 I think your view of Iran.Trump vs Iran.Biden is quite a far distance from reality, how do you think that given the US's distance politically from Iran that there could be much of any influence or impact on Iran? To me Iran stays completely away from the US and vice versa, so the reason to me for your conclusions about Trump/Biden are more MACRO than political and that really has little to do with one politican vs another.

So Iran much like all of the middle east oil countries are economically controlled by the price of crude since their production is greatly controlled by their government. If you look at the price of crude during Trump's time in office, the highest crude went was low 70's and the lows were 30's and it hung around the 50s mostly and near the end of his term it went below zero for a day or two. Trump came in as oil was crashing from late 2014 highs over 100 and by the time he was sworn in it was in the low 30s. The bubble for crude had popped, banks stopped lending, fracking was grinding to a halt on a speculative basis as supply was swamping demand and prices were getting wrecked.

Point is that Iran who is highly dependent on crude sales, they are #5 OPEC producer and so as prices went from 100 to 70 to 30 they were in a horrible place, as was Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Russia and all high producing monopoly oil countries. So Iran was in an economic slide and not until Covid and the oil spike after have they begun to recover.

You cant say that Trump kept oil price low, no more than you can say Biden made them higher..the cycle time for production from exploration takes years, decades and Trump crude price was completely caused by Obama's term and the fact banks stopped lending as crude dropped, production reduced as prices dropped and marginal players were forced out. You know more than most about the impact of fracking production and the cost of capital how that plays a major part in that fringe production, your country relies heavily on fracking and sour crude and that cycle hits your country as much or more than the US.

In the end I dont think either Trump or Biden have much impact on Iran because economically they are insulated by being in OPEC, if the US does sanctions but oil is high does it really matter to them? Not so much as does oil at 35 when it was at 95 two years earlier. They are losing money as a country with oil under 40 as most are, the cost or production is more than 35 especially for a government controlled production model.

Its easy to simplify things and say that this is Biden vs Trump but to me that for sure is not at all reality, especially since Iran is very insulated economically and politically. If anything I would say Russia and China have more of an impact on Iran politically than the US does. I also dont have a single clue about what Trump MIGHT have done vs Biden except to twitter them to death, I dont recall much of any action Trump took on a foreign front, the world was smack in the middle of ZIRP and zero inflation, not much of consequence was going on and that is a good thing. I would hate to think what an out of touch little ego like Trump would do when there was a serious situation that required him to think of more than himself and when the next McDonalds order was arriving for his 9th hole lunch break.
