if u try and do the double and quits thing tomorrow u WILL lose.
take ownership of these losses and vow to never get in this hole again.
at 17 you should be doing other stuff anyway, this gig aint for you.
True. Just pay what you can in a lump sum now and make periodic payments for the rest. One grand is no big deal, but if you keep going and lose you're going to find yourself in a mess.
Get laid and do some of the other stuff 17 year olds should be doing and leave this crap for the old timers like me. Good luck.

hey man it's only $1000 not like $50,000k owing but the smartest option is to stop betting but I reckon you will end up picking a winner tomorrow so bet on it...put $1000 on Boston @ 1.56 against NY Islanders you make a good $500 then take another sure bet in the evening

I am 17 years old and am a senior in high school. I recently started betting with a bookie, that was shown to me by one of my friends. I have had a job for 3 months now and have saved up a good $1,000. Last week i lost $85 wich was no big deal and i paid up right away. This week i started out great and it all went downhill from there. I am now down $1,025, and payday is tuesday. I have no clue what to do at this point and i need some advice. I am thinking about just making 2 $500 bets tommorow in hopes of breaking even before payday. If i lose, I will just confess that I cant pay up. If my parents find out that I lost all the money i worked over 3 months for, I cant imagine what theyll feel like. I believe the bookie i am betting with is in his early 20's, and i dont know what hell do if i dont pay. Please give me some advice on what to do...I just cant give up all $1,000 i have worked hundreds of hours for, just becuase of one bad week and irresponsible week of betting. Please help!
STOP BETTING

Listen dude...I am willing to "bet" majority of the people on this site have been in a similar situation as you are in right now...Most gamblers go broke at least once in their life...I don't take you are a big gambler, but you got into a big hole and trying to win your money back will just keep digging a deeper hole...Don't bet anymore with this guy...You don't know who he is and what his situation is...You don't know his "back" and how he resolves people that don't pay...Don't take a chance on a play that someone gives you to try to win your money back...It isn't worth it because if you lose then what? The bookie will see that you are down even more money and will care a lot more if you don't pay him...If you were to bet more and lose, it is almost like stealing from him because if you won, he would have to pay you...I took some bets back in high school and know the feeling of people scumming me and not paying up...I didn't have the "back" to resolve those issues, but I know that if I did there would have been major problems...Listen, you are down $1,000...You have worked very hard for your money, but in the scheme of things, it's just money...Don't be stupid and get yourself hurt...Pay the man his money and stop betting...Or if you really want to bet, you have to learn how to manage your money...Your friends that hooked you up with this bookie should help you out if you tell them what the deal is...Don't fucking say a word to your parents...You don't want to have that burden on your shoulders...Your parents will lose a lot of trust in you...Talk to the bookie and tell him your in a bind...You give him half and tell him to give you some time to pay it off...You have to learn this lesson or you will never get it and continue to make bad decisions because you think you can get away with it...Take it from me because I have been in your situation and have learned a lot in the years I have been gambling...It's just money kid...And in a few years when your making bank, you will look back at this (if you do the right thing) and laugh...Good Luck on whatever you do, but just don't get hurt...

Do you think i should take one more stab at winning half of my money back tommorow, then if i lose try to work out a payment plan with my bookie?..I saw your plays, which one are you most confident in?

Honestly I wouldn't advise on doing that and potentially losing another $500 because then you will actually be in debt...And if you do win the game, you will want to do it again...I don't advise doing that, but I've said what I wanted and should said, so now it's up to you to make your decision...My best play tomorrow is Mavericks vs Bucks Under 190 if you must know...

Wow, this thread is good. We can see a lot of best plays coming in.
Btw, whatever you do, I wish you all the best. I have been in a similar situation. Just pay the guy and take some time off betting. When you have save enough, then start betting. You need to bet what you can afford to lose. Placing a bet with bookies are just like using credit cards, except if you can't pay up, credit cards wont hurt you.
Good luck my friend. May your problems be gone soon...

I have actually ran from a bookie before. I believe I was 20 or 21 years old. I don't suggest that route. Not that I'm bound for life in a wheelchair or anything. I seriously was looking over my shoulder constantly. I have since moved away but not because of the bookie issue. My career led me elsewhere.
Cut your losses and pay what you can now. You are 17. A very young age. Learn to manage your money if you do decide to keep betting. Don't get into bad gambling habits i.e. cash advances on credit cards, bank loans, etc. Believe me, I've been through it all.
Funny thing is...I make good money now and yet I never bet as much as I did when I was in college betting. I guess I felt like I needed to make the quick money. Of course, I don't feel that way now. My career pays the bills...not my gambling habits.
Good luck with whatever you do. But be smart about it. Like KK128 said, it's not worth your health or your life.
And I agree...telling your parents is out of the question. My parents thought I had a bad gambling habit just because I went to a casino once and used their permanent address for my casino club card. They kept nagging me every time they received brochures in the mail from that casino with my name on it. It got annoying. Little did they know I was gambling...just not at the casino. But maybe every parent is different...so circumstances may vary.

babs i think u gave the best advice outa anyone, and i appreciate it. Its just so hard givin some guy i dont even kno all this money, when it is much easier to say "sorry i cant pay" and see what he does. I think i am just going to make 1 bet 2mro for 500 and if i win that..bet anotha game 2mro for 500 and if i win both ill be even. You gotta tell me what plays you like 2mro. I trust you babs lol...il be tailing you w,e...i cant pick a game for shit right now. Had colts -1.5 tonight, and got a text from my bookie right after saying "ruff game". Doesnt get much worse than that!
applesorgnage, trust me, this will be the cheapest lesson you will ever learn, we all have lost thousands and thousands of money at casino or wherever before we realize its time to stop. Stop? there's no stoppping for all of us once we are into this. Gambling on sports is fun and we enjoy it. anyways, you are only down $1000, i know its a lot of money to you, but it won't be so much in the future. This is like a tuition fee of gambling, we've been there and done that. my advice is you be honest with the guy, pay him $600 first, and then $100 for the next 4 weeks. i'm sure the guy will understand that. the last thing you want to see if the guy go to your house and telling your parents that you owe him money from sports gambling. my last advice is go take a walk along the beach with a few buddies of yours and tell them what you have done and how you are feeling. you will be fine. You are very smart to have already asked this question and worry about yourself and parents. i'm sure you don't want to upset your parents and you love them. So just stop betting and come back when you have saved up cuz we all know we ain't quitting this thing.

its almost 3 oclock here and i got school tomorow, but i saw a few plays i liked for 2mro..ravens browns over 3 combined sacks and ravens TT over w.e it may be. I may try to parlay these two. If i win, no more irrational betting for me. I will really start to buckle down on money management with no chasing whatsoever. Maybe play a maximum of 3 games a night and no more than 5% of my balance(wich would be $25 )on one single game. No game is a guarantee, and i am stupid for making such big and irrational wagers. I hope i can pull one out of my ass tomorow. Good night and good luck tomrow everyone. Thank you for all the advice!

Been there and done that and lost all and started from zero. IF you want to take this chance, make sure you keep your job for the next 4 months and work for nothing. even if you get through this time, so what? you are no expert and obviously you still can't well manage your money. good luck.!

You don't pay this guy and your place of employment will be given new meaning...
you'll find a horse head in your bed, take a bath in a some wet concrete and you'll see what goes on in the great beyond.
your VERY FORTUNATE...why? you HAVE THE MONEY...pay what you owe and get back to work...
LMFAO!!! Fuckin classic. holy shit bb and b.
To the thread starter:
You know what you have to do. You're probably two young to make the right choice though because you keep asking the one's dishing out the smart advice if they'd "make a play to get it back." That indicates to me that you've already decided to do that, you just need some validation from someone who doesn't sound like a bone-head. Do the right thing. It'll build character.

i know you will not stop even if majority of the people here tell you to stop betting what you can't afford, so pick your plays wisely. And the play should be made by you so there will be no regrets if ever you lose. Loosing 2K is just a small amount and trust me the bookie if he is a legitimate bookie will find a way to make you pay.

I was in this same exact position when I was 17 and if you listen to me everything will be ok. OK???? Now this is not what I did because I didn't know any better but perhaps you will learn from my mistakes.
1st) DO NOT TELL YOUR PARENTS! If you do you be labeled a gambler and they will be up your ass asking 5 million questions, 2) DO NOT BET MORE! This is a must. Do not chase. This will only bring more problems even if you should get lucky and win.
What your going to do is...be honest with the guy. Tell him you got jammed up. Tell him your gonna give him HALF. Pay him $500 asap.....Then tell him you'll give him $50 a week or $100 a week until its paid off...whatever you can afford. He won't say a thing. Let him know that you didn't wanna give him a million stories but you just wanted to be honest with him. He will respect that and will NOT give you a hard time.
Now.... If you feel the urge to play sports or whatever...find a way to fund an online account for $100 and play a little. Learn what the fuck goes on instead of just putting bets in with your heart.
If you should listen to me I will promise you that this will be the CHEAPEST lesson you will ever learn,
Good Luck!
This is spot on.
As someone who works in PR I can tell you that being up front and honest and expressing a sincere willingness to appease the party who's nose is out of joint (in this case, the unpaid bookie) is the best approach towards calming a potentially flamable situation like this.
If you try to push back on this guy you risk losing a lot more than just your cash.

Look kid, despite all the good advise people have been providing, you are more interested in finding good picks for tomorrow. Like countless others have said, you should just pay up and keep your job.
If you had won all your bets instead of losing them, you would expect your bookie to pay YOU right? Now you feel bad parting with a G...what if you had won a G, would you feel bad taking it from your book?
As many of us have been in the same situation, doubling down rarely works. Scared money never wins.
You should just pay up, and learn about sports betting before dipping in again. Learn to read lines, check line movements, bet with your head instead of "oh, no WAY Lakers don't come out strong and rape Houston tonight."
GL with whatever you decide, though I get the feeling I'm wasting my breathe. I think the best suggestion was pay the $500 and then go on a payment plan. Don't get dirt on your name over 1000.
