much a bye into the playoffs every year

The fact still remains, when they were 'winning' all those playoff games and rings while CHEATING and recording the other teams and spygate people were slurping them as the best ever.....

Well, since they got CAUGHT....below .500  I bet they had injuries back then too, but now they cant get the advantage they used to and now they cant win

Bigger than the unreviewable play, what I feel was highway robbery was the blatant 15yrd penalty of roughing the kicker. The ref is staring right at the play in the reply. His job is to know the rules and it you hit his plant foot = 15yrd penalty. Means SF gets the ball at their 40yrd and game changes.  The fact that the ref spoke to all other refs and they still come back with a 5 yrd penalty blows my mind.

I didn't bet on the game, nor do I really care who won as this was an amazing game. Stupid calls/Missed calls are irritating.

The refs completely changed that game in the 1st qtr with a pick play on Hoo Man where he brushed the guy. Cost Pats points then next drive Welker took out Talib and on 3rd down they run pick play again , it doesn't work and they call holding on Ryan when he didn't touch receiver. Those are the facts. Yes Manning probably could have put up 50 if need be but the game was changed big time in 1st qtr.
If it weren't for BS calls that game would have been in Foxboro. Jets OT shanked FG pushing a lineman? Carolina Gronk gets bear hugged out of end zone they throw flag then pick it up w no explanation.

Since Spygate(taping from an unapproved angle) BB has the highest winning % in NFL. As a fan I'll take 4 AFC Championship games, 2 Superbowl Appearances and 6 Playoff appearances since. I guess those check downs are working ok.

Just because I am spoiled and from a wealthy suburb doesnt mean I didnt earn anything.  The reason for that comment is because many "white" people are calling Sherman a 'N".  Thats not how I was brought up.

In fact, I played Div 1 baseball on a scholarship I EARNED  I also EARNED 3 COLLEGE DEGREES, Journalism/Business/Political Science while playing baseball.

Are you honestly complaining about the Pats not getting calls???  They get more calls than any team in the NFL  You bring up of course the Jets and Car game....by the way the JETS call was CORRECT  and the Pats even admitted it   Yes, the Car call was terrible, but they still would have had a last play from like the 15 yd line....how about the pathetic calls against Clev to give them the ball on the 1 yd  to win the game??  You dont bring that up?? 

Yes, Welker was running a PICK play, which the Pats run more than any team in the league....but to take Talib out??  What a joke

The fumble recovery had NOTHING to do with the outcome of the game...Lynch fumbled it back to the 49ers and they got better field position anyway and still couldnt move the ball..The only player on the field for the 49ers on Sunday was Kap..Besides his rushing yards, they got stuffed...

That was definitely NOT roughing, it was clearly running into the kicker, if that was roughing the kicker then the NFL might want to rename the leage to something like the NFL for women.

 

Sorry, but this doesnt change my mind.  But, everybody has their own opinions.  In one of your threads you claimed he was on his way to being "elite"...and I dont think he will ever come close.  But, only time will tell.

In the two most important games of the year this season for them, their last 2 games against a BAD Bills and Jets team, I think Miami scored 1 td....thats nowhere close to being an "elite" QB....just my opinion though

He graduated with a degree in communications, which is still from Standford and is better than 99% of the lowlifes on this site

Its ok, I would be angry to if my team was the worst in the NFC East, and probably top 5 worst teams in the NFL for the next few years

The refs are consistently atrocious. Just as in MLB and other sports, the unions and their non-merit approaches trump quality officiating every time. Denver clearly deserved to win, in my opinion, but the reason you have all these " FIXED " threads on Covers and elsewhere, is because the officiating is so bad, people think the games are fixed ( which some are, but not as often as people suggest ). Unionized officials have ruined sports, and there is no reason for the NFL, MLB or others to care.

 

I agree, I think every sports has awful officiating.  I cant even watch the NBA anymore, to me that is such a joke.

As for the NFL, in a way I almost dont think it is 100% "BAD" officiating, but just the fact the refs cant keep up with the athletes.  Todays NFL players are freaks of nature.  I mean these Dline are 6'5 240+lbs and running like 4.5...

I just think the speed is too much to see everything.  I mean, they could call holding on every play if they wanted too.  In reality, how is an offensive lineman suppose to block these guys without holding them somehow?  How can a DB stop calvin Johnson from getting open?  It is impossible....but where do you draw the line of throwing a flag every play???

But, my initial post is why is there ever a play that is not reviewable?  To me thats just a joke, especially in the playoffs. 

Like I had said, Seattle didnt score on that next play, but had they gotten a TD on the next play that would have been robbing SF of 7 points.....in a playoff game.
