Rich people talk about stocks the same way poor people talk about sports gambling. 

Breakdown numbers. ATS, on turf, on grass, home, away, defense vs throwing qb, defense vs running qb etc etc 

One group watches ESPN, one group watches FOX News.

I can assure you I am not trying to be a little bitch . I was just questioning why someone younger than most on here likes to tell people not to gamble on sports as its a losing proposition yet bets on some questionable games . I have no problem with detox whatsoever but dont like the talking down to and the chest beating threads saying how he made $20 M a year . I dont think i ever called him a name or stooped to that level on this post or another . It just irks me is all . I guess my bullshit meter went off yesterday and for that I apologize 

Why do people gamble on sports? Let’s admit that it’s probably due to a multitude of unhealthy reasons. Chasing endorphins, looking for that ping in the brain, boredom, escape from reality. Pure entertainment would probably be the healthiest reason.. and even then it’s not the healthiest way to entertain yourself. 

The point I’m making is that you can feed that same beast by chasing stocks and the outcome turns drastically in your favor. 

But — even knowing all of this on some level people will still stick with sports gambling instead of stocks — why?

The reason that people gamble on sports and not stocks is quite simple ... instant gratification.

You have already given the example of a stock investment over 20 yrs. While it is a sound argument, it is an argument to be made for people of sound minds. Within the sports gambling community, 95-98% of us are not of sound mind, we are here for the instant gratification. Am i the only one who has robbed my family of my attention or time because I had to watch the end of the game? That is not a sound decision. Am I the only one who took time away from my job so I could handicap that night's game? That is not a sound decision. Here at Covers, we are a collection of folks chasing instant gratification. Even though I know this is not in my best interest long term, nor in the best interest of my family/friends/boss etc, I will still gamble because of the instant gratification. It makes me feel good today. Flawed? You betcha. But it's why I am here.

You would be better served to post this where it would get some traction . Most of us that choose to post in the box have a ton of experience and have years on you . Hence the small bets that make the games a little more interesting . I can assure you that this clique in here will not be giving half and halfs under an overpass based on the degen bets we make 

Pretty good response but I think it’s deeper. I would agree with “instant gratification” if we were what Billy Walters allegedly is. But there isn’t much gratification in losing or going 50/50.
