Bolar and Rod, always enjoy the AFL informative thoughts and picks, as I have followed you both religiously for years nonetheless, just have never been able to afford to wager so much haha. But I was wondering, what exactly is this pre-season? Are teams split up, is this the reasoning for both Carlton and Collingwood facing Richmond? And are there any different rules for these, such as less minutes or less quarters?

Just for this weekend and next weekend, they are doing 20 minute halves with rule changes. If you kick a goal from outside 50, you get 9 points. The last person to touch the ball when it goes out of bounds, gets a free kick against them.
So the idea is to speed up the game and have 3 games in the space of 3 hours.
When all 18 clubs play this style, in the quarter finals I think it goes back to the normal 15 minute quarters with the same rule changes. Not sure on that.
But at the moment, the games are shorter and faster.
The reason why the bets flopped last night I think was because of the weather. It was wet in Adelaide apparently, which always changes things, especially in short matches.
Tonight's games are indoors.
Carlton are fielding nearly their full strength team - it all depends on how many senior players play in each game though. Collingwood are fielding nearly their full strength team. Richmond aren't.
I'm playing Carlton over Richmond x Collingwood over Richmond @ $2.19
I'm going to leave the last game alone until the team lists are out. Richmond's side is too young and inexperienced to cope tonight. They will be like Port Adelaide last night IMO.
Again, as it's pre-season, it warrants small bets because anything can happen (See last night). But if Richmond win a match tonight, I will be very very surprised.

GL mate. I'm staying away. You just don't know who will be on the field and for how long. I'm with Rod the format now is just stupid and condusive to injuries.

they added spreads of Carlton -6.5 over Richmond and Collingwood -14.5 over Richmond, see what im confused about is that they just play back to back, Richmond does? Collingwood is -9.5 over Carlton

But what the team playing back to back do is they play the players who didn't play the first match and give some guys in the first match a chance to play 80 minutes, instead of 40, which equates to 40 minutes less of a real match anyway.
It's a rubbish format but I see why they are doing it.

Yeah this new format is crap.

West Coast over Hawthorn x Fremantle over Hawthorn
@ $1.64
West Coast -12.5 @ $1.90 Fremantle -16.5 @ $1.90
Hawthorn are fielding a team which includes about 6 of their full strength 22. They have sent over a young team. Fremantle and West Coasta are stacked full of guys in their starting 22's. Should be a similar result to last night.
Again, small stakes.
