I believe that 38 or 42 is the cutoff age now for new recruits. I was able to try and get back in due to prior service time which is deducted from my age. Today is one of those day for my back now... has not been the same since I injured it trying to get back in.
If his life is as fuck up as he says... serving a few years in the military would do nothing but help him get his shit together. If he fails in there... I don't know what to tell him then.
I'd recommend the military for all young people who need a kick in the ass to get thier lives jump started.
Also, employers consider Vets before others when hiring so after he gets out he would have better luck. He could also go to school after he gets out and get paid for it.
Some people join a trade and receive about 700or more per month while being an apprentice.
You can't beat what they offer young people. Just stay alive to use it... if not... it was your time.
