Trolls running rampant. Handicappers - Stop posting your plays until they're taken care of.

This "new" forum layout has been branded as being "intuitive and responsive". As most of you probably know and may already use, one of its new features allows individual posts to be flagged/reported using the Report button within the drop down arrow on the top right corner of each post. You must be in the new layout mode to Report however, as the "old"/current layout does not have the Report option.

Reported posts by trolls are currently not being taken care of for whatever reasons. Could be due to the lack of a proper setup of this feature where not enough mods are receiving the alerts. Or the alerts are not going through properly, mods are too busy, etc.

Whatever the reasons, those of you who are posting plays should IMO not be feeding the masses any more plays until this situation is brought under control.

Great idea and statement motowner. I've been reporting posts too but nothing happens!

I can't believe the amount of negativity and hounding some of the guys receive here. Usually it's the most successful ones too! So ugly and sad.

Will look at the report tool more. Been mainly using the old layout, don't like the new one.

Its not even a remote priority for them. These are free forums. They make no money off of regular people posting and discussing bets and strategy. Post, enjoy the people you communicate with and just disregard the haters and negativity. Thats all anyone can do really. As in life as well.

i didnt think my post would make anyone do anything i was just expressing my dissatisfaction in this thread and blood's decision. calling everybody stupid on the internet doesn't make you look very good; also im probably a lot smarter than you. im smart enough to know that beating sports is a long shot and very time confusing, so it is a more entertaining (and potentially more profitable) prospect for me to go on a forum like this and pick a handful of people who i think have a better chance of winning and then sweating their bets with them. or are you saying that everyone has to bet sports exactly the way you stated, and that we should just quit if we dont do it your way?

actually i dont, but in my experience, intelligence is one of the things people usually dont overstate about themselves since it's pretty hard to fake (hence why the dude that's trolling me had to call me stupid instead of calling himself smart), so do they say that those people are right?

I've sat back and read a bunch of posts tonight, and although there are inevitably some trolls with ridiculous posts, most are positive and in good sport.

That being said, the number one troll I see on here tonight would be Droyder.  He constantly rips on the other posters intelligence calling them "leaches, idiots, brain dead, etc", yet he seems to get a pass. He constantly rips on people about their records or tells them to cap games and post themselves, yet he's yet to post a single pick all season.

Don't get me wrong I don't post much because I don't have the time either, but I also do not tear people down for their picks or their record. He makes comments to get a rise out of people and cause a stir, which is exactly what a troll looks for.

Just my 2 cents sitting back here reading everything going on tonight, and I cringe every time I read one of his posts because they're all about the same.

Thanks for all of the quality posts by excellent cappers, you have helped a bunch of good people win a lot of money!! an_cheers

Droyder isn't a troll and not who I'm referring to. The funny thing about him is that he's usually right, but has always posted with the more "tough love" approach as he refers to it. It rubs some people the wrong way, but many others who've been around long enough understand him. He doesn't do the things that I alluded to in the OP.

I'm mainly referring to all the low-post total guys who are constantly coming in and commenting when handicappers have bad days. Or they question lines on their posted plays without understanding the most basic concept that lines move and that the cappers have usually posted their plays many hours before they even read the thread. And at the time, those were the lines. Or they'll accuse handicappers of copying other handicappers, which is incredibly disrespectful. Or they beg for more plays without ever saying thank you.

The vast majority of these comments are being made from brand new accounts, so their names aren't easily recognizable, but they're always there and festering. What many people don't know is that many of these accounts are actually created by agents of books who try and discourage the most successful cappers from posting plays. That's not a conspiracy theory either, it's been exposed on these forums for years.

I completely understand those that you alluded to, and apologize if my perception was a little misdirected. I just think there are better ways to handling people than calling them the scum of the earth and saying how stupid they are, even if it's correct. Just adds fuel to the fire and gives a bad look.

Although my post count is also low, it's because I'm fairly new and just starting to get involved on this forum. You'll never see me question picks or beg for others picks, that's their own choice either way!

I hope all of this drama works itself out, but if you're intuitions are correct about the book agents then it will never end. Just have to ignore the ignorant comments and enjoy the people that collaborate on a daily basis.

Whether he's usually right or not is irrelevant as I'm judging him based on his current actions and not his past. Yes, it rubs people the wrong way when a stranger is making rash assumptions, generalizations, and insulting you on a public forum, from behind a screen. Your capability to understand his tantrum doesn't make it ok.

honestly ive been following blood for a couple of weeks and the vast majority of what ive seen have been posts wishing him luck and thanking him for his contributions. your protest is to the few who dont fit this bill and your solution is to punish everybody because a forum that is visited by thousands of people attracts a few new players who may or may not be unaware of their breach of etiquette. this is something that would be impossible to eliminate. or...

So, if I call you an idiot or a moron everytime I make a point.  You'll consider that "tough love"?  It may rub some people the wrong way but not you right?  After awhile, you'll just come to understand it and accept it? 

Maybe you understand him cause his not calling you an idiot.  As long it's someone else, it's understandable.

Just my 2 cents.

Started to get into college basketball betting this season trying to make predictions using Ken Pomeroys site. With a little success, I wanted to see what else was out there for me to utilize. Stumbled onto this site and have been pleasantly surprised with the forums. Lots of good stuff on here. Never thought about posting not having much to contribute myself in terms of capping. However this thread led me to create an account right now and post my 2 cents. 

 

I greatly appreciate all of the insight and picks provided, especially (successful) ones that explain the reasoning behind them. Helps me look at games in other ways than I normally would. That being said, I'm a little disappointed to see a "hiatus" in quality posts. I get being irritated by people asking when your going to post your next picks/ critique them when nobody asked for their opinion. But the reality is this is a forum and that is the nature of forums. Motowner, you say bookies troll to try to get good cappers to stop posting. As far as I can tell, you just did that. Isn't it a little immature to let a bunch of anonymous people on a public forum bother you so much? By posting this, aren't you just giving the "trolls" what they want? I write this with all due respect and admit I am relatively new. Maybe it worked in the past. I don't know. But if it did I dont think I would be commenting on this thread. What I do know is making a big deal about trivial issues often times leads to an issue getting worse.

 

If the "trolls" bother cappers that much, then by all means stop posting if it makes you happy. Thats your prerogative. Just seems to me it's giving them what they want. Thank you to all quality contributors for putting in lots of work. Hope to see more of it soon.

Ankrum... you have 13 posts and joined last month and have zero clue as to how things have worked around here for a long time... Jikos same basic situation for you... so i'll clue you in quickly...

first off... i regularly posted my plays in all major sports for like the first 2 years here... hit around 63% combined... stopped posting my plays later... the time and hassle isn't worth it... always way too many ungrateful, miserable leeches who look to sponge off you... yet always have something to complain about...

second... i don't post much anymore but i still REGULARLY APPLAUD the solid cappers here in their threads... still have doubts?... here's 5 quick examples within the last week alone...

I get what you guys are saying, but if you just stop posting, the trolls will self-pleasure themselves over how they 'broke' everyone. The only people who will bet sad about a stop-work will be the good people who just follow and appreciate cappers.

Each capper should decide for themselves, and as someone who used to post plays on Twitter I totally get why you guys have had enough, but one thing I learned there is there is nothing more exciting to a troll than someone closing up shop. These fool see that as a badge of honor. A strike would be their wet dreams come true.

The best way to deal with trolls, imo, is as it always has been -- simply ignore them. They don't come back to your threads after they criticize you and your pick wins, so why do they deserve any response when they crawl back after losses? They're pathetic. Don't let them feel like winners by 'running you off'.I know that's not how you guys see it but that's how they'll see it.
