I'm having a hard time trying to figure out why MLB players can't make contact. Is it they don't study scouting reports? Or they just go up hacking looking for a fastball?
Going into todays games (Sunday), the list of players with over 100 strike outs sits at 54. Looking at the next group of players, this season will see over 100 players with 100 plus strike outs. I can't believe how many guys with a runner on 3rd base and a chance to get an RBI with a sacrifice fly strike out, and on top of that a lot are called 3rd strikes. When I was a kid you learned 2 things with 2 strikes. 1. Cut down on your swing. 2. Protect the plate.
I did find this stat as amazing and I can't understand how Joey Gallo stays in the majors. 241 AB's and 141 strike outs. WOW 50% of the time he strikes out. I understand he's in the line up because he has power, but 17 HR's 32 RBI's and a .174 BA doesn't show cause for worry? How can players like him not only stay in the league, but how can you pay him $11,000,000 for those stats?
I'm very close to giving up on baseball. The game just sucks. It's so hard for me to watch a guy take a 1st pitch fastball down the middle of the plate for a strike, and then swing at 2 breaking balls so far off the plate you'd need a hockey stick to make contact. Yeah I'm talking Javy Baez.
I can't wait for football, basketball, and hockey to start.
I refuse to belong to any organization that will have me as a member.

Baseball started going into the shitter when free agency started. It's also ruining other sports as well. How do players decide who they want on their teams (NBA). I'm 71 when I was a kid I knew every player who was going to be on the team all winter long as long as they didn't get traded. Now you have no idea who will be on the team because of FA and trades. Free agency also started making stats the most important thing for contracts. You don't need to be a complete player, just good at 1 thing. Being a Tiger fan, I'm not sure where the next Miggy Cabrera is coming from. Maybe Acuna on the Braves. Ohtani doesn't hit for a high enough average. Trout has had too many injuries of late. We got a kid Colt Kieth who may be close to that type of player. The kid can out and out hit and has power.

Another thing I notice in baseball is the inability for 99% of the players to bunt. $hit drives me crazy. Managers do not even attempt to bunt guys over successfully, even in extra innings with a runner starting at 2nd base with no outs. It seems that players do not even practice bunting anymore.

Things are far different now, has definitely hurt the game IMO. I grew up not just watching, but playing so it's even more difficult to see the changes which for the most haven't helped. It is what it is, everything changes, football isn't the same, you can't lay a hand on the QB. Imagine Johnny Unitas, Bart Start, Staubach, Lamonica playing today, they'd kill it out there today and laugh about it afterwards. The world we live in today brutha'.

Free agency, Curt Flood.

When you have to make all these changes like using a juiced ball, bigger bases, ghost runners and banning the shift, and you still have these putrid batting averages, it’s time to come to the realization that these players aren’t very good and analytics are making them worse. This sport survives because it’s the only game in town for a couple of months in the summer.

You're losing money at baseball aren't you? People only complain here when that is the case How many times have we seen someone post "so and so suck..." because they lost one game or had one bad outing or result

Won't be long before football starts using special jersey's for QB's like they do in practice. When I was a kid we played pick up games no pads and it was tackle football all the way.

Actually I'm not. My complaint is from what I see. I've been watching baseball since 1961 and hitters today don't have a clue what the strike zone is. Even umpires who make their own strike zone. I just don't like what I see out there. It's not very entertaining.

@OneWayOut I don't like starting a man on 2nd in extra innings. No one deserves to be on base if they made the last out the inning before.
I don’t like ANY of these changes. We’re the same age and I watched plenty of MLB over the years and played through college and this is NOT MLB….not even close.

There's always 1 in the crowd. I really don't care what he has to say. 1. He doesn't know me. 2. He doesn't know what I bet or how much.
All I was saying is that I've been watching baseball before he was even a thought in his dads scrotum and I have more knowledge about the game than he can ever hope for. I was only making a statement that players today aren't all that good. I got to see a lot of HOF players in the 1960's when I was a kid. Being from Detroit Al Kaline. I also saw Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Yaz, Frank and Brooks Robinson, Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Rod Carew. The list goes on and on. Except for Reggie and the Mick, most of those hitters never struck out or hardly struck out 100 times in a season. He's probably a 21 year old putz that thinks striking out so much is the norm for the game.
