This is getting crazy and you cannot go to a fast food joint without spending 50-60.00 for a family of four.
Thanks Brandon and maybe 50.00 a hour would really help all get ahead. Those Bidenomics are really helping.

Yeah, I agree.. I live here in CA, and would love to see a big fast food joint like McDonald's say F U to California , and leave the state, due to the new $20 minimum wage for fast food workers. That would be a shot across the bow.
We really have a bunch of idiots in politics that don't believe in "" free market Capitalism." Bunch of MARXISTS,.... and it is widespread here in CA.

Sometime long ago, lefties complained that minimum wage was supposed to be "" a living wage. ""
What a stupid connection. Minimum wage is supposed to be uncomfortable. Learn new job skills, etc. to climb the ladder of success. But lefties don't believe in that. They believe ""the first rung"" on that ladder of success is just fine.
Wrong

If you're feeding your family McDonald's, the price is the least of your issues.

$20 an hour is not even a living wage. It's literally below the poverty line. I almost never eat McDonald's but if it costs more meaning some poor shmuck is paid better, i'm all for it. The price of dining out was already rising, even here in Oregon.

Exactly. If you can't afford McDonald's, don't complain. Choose not to eat it. It's crap food anyway.

@witswits
@Rush51
I mean, both you guys live in California. At least I know you do, Rush. I don't know anything about witwit, but I can only assume. I can't believe we are sitting here talking about $20 an hour being too much money for anyone to be making in this state. That's such an insignificant amount a money in Cali. What, are we supposed to start bussing people in from Carson City to work in our menial jobs? Is it not bad enough that some of there poor souls have to drive in from places like Stockton to work in places like the Bay? And i'm quite sure the cost of living is even up in places like Stockton? Could you imagine breaking yourself physically and mentally, and financially, to live in a shithole like Stockton? No offense to anyone from Stockton.

And to be clear, I do not support this bill. And I have detested Gavin Newsome for literally two decades. It's a poorly thought out bill that aims to put the onus of corporations but really puts it on small franchisees. However, the fact remains that even if you live in far outskirts like Barstow, Bishop, Shasta, etc. Whichever corner of the state you call home, nobody is California should make less than $20 an hour. Those are literally poverty wages.

@StumpTownStu
Or ...
Instead of raising the minimum wage to $20, how about lowering the tax rate on ALL products.
It is a fact that the largest percentage of cigarette smokers are low income, so would it not make sense to lower the tax on smokes?
Their thought process was that the exorbitant taxes on cigs would motivate folks to quit smoking. It didn't work.
Gas taxes are ridiculous. Sales tax is high. Every kind of tax is extremely inflated in CA.
The $20 min wage will hurt more people than it will help. Does anyone believe that corporations who employ 100's or 1,000's of fast food workers are going to eat the extra payroll expense? Not even California politicians can be that dumb. The result is that many jobs will be lost, while prices will FURTHER increase.
I am not opposed to raising the minimum wage, but for every ying there is a yang. The ramifications of this increase will most likely outweigh the benefits.
For the record, I do not, nor will I ever, live in CA

Naw just a little fellow political fun and enjoy throwing a few bucks on a game or two.
Hope to bring a smile to a fellow human being and learn something from others point-of-views.
How about You? You have a good history here as well.

A McDonalds job was never intended to be a living wage in the first place.
A place for teenagers to get spending cash and learn how to grow in the job market world. A place for seniors to supplement their retirements without jepordizing social security.
And why is California so different? Could it be that they have over regulated beyond belief that building a single public toilet costs $1.7 million?

Amazing that 1 in 8 Americans started out at McDonalds. It was supposed to be a stepping stone or a part-time extra job for some to make a little extra money.

You're my brother from another mother, and I have love for you, but you're wrong on this one. What about the people who do not smoke? What about the people who do not drive? Taxes are too high in California. And state spending is out of control but the two issues aren't mutually exclusive. The fact is the California is an expensive state to exist in. And $20 is an insignificant amount of money comparative to the general cost of living in the state. I was making $20 at my first job out of high school. That was, what, 24 years ago. I can't stress enough how small an amount of money that is, in that state. It's mind boggling how anyone would even get by on that.

This is a narrative that gets pushed, and it's kind of a fairytale. You can roll up to a Micky D at like 1am. What the heck teenager warning extra money is working at McDonald's at 1am. That's some poor unfortunate soul. Some uber-grown, poor, unfortunate soul. As far being a stepping stone, to be bluntly, these aren't people with the opportunity, nor the aptitude do something different. It's like the proverbial stripper paying they way through college. They don't exist. These aren't Rhodes scholars we're talking about here. There doing crappy jobs b/c that's there lot in life but hey, someone has to do such things. As far as McDonald's never being intended to pay a living wage, well, $20 is not really a living wage in California. It's a poverty wage.
I'll say this. A few years ago there were all these memes about how the lower class could move up if they could just stop buying Starbuck's. As if treating oneself to a cup of coffee should be the thing that makes or breaks anyone. I'll apply that same logic. Fast food prices had gone up anyway, regardless of wage increases. If a person can't afford fast food, don't eat it. It's doesn't even taste good. You can get a burger at a diner or casual dining establishment for essentially the same price plus tip. Or make a burger at home.

And hey, maybe the result will be the closing of many of these fast food establishments and those workers will be forced to "learn new skills" or whatever. The country is oversaturated by such establishments. Either they will sink or swim. People can vote with their dollar. If it's too much, don't go. Take a stand.

I actually think the fast food joints do a service to both the people and community. They take a young person that has little to no skills and attempts to mold them into a person that can communicate, work together with others, understanding retail sales, see what a chance at advancement is and if they'd want it. Some even learn how to make change for a dollar.. It also allows that mom or dad to take a part-time job to help with the bills. Some that were not very skilled, worked at multi fast food places daily to get by with the bills.
All-in-all the fast food industry helped most that were involved in it, even know the food was not always the best choice.

With my age Stu, I have witnessed the transition. McDonalds was a part-time job for extra cash. The real middle class jobs WAS manufacturing. In my town GM was the way to salvation, Generous Motors. Then there were many small local machine shops that supplied the auto makers and other manufactures. Maytag, Kenmore, etc were all over Michigan.
Now that's all gone. WHY? First is cheap foreign labor. Second is all of our labor and environmental regulations that often times go beyond reasonable. Third I blame manufactures for not holding unions feet to the fire. Unions are great when held in check and there is balance. IMO unions allowed to support politicians is destructive.
Now we have the green agenda that squashes any chance of regaining manufacturing.
So raise the wage to 20/hr and less employees will be required to do more, less customers will buy the product and very little is gained but political brownie points.
This really is on the same plane as Trump's tariffs. Prevents China from dumping on the steel market, saves US manufacturing jobs and in the end raises the costs that are passed on to the consumer.
Same with UAW agreement, good wages for a work force that in turn raises prices for the consumer.
We are addicted to cheaper Chinese goods and they target our remaining manufacturing to put them out of business thereby controlling the market.

Some quotes by a McDonalds representative about the Fast Food Union that has been formed for handling the pay hike:
"Simply put, organized labor hasn’t been successful going through the front door – giving everyday workers the ability to choose whether they want a union. So it asked for a backdoor – pushing Sacramento lawmakers to introduce, pass and sign a bad policy that hurts small businesses, workers, and consumers."
"As a 20-year member of a company that operates in many different political environments around the country and around the world, this looks much more like autocracy than democracy."

There are two times/reasons I eat a Mickey D's burger.
1 - Nostalgia
There was a McD's by my house when I as a child. My parents wouldn't take us there. But my grandparents always stopped there to buy us a burger and fries when they were bringing us back home after spending the weekend at their house. So, on rare occasions, I stop there for a burger. Opening that white paper wrapper brings back childhood memories of my grandparents.
Of course back then you didn't have to lift the top off and hunt for the burger, it was sticking out all around the bun.
The other difference is back then I didn't find myself saying, after finishing, "Remember to never eat here again, this food is crap."
2 - Air Travel Safety Precaution
Whenever I fly I always stop and get Mickey D's at the airport, right before take off. My theory is, "If there is a God, no way He'd be cruel enough to make this wretched grub be my last meal."
It's worked well so far.
