So I was playing some $1 - $2 No Limit at the Borgata this afternoon....good game but I was waiting for an opening in the $2 - $5 No Limit game.
I played in this $1 - $2 game for about 45 minutes when my name got called for the $2 - $5 game. No big deal right?
Well about 30 minutes later I see a guy from the my old table starting to scream and jump up and down. Dude hit the bad beat jackpot that was up around $173,000. Everyone else at the table got at least $10,000.
The hand was quad 4's losing to qaud 8's. Both guys flopped sets. Turn was a 4. River an 8.
Bye Bye $10,000
At least it was not sitting in that seat that hit the jackpot.

There is no bad beat of the day.
It's a progressive jackpot that only hits when you lose a hand with at least quads. Pretty rare. You also must also use both of your hole cards. So if you have Let's say AQ and the flop comes QQQ with a K on the turn and K on the river and the other guy has KK. The jackpot does not cash since you did not use both your hole cards.
The 173,000 jackpot that hit today took some time to build up to that number.
The action at Harrah's last night was dead because everyone was at the Borgata since the jackpot was so high.

so how much did the guy actually get? The whole $173K, or what was left after all the other players got their 10 grand? Also did they have to fill out tax forms etc. or just get the cash on the spot?

All I know is someone at my table said the loser of the hand gets like half the jackpot, then the winner of the hand gets a certain amount....then everyone else at the table splits whats left over. I asked a floor person on my way out what the payout for the other players are the table was and he said around 10 grand.

Wow Weathered. I was there too. I was sitting at table 1, by the entrance, closest to the cashier. I was two tables away from where the bad beat hit. Did you see the drama though? There was a tenth player at the table, but he was away from the game when the bad beat hit. He came back, but he was not eligible for a slice because he wasn't dealt in. It was the guy in the Giants jersey. The guy who won the hand said that everyone should give him his cut (about $1200 from each of their prizes). Easy for him to say, because he gets his full 20% no matter what. But he's right. If I was at the table, I would've give him $1200. It's the right thing to do. If I went to the bathroom, and came back to find out the bad beat was hit, they better cut me in (if I was playing for a few hours, as this guy was). The lady at the table was saying that it's too bad for him, and she wasn't cutting him in. The guy who had the quad 8s hit her with "You're a greedy bitch." She had a male friend at the table, and he stood up and went towards the guy. Security had to intervene (they were already there though). My table was getting a fill at the time, and the floorman said, "How could these people be chopping up 170K, and be mad?" I agree. Giving that guy his cut was absolutely the right thing to do. The guy that won the pot gave the guy his whole stack (about $800). Wild scene though. People were five deep around the table, trying to see what was going on. Yeah I kinda saw what was going on but like I said I stopped paying attention since there were soooo many people crowding around the table and you could not really tell what they were all talking about. I was playing in a game were my back was toward the action going on...i was facing the tournament and high limit section, my seat was in the isle you turn left down to the bathrooms....i'm sure you know the spot i'm talking about in relation to the table the jackpot hit....I basically got tired of looking behind me to see what was going on. I saw people fighting and stuff and I saw the security come in. The guy in the Giants jersey is there everyday. I forget his name but I was talking to him about the days bases card...he loves to bet sports. He was wearing a Plaxico Burress jersey tuesday night and a Brandon Jacobs jersey yesterday. I think thats about right....someone said it was 50% to the loser but either way it's a nice chunk of cash.
I'm from Bergen County. 20 minutes or so from New York City. I was down there for a couple of days getting my Poker fix in before Football season starts and my focus turns to gambling on that.

A friend of mine who I staked in the game lost out on a bad beat because the dealer burned and turned too fast. A player threw out a bet too late, the dealer missed it, the river was an Ace, a guy hit Quad Aces with a King, my friend hit Aces full of jacks, they had to do it all over again and of course no jackpot. At the time this place had only an Aces full of J's or better beaten, jackpot was $15K.

The dealer wasn't involved at all. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure which dealer it was. It was another player at the table who refused to give the guy his cut.

I dont go to AC on a set schedule. Just when the mood hits me to play Poker. Maybe like 10 times a year thats about all.
I like Poker....dont love it.
I used to be a big time Poker player....but like anything life takes over and you can only do so much when you settle down with a wife and family so something had to give. I'm still bet Sports everyday and I play Golf (and gamble on the Golf course) about 4 times a week. So my need for action is not a problem.
