I've stayed out of the politics forum for a while now and just wanted to chime in. I think Trump will get to the magic number and be the nominee to run against Hillary. I didn't vote for Trump in the primary, the guy I voted for is now out. I cannot stand Hillary and personally think she should be facing charges related to the unsecure email handling fiasco. That being said, I do not know if I can bring myself to vote for Trump.
It baffles me to see conservatives and evangelicals supporting this guy. He has never been conservative on issues until just recently and has long supported abortion rights. I think he is a fraud and not honest on the positions he is now taking. For me personally, someone's stance on abortion is not something that would sway my vote one way or the other but for the religious right to support him is just mind boggling.
I will in no way vote for the Dem nominee, just don't know if I can once again hold my nose and vote R just to vote against Hillary. I am not alone in this thinking on the right. I think most of Bernie supporters will go over to Hillary just to keep Trump out as most Dems I know could care less about her being corrupt and as big of a liar as Trump. They will vote for her because she is a woman, a Dem and/or not Trump. I cannot believe these will be the two people we have to choose from. Sad.
Good to see you around. Many others think as you do.

The true conservatives are not his main supporters. It doesn't have as much to do with the issues. He is getting his support from the anti-establishment crowd. Similar to Sanders. Or the anti status quo, I guess.
But you are correct that the Democrats will unite behind whomever gets the nomination; whereas, the Republicans will stay home if their particular candidate doesn't win the nomination. Just as with McCain and Romney, etc.
Republicans seem to vote 'for' a candidate; Democrats don't mind voting 'against' a candidate.
I do agree that it is sad that we have these to choose from though.

Illegals will leave the country in droves... employment of AMERICANS will flourish
Trade imbalance will start to come back - for the first time in decades
I love me some Ronald Reagan for what he did, but Trump will make most forget Reagan. Trump is going to make him look lazy.
Best year of our lives are all in front of us. I cannot wait!!
I don't think Trump will be as bad as some people say but I also don't think he'll be as good as some people say.
How can you feel good about how he treated Megyn Kelly after she asked him a fair question? He unleashed his fury on her just because she did her job like she's supposed to.
If there's any one quality we don't need in someone as POTUS it's that wanting 'yes' men surrounding you so that they will only ask questions that make you look good and never ask questions that keep you honest or in check.
Even Hillary has done a decent job of at least trying to answer her tormentors who ask her about her idiotic handling of her emails. And as evil as I feel she is, I don't see her unleashing her fury on them.
She only unleashes her fury on those that could damage her career but I digress.
My point is that any true conservative would accept this trump thing dragging their feet not celebrating it without looking at his whole body of work...which is mostly good with a few really negative attributes.

Premature to declare any new President until after election is over. So far, gambling markets still favor Clinton over Trump. Such markets are usually more accurate than public polls in predicting election results.

Megyn Kelly looked more like a high class hooker, which was distracting and unprofessional. She looked like she was stealing the spotlight and Trump was putting her back in her place...

I can relate to a lot of what you're saying. It's almost like a fear factor challenge tying to not puke or give up in bringing yourself to vote for trump if he is nominee. Same could be said of Hillary too.
Purposely or not trump has made conservatives and evangelicals look like complete fools. That they have no Integrity in terms of a solid identity based on principles. Instead the whole world is watching them cause the shiny object that is presented to him. But when you have had fox "news" and other talking heads prescribing what to believe on the issues or selective temper tantrum of the day all you need is some one like trump to start talking and rounding them up.
The level of buy in that you see on this thread from trump supporters is scary. Especially with I solid track record of history, he truly is all talk and people should be at least be logically weary that he might be a fraud but as seen on this thread and else where this type of logical and realistic thinking does not seem what the GOP majority base is capable of.
I agree with you that dems and probably sanders supporters will vote for Hillary regardless of the smear campaign. That keeping out trump and not being the complete laughing stock of the whole world will be more important to Americans. I think if the GOP simply ran a viable candidate Americans would look more critically at hillarys faults and history but the problem is that instead the GOP is marching out trump that will lose and basically give us Hillary despite her faults and history.
