I registered just for this. I am not a Vikings, or Saints fan. I am a Cowboys fan. I was watching this game thinking about my team getting murdered by the Vikings. That being said, the Saints' players were intentionally trying to hurt Brett Favre. It was plainly evident on the play that the Saints' lineman scooped his legs out from under him, and drove his shoulder pad into his ribs. With the new QB protection rules(which I despise having played Defensive Tackle in high school and am attempting to play in college) that would have been unnecessary roughness. They taught us every practice, not to even fall on a QB. They did not once attempt to stop themselves from hitting him full force, 3 to 4 seconds after the release of the ball, multiple times. If you have time to count your steps after the release of the football, you shouldn't hit the QB, period. Yes, the Vikings turnovers were atrocious, at best. I will just say this, if the Saints hit Peyton like that, they will have more than 12 penalties, you can bet on that.

Dirty defense?? Farve was running out of the pocket and the defender (McCray I believe) jumped for his legs like any defensive player would have done. This thread is seriously retarded! The refs were terrible both ways, not only for the Vikes! What about the no call on the offensive pass interference when Sid Rice grabbed Jabari Greers arm and took away a pic????? No one is saying crap about that bc its football theres going to missed calls no matter what.. And if I hear someone say that OT pass interference wasnt a call they r mentally retarded the defender clearly didnt see the ball maybe if he would have turned his head and tried to make a play at the ball it wouldnt have been called learn the damn rules before yall start to comment on the calls!

CoreyG your a box if your a linemen and dont try to hurt the QB every chance you get! I played QB in h.s and college and everytime a defensive linemen had me in his grasp his tried to hurt me. They did the same thing to Brees when the defender elevated him and drove him into the ground late in the game but nothing was called. ITS FOOTBALL! and you say it was 3 to 4 seconds ?? come on kid if that was the case the receiver would have already caught the ball and we all know thats not the case..

I'm not saying I agree with the QB protection rules, I hate them. I am saying that, if the rules are there, they must be followed, right? No, I've never intentionally tried to hurt a QB. Hard hits, yes, but, hurt? No. The near powerbomb I am referring to, didn't happen outside of the pocket, it happened in the pocket. I know it's football, I play. I know it is rough, and players get hurt. I also know there are guys out there headhunting and that is what they made the rules for but, the rules failed in this game I believe. I love hitting people with full force but, the rules are designed to protect someone who cannot devoter their total awareness to who is trying to hit them.
The Pass Interference call. How many DBs do we see flailing their arms wildly because they can't see the ball but, they know the receiver does? He turned around of his own accord, the LB reacted because he knew the ball was near. He began tripping because he turned around, plain and simple. Not to mention, he would not have been able to bring that ball in back peddling, unless he was 7 feet tall. Bad throw, bad receiver reaction, does not equal pass interference.

I was listening to a interview w the all time two greatest d lineman to play Deacon Jones and Reggie White. They clearly say that every time they get the QB in their arms they try "to cause him pain" Reggie White is one of the classiest and nicest football players to EVER play the game and he said that. As a defensive tackle you should know the front 4 should have a killer instinct if you havent had that lecture by your d cord yet you will soon get it in college. The QB is the most important player on the field at all time, now how can you not try to take the single person who can dictate the entire game out of the game??? Its not playing dirty its playing smart and anyone who plays ball in h.s or college should know that!

And cut the BS that the Vikings should have won.  They would have won if they hadn't turned it over 5 times or could have won if they hadn't had 12 players in the huddle...simple as that.

if your a football player there is no honor in trying to injure another player (parlayme444 you should know that since you played in college)...they took their shots at favre...some questionable... as far as linemen being box for not wanting to hurt the qb...only a box tries to injure someone...its ok to play rough in the context of the game, but beyond that lies the coward.....

saints game plan was to scare favre into hurrying throws......turnovers turnovers ....sealed their fate

Hard Hits = Injuries! Lineman have maybe shots a game to lay a lick on the QB so why not try to cause damage on them??? Its like you have a girl you liked throughout your life and you have a chance to have sex w her are you going to do it softly or passionately no your going to try to rock her world! All I'm saying is when I got sacked or hit they tried to cause me pain! Whatever it took for them to keep me out the game thats what they did! Football is a rough sport and Brett Favre is my all time hero I wore #4 throughout my career bc of him and I know for a fact if you ask him he would say they didnt take cheap shots.. ITS FOOTBALL!

CoreyG87 u are an idiot kid. it was pretty clear to me that the refs were givin favre those calls especially that one where he got slammed, he released the ball bout the same time he was getting grasped by the lineman. no penalty on that crap!

Plain and Simple...Just like the Jets and Colts..Im so tired of all they hype from the Jets...Glad they got taught a lesson by the better football team.

i agree with you 100%... not that this is illegal, but it is cheap, and the refs fucked up by not taking control of it...

but there is no doubt, their primary gameplan was to injure Favre... make no mistake about it...

what can't be disputed is that the call should have been overturned... there was indisputable visual evidence that the ball came loose, and therefore, according to the rules of the NFL, forward progress is negated, and the ball MUST be respotted where he regained control...

now, it is possible that after respotting the ball they still would have had a first down... but it is IMPOSSIBLE to know that until the ball is actually respotted... and the refs didn't do that...

 

you can argue some of the other calls... you can even argue that the PI call was actually catchable, since that is basically a judgment call...

 

but you CANNOT dispute that the 4th down spot of the ball should have been respotted and re-measured... you can't dispute that!  it is black and white!
