the difference to me is the age group....we had sex ed in 7th grade when i was a kid.......i dont htink sex ed should be for k- through 3rd grade, most normal average people agree with that....i dont think its a fringe belief.......i teach my 5th grader enough for his age, as he gets older i will teach him more, that is my job as a parent

the point of the law here in florida is yes we have sex ed, but the new law says it cant be taught to k through 3rd graders, pretty simple and most sane people would say it makes sense.......does not mean sex ed is banned in fla, just cant teach it that young ......the law came about because there have been districts here that were teaching that stuff to kids that young and parents flipped out rightfully so, hence the new bill

Age. The law prohibits any teachings of sexual nature to students K-3. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
This is the sad and scary reality. All these kids have cellphones and many are watching porn by 5th grade. Being exposed to things much beyond their years that will retard their ability to have healthy relationships with sex as they age. So, yeah, we'll probably have to start implementing health class earlier than the standard 6th grade but that doesn't change the fact that K-3 is still too young. However, this is 2022, and we have elementary school teachers who push personal agendas everyday. The bill prohibits some teachers from teaching "It's ok for a woman and a woman to be together." simply because they are lesbian. Or, "It's ok for a man to transition to a woman, and that woman is just as much woman as your mom." just because they are trans. Frankly, the way the bill is written, it would be just as illegal to say, "Sex should always be between a man and a woman." Or, "There are only two sexes."
I'm personally very for tolerance, and raising tolerant children, but 1st or 2nd grade is much to young for these topics. The media, as it does, both sides, blew this thing up into something it isn't. The Do Say Gay Bill? Give me a break. And if you were a guy like me who truly does not watch cable news, truly does not have a Twitter account, you would hear "Don't Say Gay" and think, "Yep. Sound about right for Florida. What's wrong with them?" Truth is the bill simply says no teaching of a sexual nature, regardless of content, to kids K-3.

So what you are saying is, the bill is much more about parental rights than sex education??
Thanks

not at all......they can teach my kid all the sex ed they want when he is older........i seem to think that those topics are not suitable for k- through 3rd graders......my point as to what i teach my kid as a fifth grader was to illustrate that i choose to teach my kid what i think is appropriate for his age.......it has nothing to do with parental rights, at least not for me......

It's one of those thing where nobody is teaching kids in Florida grades K-3 Sex Ed/LBGQT stuff. But Florida is making sure nobody will. Since nobody is doing it. Make sense?
Reminds me of years ago when my town wanted to make it illegal to open a porn shop. There were no porn shops, there were no plans for porn shops, and porn shops pretty much have gone away for a few decades. But someone needed to make sure the thing that wasn't happening didn't happen.
Now the wording seems to be the issue though... after stating it can't be classroom instructed in grade K-3 they add "or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards" The actual language makes it that any school age can be targeted, so if they deem that a 18 year old Senior in HS is not 'age appropriate' they can go after the teacher/school/etc...

Bro, you don't know what's being taught in Florida schools. You're in no position to make such a statement. What, are you a elementary principal? A superintendent? Do you even live in Florida?

I know you never had kids because you could never get past the part where the woman laughs at your weenie. I know you have no friends with kids because you have no friends but sadly, this is really a thing. Cellphones, sis.
