didn't read it but assumed they'd stay here anyway
I just think the T-birds deserve to be favourites over the Magic in Adelaide and off a disappointing loss last week they should be keyed up to get this one

surely the Pulse will be put on notice. Maybe a merger with another team could / should be on the cards. Not quite sure of my geography across the ditch but the Pulse is based in Wellington, whoever is nearby needs to absorb that club. While it may over examining, I think Thunderbirds have decent incentive to win this even though it doesn't change their position on the ladder. Chances are that if they beat the Magic they will play them in the preliminary with the Magic off three games in Australia.
Whereas if the Magic finish top they would have to play them after a weeks rest if they managed to beat the Vixens in Melbourne in the prelim.
That said I am not backing them. Thunderbirds put together a stretch of 4 games where they won by an average of 23. However, their record against the other top 4 teams is not very impressive:

what tipped me is that i can see the magic GK and GD causing more problems for the adelaide shooters than vice versa, which may be the difference in the game.
adelaide have a similar, arguably better, combo to the fever who were made to shoot a lot of long range shots as they had trouble getting it inside to the mad stork. beveridge has been shooting well but i am not sure she will deal with the physicality and athleticism of williams and her offsider.
Plus the money appears to have been for the Magic

couldn't have been more wrong on my assessment, magic shooters were hopeless today, while beveredge was very impressive, pretty much doing what she liked against both magic defenders they put on her. she would have to be a decent chance for a starting spot in the australian team.

my feeling is fever would dislike firebirds more than steel, they made a big deal about beating the swifts and that making the swifts the worst team in australia. rivalry is stronger between australian teams than australian teams and NZ teams.
while most players don't show much emotion there is a fair bit of passive agressive stuff, like when they roll the ball away rather than giving it to the opposition after a penalty or pretend they are going to pick it up for them and don't.
they may play badly but i don't think they will lay down on purpose.
