Firstly, I don't cry after losing a bet that the game was rigged... I was referring to games I personally had no bets on.
Secondly, I've heard this nonsense many times before that the NBA and American Sports are so big ... but REGARDLESS the score is affected by 5 players in each team ... millions are watching but only few are responsible for the score .... there are only 3 refs, 5 players, 1 coach ... why do you think those few people are so honesty and full of dignity?!?!?!
If you want to think about the opposite so the opposite of all this could be like having elections - there are only 2 candidates but do you have any idea how many people are "behind" them that influence so much?
Sorry but you are just blind if you believe the NBA is honest sports ... perhaps the STOCK MARKET is also a honest market ... gimme a break if that's what you believe in - then I'm sorry - you're just another typical American who is just too blind to see the truth in front of his face.
There are actually more like 15-20 players affecting the score for each game. Then there are the 3 on floor refs, time clock operator, review officials, numerous league officials monitoring each game, assistant coaches, announcers for all sorts of media outlets sitting sidelines talking about each player/ref/coach within earshot also affecting the games.
What motivates all these people in your view? If its some vast conspiracy to fix games for a particular outcome... answer the question - why? They all collectively have millions of dollars of action on each game they are performing in so have a personal stake in whether a particular spread is covered or not? A personal stake outside of continuing to receive their massive salaries?
In my world they are motivated to do their job, which is to perform well & win games, otherwise they won't have a job anymore. A coach and his staff are spending their time preparing a game plan for the upcoming opponent, not rehearsing some script handed down from above they have to adhere to. Their only 'script' is the game plan they've drawn up. And the players are competitors. They did not make it as far as they have by losing when told to and winning when told to.

It's one thing if you claim the refs are manipulating a game to favor a popular team, so that the NBA looks good. It's a whole other thing to claim Vegas or oddsmakers have anything to do with this.
And If you use spreads and betting examples as proof of rigging then you are claiming oddsmakers are involved in this. That is the part of all this that is insane. I've said this over and over, Vegas doesnt give a crap about it's sportsbooks operations. There's not enough money involved compared to what the rest of the casino operations bring in. So obviously they'd have zero interest in fixing a game.
The smoking gun in my evidence of all this is two companies, CG Technology and William Hill. Casino operators are hiring these companies to take over and run their sportsbook operations. Now think this through, if "Vegas" was making so much money from sportsbetting that they needed to fix games, why would they hand all that money over to these 3rd party, independent sportsbook operators? Think this through.

You are trying to describe the mindset of one league, one sports (Basketball is one of many other sports) ... have you tried to think how the stock market works? What about Goldman Sachs - why is it so big nowadays? How did it make so much profit? Watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC19fEqR5bA (old video but the concept is right)
What motivates a bookmaker in the first place? He gets 60% of bets on A and 40% of bets on B - would he want A or B to win?! No need to be a genius to answer that question.
American sports is linked to gambling, whether you like it or not ... you go to the ESPN to read about the next NBA games - you get them with the lines as well ... !!
If you think this is happening by coincidence then sorry but you're delusional ... !
No wonder why so many people say Americans are naive and stupid - because they really are (no offense).

What's the relevance of a 3rd party operation here? Who cares who creates the lines and whether there is an intermediary?!
The bottom line is simple - wherever you have a big market you have profits to make and you can be sure whoever makes those profits wants to maximize them.
It's no secret bookies don't get 50% bets on this side and 50% on that side ... take San Antonio tonight for example, favorite to win with spread of -14.5
In a pure honest world they should win by 40 but because this is a MARKET the outcome is totally unknown!
This one could end where SAS wins by 14 (and not 15) points, and then after the game everybody would scream it was rigged etc. !
Market => Opportunities For Some => Things are not genuine.

That is the most accurate statement on covers.
Money controls everything, and people are greedy.
Only Americans would see people left out of the hall of fame, sent to jail, kicked out of school, scholarships lost, leagues fined, people arrested, athletes ADMITTING to receiving bribe offers....
And despite all of that...some people will still claim sports aren't fixed/rigged/clean...sure are some morons out there

The relevance is that it's proof there is not enough money involved in sports betting for casino operators to waste their time operating it. Most people familiar with how Vegas actually works knows that Vegas only has sportsbooks to entice people into the doors of their casino. They hope they'll make a bet then go hit the tables or slots where the real money is made. FACT is sportsbooks only represent less than 2% of overall revenue for casinos.
Do you wonder how your local bookie always wins? How he never goes bankrupt? He rakes in money even when it's a small operation. Is he fixing games? No of course not, he wins because running a book is GUARANTEED MONEY! 99% of sports bettors are losers in the long run, you run a book your gonna make money. Fixing is not necessary. A random NBA game on a Wednesday night means absolutely nothing in the big picture. To say that a game like that would need to be fixed is someone who doesnt understand a bookies operations.

Read post #20 here: https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=22&sub=102229148
And read here as well: https://www.gamblingstories.com/topic/264-21st-of-january-2016-nba-is-rigged-mind-is-not-free-from-gambling/#entry648
PS I had no bets on these games!
Not just the NBA, they all are. These players are just entertainers; they and the coach received huge cash after the game. Vegas control the result of the game. Vegas already knew who will win the Super Bowl. all the stupid fouls, time out with 2 seconds left and down by 6 points, missed free throws so the game will or will not go over.

Where do you bring up the 2% from? I love it when someone knows exactly the right figure to reflect something.
I know how a bookie works, they make money from the "fee" aka (=also known as) vig/juice.
So you risk $1000 to win $900 - the bookie made $100.
But don't you understand the bookie might get 70% of bets on A and 30% on B? This is where it's worth getting the outcome to be B. Why? Because human beings by nature are mean.

The 2% thing is based on every article or story regarding vegas casino revenue breakdowns. And its less than 2%, I rounded up. Just use google and prepare to have your mind blown.
Your A and B example are again flawed because of how a bookie operates. He doesnt operate on a day to day basis, he kows he wins in the long run no matter what happens on that day. Books do have losing days, they have many. But by the end of the year they have way more winning days then losing. So to say that because lopsided money may be involved in a game, that they must take action because of it......well thats a ludacris assertion.

I do agree that books do take sides though, the whole 50/50 thing is somewhat of a myth, but instead of a whole fixed angle, let me give you a more logical explanation as to why they do it.
Books can recognize situations and spots where they know sharps or big money are looking to pounce. And if they agree with the sharps (on the pick) they must protect themselves. How they protect themselves is to shade a line away from the sharp side to keep them away. Whats the counter response to that? All of a sudden the public side gets an even better line and gets more public money. But that doesnt matter, cause they know big money will come hard if they didnt shade the line. So then when the public loses this bet what happens? They yell, "that line was fishy! The fix was in!"

So Cavs -6.5 tonight is that what you would consider a shaded line?

Losing gamblers never cease to amaze me. It's the same stuff I hear in the casinos from players who system after system.....still can't stop losing.....instead of accepting the math behind the negative expectancy games they play (deeming ALL betting systems pretty much worthless), they start blaming the casinos for lacing the decks in the shoes, or, manipulating the ball on the roulette wheel. Etc. They just can't understand what negative expectancy means. It means, you have a low-negative chance of winning each and every individual wager. Doesn't matter if you progress 1000 times, or wait for a pattern than only shows up once a year, ....each individual wager has a negative expectancy. Period.
Sports betting continues and will continue. 50/50 chance to win, or 50/50 chance to lose.
Does it matter if its fixed or not? Do you really believe that your chances to win or lose would be ANY different if its fixed or not fixed? You will randomly bet on the fixed side or against the fixed side.
You will randomly bet on the winning side or the losing side.
What's the difference?....
Oh....did you think that if sports WASN'T fixed, then your "analysis" would work more often? And that some how, sporting events that weren't fixed, would save you from the natural negative deviation that happens in all random and/or 50/50 things? ....That some how, if it was 100% fair, random 50/50, you would win long term and make a living beating the book?...... cmon now. lol
Sounds like another huge excuse for gambler's fallacy.
Posting threads like this are pointless. No one is going to "wake up". No one is going to "stop gambling". You will not win your "money back" from losing wagers. You will not reveal to yourself and others a "long term winning system" by understanding how they "fix the games". All you're doing, if anything, is drawing attention to yourself. And giving other losing gamblers, another way to vent and blame someone else other than themselves for their losing wagers and gambling problems.

And giving other losing gamblers, another way to vent and blame someone else other than themselves for their losing wagers and gambling problems.
So Cavs -6.5 tonight is that what you would consider a shaded line?
Yes. To the naked eye? It looks like the line is moving, because all the money is going in on the cavs. It went from -5.5 to -6.5. However? To an educated follower of "match-ups", you'd understand exactly why the line is moving. The books are trying to encourage action on the clippers, because more than likely here (no guarantee), the sharps are on the cavs. And the clippers do not match up well against the cavs at home. Especially without blake. Cavs are set to win this one by at least 10. So they want to even their action out by making the clippers bet look more enticing, and the cavs bet look riskier, .....even though the MATH and recent play, points towards the cavs winning by 10...maybe more.
No one knows...these are just VERY strong statistical opinions.

Bad beats happen all the time anybody that has been gambling for a while knows what I'm talking about. It's impossible to win every bet you will go on hot and cold streaks that is why this is called gambling.

this comes on and posts about how the nba is rigged every day after he loses his bets :'(
some games are rigged but its only a few of them and they won't rig games unless there's a big motive, they won't be risking their credibility fixing matches if there isn't a proper reward.

SINCE YOU KNOW THE NBA IS " RIGGED " THEN EXPLAIN TO US SUCKERS EXACTLY HOW IT'S " RIGGED " . YOU SOUND LIKE A PERSON WHO DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO GAMBLE SO THEREFORE IT HAS TO BE SOMEONE ELSES FAULT . I HAVE BEEN GAMBLING FOR OVER 50 YEARS AND MADE MILLIONS . I'VE NEVER BLAMED A BAD CALL IN A GAME IN MY LIFE . THAT'S WHY THEY CALL IT GAMBLING ! TO QUOTE DICKENS " YOU PAYS YOUR MONEY AND YOU TAKES YOUR CHOICE ". MY ADVICE TO YOU IS , YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO GAMBLE SO STOP .

Dontknowhotobe, #1 please do not get offended, as to call anyone names, thanks
With that formality out of the way, I can see manipulation taking place at for example lper seeded professional tennis matches, and other lower leveliddle off the season obscure games in individual sports. With the money the players make today there is no incentive for them. You mention htime and full game lines, and that is to show that there is fixing going on. Playing ball,as you I am sure know is all about a game of streaks,or more aptly phrased a game of runs. I see that you are very attached to your belief that all sports, and in a consistent manner a fixed, as to your very upset, angry rebuttals. I take it that you have a vested interest,or have invested a lot of time at proving your beliefs
Whatever the reason,it is great to be passionate about something but if it is something soon grand in scale,if you are going to post things of the like on a sports information/betting site you should come with much more conclusive material
Anything is possible in this world, the only thing is if you want to prove your belief, you have to get some facts, and if not facts some very telling data that shows trends, patterns etc
But otherwise you can understand that people are on here to either make some cash, get a pick, celebrate,or girl a little
...or whatever other reasons. But, as you have seen not the place to voice beliefs that right of wrong, just do not do anything for anybody. If you can give some foundation to your beliefs different story. Thanks, good luck in your writings

Our whole entire world is corrupt, with money and power being the root of it all. What amazes me thou, is how many clueless people still believe that sports isnt fixed on a regular basis. If there is money involved, you can be sure there are people out there doing everything they can to get that money, no matter what it takes. Having corrupt refs is the easiest way to fix games, because it wont matter what the players do during the game. They control the outcome with that magic whistle.
Also most of fail to realize how important the whole sports industry is to the economy. If our govt started busting all the game fixers in all the sports, it would totally devastate the sports industry and our economy. People would then see that all the games, they were paying their hard earned money to go see, was just a big joke. Why do you think as an example, when that NBA ref got caught fixing games, his whole case was settled so fast and the story vanished? To get it out of peoples minds and make them believe the games are real and arent about stealing money,
Humans have been corrupt since we have been on planet earth and that will never change.
