Honestly I wouldn't advise on doing that and potentially losing another $500 because then you will actually be in debt...And if you do win the game, you will want to do it again...I don't advise doing that, but I've said what I wanted and should said, so now it's up to you to make your decision...My best play tomorrow is Mavericks vs Bucks Under 190 if you must know...

Btw, whatever you do, I wish you all the best. I have been in a similar situation. Just pay the guy and take some time off betting. When you have save enough, then start betting. You need to bet what you can afford to lose. Placing a bet with bookies are just like using credit cards, except if you can't pay up, credit cards wont hurt you.

I have actually ran from a bookie before. I believe I was 20 or 21 years old. I don't suggest that route. Not that I'm bound for life in a wheelchair or anything. I seriously was looking over my shoulder constantly. I have since moved away but not because of the bookie issue. My career led me elsewhere.

Cut your losses and pay what you can now. You are 17. A very young age. Learn to manage your money if you do decide to keep betting. Don't get into bad gambling habits i.e. cash advances on credit cards, bank loans, etc. Believe me, I've been through it all.

Funny thing is...I make good money now and yet I never bet as much as I did when I was in college betting. I guess I felt like I needed to make the quick money. Of course, I don't feel that way now. My career pays the bills...not my gambling habits.

And I agree...telling your parents is out of the question. My parents thought I had a bad gambling habit just because I went to a casino once and used their permanent address for my casino club card. They kept nagging me every time they received brochures in the mail from that casino with my name on it. It got annoying. Little did they know I was gambling...just not at the casino. But maybe every parent is different...so circumstances may vary.

applesorgnage, trust me, this will be the cheapest lesson you will ever learn, we all have lost thousands and thousands of money at casino or wherever before we realize its time to stop.  Stop?  there's no stoppping for all of us once we are into this.  Gambling on sports is fun and we enjoy it. anyways, you are only down $1000, i know its a lot of money to you, but it won't be so much in the future.  This is like a tuition fee of gambling, we've been there and done that.  my advice is you be honest with the guy, pay him $600 first, and then $100 for the next 4 weeks.  i'm sure the guy will understand that.  the last thing you want to see if the guy go to your house and telling your parents that you owe him money from sports gambling.  my last advice is go take a walk along the beach with a few buddies of yours and tell them what you have done and how you are feeling.  you will be fine.   You are very smart to have already asked this question and worry about yourself and parents.  i'm sure you don't want to upset your parents and you love them.  So just stop betting and come back when you have saved up cuz we all know we ain't quitting this thing.

its almost 3 oclock here and i got school tomorow, but i saw a few plays i liked for 2mro..ravens browns over 3 combined sacks and ravens TT over w.e it may be.  I may try to parlay these two.  If i win, no more irrational betting for me.  I will really start to buckle down on money management with no chasing whatsoever.  Maybe play a maximum of 3 games a night and no more than 5% of my balance(wich would be $25 )on one single game.  No game is a guarantee, and i am stupid for making such big and irrational wagers.  I hope i can pull one out of my ass tomorow.  Good night and good luck tomrow everyone.  Thank you for all the advice!

Been there and done that and lost all and started from zero.  IF you want to take this chance, make sure you keep your job for the next 4 months and work for nothing.  even if you get through this time, so what?  you are no expert and obviously you still can't well manage your money.  good luck.!

You know what you have to do.  You're probably two young to make the right choice though because you keep asking the one's dishing out the smart advice if they'd "make a play to get it back."  That indicates to me that you've already decided to do that, you just need some validation from someone who doesn't sound like a bone-head.  Do the right thing.  It'll build character.

i know you will not stop even if majority of the people here tell you to stop betting what you can't afford, so pick your plays wisely. And the play should be made by you so there will be no regrets if ever you lose. Loosing 2K is just a small amount and trust me the bookie if he is a legitimate bookie will find a way to make you pay.

As someone who works in PR I can tell you that being up front and honest and expressing a sincere willingness to appease the party who's nose is out of joint (in this case, the unpaid bookie) is the best approach towards calming a potentially flamable situation like this.

If you try to push back on this guy you risk losing a lot more than just your cash.
