u almost never fold this
now if you had something like 1 blind left and the 2 players were even in chips ypu dump it since tripling up wont be a fucking thing

I think if your friend folded AA in a cash game he is not as good a player as you believe he is.......and just cause he played with Brunson and Seidel doesn't mean he's good, it just means he played with them.......I played golf with Ernie Els once, does that make me a great golfer???

mmac66, tkf18ny, I don't think you understand, they guy folded the aces because he didn't want to risk everything on the first hand. If he busted out, what was he gonna tell his friend, who needed the money? If you were in a tournament, and you absolutely had to cash, would you call 2 all ins with AA on the first hand of the tournament? You could be out right away, wouldn't you be more confident that you could play well for a few hours and build some chips? As for playing against these pros, I meant that he held his own  vs the pro players. If you held your own vs Ernie Ells then that would be impressive. This guy told me he was in Vegas in the early 80's, and played against Brunson a few times, he won some pots vs Doyle, when Doyle was trying to bluff him out of the pot, and afterwards Doyle told him that he wouldn't "go against " him anymore. Doyle won a lot of money over the years by taking pots when guys didn't have a really strong hand, or the nuts, and Doyle would bet strong and guys wouldn't want to call without the "nuts" . My friend is a good friend of Barry Greenstein's, he knew Sailor Roberts well, so you assholes that think you know everything can shove it - you don't know what you're talking about.

well if winning a few pots off doyle, and being good friends with barry greenstein doesnt make you a good player, i dont know what does.
 
If im friends with kobe, does that make me a good basketball player? I dont know how being friends with a pro validates you as a player.
 
ANYONE can win a few pots off a pro, and by the way you talk about your friend, im guessing he plays with some level of seriousness and if that is the case then obviously he isnt just going to wait around for the nuts. Who are you trying to impress with this?

I don't even pretend to know everything and I understand WHY your friend folded the aces......I'm just saying he made a mistake; a simple mathematical mistake. Now if they folded AA because they needed the money then they were making a mistake being at the table......if you can't afford to lose the money and make poor decisions because you are playing for too much money then you've made the biggest mistake any gambler can make; and any asshole knows that!

And to answer your question about having to cash in a tourney and folding AA to two all-ins in front of me, pre-flop.......well, I'm not a good enough player to lay down Aces pre-flop!

Look, anybody who understands poker will tell you that your friend made a mistake if he was serious about winning. However, it's his money and he can do with it as he sees fit.....I hope it worked out for him.

As for Ernie and I.....well I did beat him on a hole or two and tied him on several others....so perhaps I am good!

You did get one thing right though.......I am an asshole sometimes!

mmac, you are right, they shouldn't have played the money on the table if they needed it, but 80% of the time guys are gambling with money that they can't afford to lose. Spoon  you chump, my friend is a good player, and he has played with and knows some of these "pros" , and the 2 have nothing to do with the other. I play with this guy all the time, and he often says, "I know what you have" to other players, he is right about 75% of the time, now knowing the hole cards of your opponents is a big advantage, right. I often "know" what players have but not that much. I know some guys who played with Hellmuth, Greenstein, Seidel, Seed, etc, in the late 80's to 90's, and they say without a doubt the best all around player, and smartest, is Barry Greenstein. If you saw the High Stakes poker shows, he made some unbelievable bluffs, like he knew his opponent didn't have a really strong hand, and he made them lay down a better hand with a 75 K bet, when Barry had like Jack high. I am not trying to impress anyone here, someone said my friend was a jackass because he laid down Aces preflop, bu this guy has played poker for 30 years, and in that much time maybe you would have a situation where you would have to lay them down too.
