First of all, I believe the OP means millions and millions of casualties but you know...details details LOL.
LRR, while your first sentence is indeed true it's unfortunate that you fall into the trap of the same old typical liberal bullsh*t. You take one small fact, usually out of context, and then spin it into a false and misleading narrative to further your own causes among the weak-minded and gullible. To assert that it was a most educated and cultured German population that was essentially "duped" by Hitler's spiel could not be more wrong. That notion of the German people may hold true today, but at the time of Hitler's rise to power the German nation and population was completely broken and decimated from the fallout of WWI and the Treaty of Versailles.
Without going into too much detail and basically writing an essay, the damage done to Germany through the treaty was the acceptance of the War Guilt clause, disarmament, losing substantial amounts of territory, and reparation payments of over 130 billion gold Marks (over $400 billion US today). The territorial concessions the Germans were forced to make also stranded millions of ethnic Germans from their homeland, and the unreasonably exorbitant amount of the reparation payments caused extreme hyperinflation, which among a few other things, lead to the almost total collapse of the German economy. By the time Hitler came along, the German people were pretty much easy pickins for anyone willing to show a backbone and actually stick up for the country.
Now, I can see where perpetual whiners and complainers (aka the left) might want to draw comparisons, but if you believe the American population is in a similar position and so hard done by, I would love to hear your reasons why?
The underlying conditions are vastly different and the system is set up in a manner that the notion of an American president gaining dictatorial powers is beyond ludicrous. The fact that anyone actually thinks this way and believes it (and the fact that there are likely a lot of people that do), is a far more terrifying prospect than Trump as president. It's ironic that you're so encompassed with this delusional fear that you've missed the part where you allowed your mind to be completely enslaved and dependent on the state to tell you where to sh*t and when. This same state that is fundamentally dependent on your dependence to serve its ideology.
And if you want to cherry-pick facts...Hitler's first 6 years in power saw the rapid economic recovery of Germany from the post-WWI period during that little thing called the Great Depression.
