Family members living in Vegas mostly went in for $20,
but some took the plunge for $100 = $25k w/ LVGK
winning The Cup.

Bandied about is LVGK winning Lord Stanley's spells
the worst hockey loss of all time for Vegas Books...

HITCHCOCK, CHICAGO & CUBS

On 30 Dec '17 at Gulfstream Park:  
Durocher beat Mr. Cub,
won the Tropical Park Derby; Quinella paid a tad over $600.
With stats so alike, sometimes one plays a hunch on Names.

Hitchcock's play "The Photographer and The Undertaker"
(15 March '65) had Alfred's introductory vignette: Alfred
was an American football player... Then the play begins
and the 1st thing heard is a TV with an auditory account
of a baseball game, the play-by-play announcer describes
"There's a basehit by RIZZO"
and immediately thereafter the announcer exclaims in joy,
"there's a hit by BRYANT. "

All the while, the biggest "hit" (bump-off, rub-out, knock-
off, or "nullification" as termed w/i made-for-TV production)
is taking place, as ordered by "The Head Office in Chicago."

Today's Cubs have both Bryant & Rizzo hitting back-to-back !!

Very prescient of Hitchcock, and not the only occasion where
Hitch showed us the future.  In early 1945, Hitch's script used
'Uranium for an A-Bomb' as his "MacGuffin" - which was way
before any A-bomb was ever used; later on dropped on Japan!

Hitchcock also had the goods on the then top-gun Director

The 144th running of the Kentucky Derby
was the wettest derby on record,
but Justify, the favorite, broke thru the
136 years of history of the “curse of Apollo.”
which is how this long streak of futility has
come to be known — no horse had won
the Derby without having raced as a
2-year-old since Apollo did it in 1882.

Justify looked so much bigger & stronger
than the other 19 entries in the race, that
it is hard not to envision his Triple Crown.

Justify had enough speed to take control of
the race, and Bob Baffert & jock Mike Smith
opted to rate him just off the other front-
runners drawn to his inside – Promises
Fulfilled and Flameaway.

Justify makes it the 6th in-a-row
chalk winner of The Run For The Roses.

Supreme Court ruling today, 14 May 2018,
lets legal sportsbooks to begin operations
throughout the USA; it had previously only
been allowed in grandfathered-in states:
 Nevada, Oregon, Delaware, & Montana.

Supreme Court ruled 7-2 for New Jersey's
challenge to sports betting ban, & struck
down the 1993 (25 y.o.) federal law that
prohibited sports betting outside Nevada:
Ruling lets other states set up sports
books as source of gov't revenue.

There was some luck on his side for his latest winnings.

Mayweather collected $101,250 playing on a “Ten Play Draw Poker” machine on Sunday in Las Vegas. The 50-0 boxer announced his six-figure jackpot on his Instagram account, although he did not name the casino.

Mayweather probably didn’t cash his winning ticket and  just tossed it in a drawer along with with his nine-figure checks from fighting Manny Pacquiao and The Notorious Conor McGregor.

When UNLV’s baseball program was flirting w/ becoming a No. 1 seed in '14,
the athletic department looked into hosting a regional.
The NCAA's policy prohibits championship events from taking place in
Nevada just because of its legalized sports betting.
So NCAA well-compensated execs don’t even consider any UNLV offers.

There is new hope that NCAA championship events can come to Las Vegas
after the Supreme Court ruling yesterday regarding on single-game legalized
sports betting outside of Nevada.

The NCAA released a statement by heap big chief legal officer Donald Remy
that lawyered about the issue but kinda indicated the policy could change.

“While we are still reviewing the decision to understand overall implications
to college sports, we'll adjust sports wagering and championship policies to
align with the direction from the court.”

Desiree Reed-Francois, UNLV's athletic director, after the Supreme Court
ruling, moved to begin discussions w/ the Mountain West on how to bring
events to Vegas. stating, “Working collaboratively with local and regional
leaders, we're confident that Vegas can present competitively to host future
competitions, as there's a proven track record of success hosting multiple,
large-scale sporting events here in Southern Nevada.” Las Vegas Events
has been working to attract NCAA championships to the valley.  And if
states adopt legalized sports betting, the current NCAA prohibition would
be difficult to enforce because it'd limit the places where the NCAA could
hold championship events.

Las Vegas Events submitted proposals to host NCAA chapionships
for a men’s basketball regional, a men’s ice hockey Frozen Four,
and the national wrestling meet for 2019 to 2023, but the
NCAA Board of Governors didn’t even look at the bids.

But now bids will once again be submitted for the same 3 events
for the 2023 to 2027 cycle. Separate efforts will be made to attract a
Final Four, as awarded through 2022.
Las Vegas’ has had success in annually hosting 7 men’s & women’s
conference basketball tournaments. The Pac-12 Conference women
will join the men here next year.

Conference tournaments have been allowed to take place in Vegas
b/c the NCAA leaves site decisions up to the leagues themselves.

The presence of major pro sports in Vegas could help the city’s case.
The NHL was 1st of the 4 major sports leagues to put a team in Vegas.
 In 2 years, the NFL’s Oakland Raiders move into a new stadium near
The Strip.

Those can only help Vegas' argument, especially the tremendous
acceptance that the Golden Knights have had here.

GS vs. Cavs - Part IV

The vast majority of the viewing public fails 'GS vs. Cavs - Part IV.'
Even if the series, and each & every matchup, was a Pick 'Em price
- which this NBA Finals is not close to being; it's so badly lopsided
its no-way a "must watch."  GSW (-1000) vs. Cavs (+725) in 2018.
If one bets such a crappy contest,  then the most one can invest in
terms of one's time is to wake up the next day, scan the results and
utter  "Ho-hum: They won / They lost."
