"A
pleasant good morning to everyone and welcome to Week 7's SUCKER BET
brought to you by the fine folks at Tootsie Pop! For
those of you who are unfamiliar
with the SUCKER BET, each week I identify the games where the public
seems to be heavily favoring one side. Typically there are 3 or 4
choices each week. From those games, I choose one unpopular pick as
the SUCKER BET. Last week was another great week for the SUCKER BET as
the Browns beating the Bengals was this year's 5th outright win bringing
our season tally to 5-1 ATS. This week I'm on another home dog. I am surprised to how heavily Joe Public is all over the Cowboys. Only the Packers are getting more love in Week 7. I like Carolina here at home and coming off a BYE. DeMarco Murray is not playing Sunday and although the Cowboys didn't win last week, some still think they are a quality playoff contending team. They may be, I don't think so, but they may be. Regardless, they are far from great against the spread as a favorite, to the tune of 4-18 ATS over the past 3 seasons; 0-3 ATS in 2012. Carolina isn't all that great as a favorite either, also 0-3 ATS in 2012. But as a dog, they are 3-0 ATS this season. 3 of Carolina's 4 loses this season have been less than a touchdown. The Bears and Ravens have put up 65 points against Dallas over the past 2 weeks and I'm hoping the Panthers can add to that total. Though Dallas pass defense can be tough so the Panthers will have to run the ball. Which is true regardless of who they're matched-up against; Panthers are 7-1 SU when they run the ball 28 times or more since Newton's been
under center, and 0-13 SU when they carry it 27 times or fewer. For those who put value into the "looking ahead" theory, the Cowboys are hosting the division leading Giants in Week 8. Only the Eagles and Chiefs have a worse turnover ratio than the Cowboys. Penalties you ask? Dallas is the 3rd most penalized teams in the NFL. Only the Falcons have committed less penalties than the Panthers. Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. There you have, Panthers +2 hosting the Cowboys. Good luck to everyone this week and see you next week for Week 8's SUCKER BET brought to you by Tootsie Pop!"

damn i had a feeling you were goin to pick this game and bet against my cowboys...although ur record has been great..considering carolina comes off a bye and the trends all point to carolina (like it did to SF yesterday)...but i think the absence of jon beason and chris gamble crucially works in dallas's favor...and i totally dont believe in the whole "looking ahead to next weeks game (nyg)" because dallas needs to win as many games as they can so im pretty sure they're not gonna overlook/sleep on the panthers. thats for sure. but best of luck to you...ill be on the other side..

also the absences of demarco murray shouldn't make a big difference cuz he hasn't done shit except for the 1st game in NYG and last week against the ravens soft run D. carolinas run D is soft as shit. its been reported that felix jones has gotten in better shape since the beginning of the season...phillip tanner is nobody to sleep on neither

dallas definately loses ATS as favorites when the spread is 4pts or higher..but the spread is most likely gonna stay within 3 pts...i can easily picture dallas winning this cuz they really need to win all the games they can win

Great work Demapples. I don't know how anyone could question your picks. Your 5-1 record speaks for itself. Keep up the great work!...... Panthers it is.

The Dallas pass defense "can" be tough? They are #1 in the league in total defense and # 1 in the league vs the pass.
Throw out all the ATS garbage, that shit means nothing. Cam Newton and the Panthers are a lost football team. Cam Newton has not handled losing well at all, and is a f*cking crybaby. Last year, with all his "super man" acts, and when things were going good, it was all cake & ice cream. Now, he has faced adversity & has crumbled. Carolina ranks 30th in total offense. So you have the 30th ranked offense going vs the #1 ranked Defense. .. also....
You say that 3 of the 4 losses from Carolina have been less than a touchdown? What does that mean? With the exception of about two-to-three games every Sunday, all games come down to around 3 to 7 points. Moreover, there have been three common opponents between these two teams; Seattle, Tampa Bay & the NYG. They both lost to Seattle, the only difference? Carolina got them at home and Dallas had to travel to Seattle (a place nobody wants to play right now. Just ask Tom Brady) Seattles road record is 1-4, and that one win was against? You guessed it, Carolina. As for the other two common opponents; Tampa Bay & New York, the Cowboys beat both of them and Carolina lost to both of them (technically saying that Carolina "lost" to NY is an understatement, b/c they were humiliated on National TV) and the Giants had 1/2 their team on the bench (started a 3rd string RB who ran all over them...)
As for the Cowboys last two games you speak of, you can throw out the Bears game from the total of "65" that you referenced. 3 touchdowns were scored by the Bears defense, it was not the Dallas D giving up those points. And as for the Ravens, they have the 5th best offense in the league right now and outscored (and beat) the team with the best offense in the league (the Patriots).
I'm not a Cowboy lover, and like to fade them from time to time, but this game isn't the time IMO.
Good Luck!
btw; If you want a stat to look at, Carolina ranks 2nd to DEAD last in 3rd down conversions. One of the most important stats in the NFL.
