President Biden ends a COSTLY 20 yr war/occupation that we were immersed in under Bush administration
“Now, our 20-year military presence in Afghanistan has ended," Biden said in a statement
The U.S. toll for the war is more than 2,400 troops killed, including the 13 who died last week as they helped Afghans and Americans flee the oppressive rule of the Taliban.
The two-decade failed attempt at building a stable, secure democracy in the country cost $2 trillion by some estimates.

“Now, our 20-year military presence in Afghanistan has ended," Biden said in a statement
"Tonight's withdrawal signifies both the end of the military component of the evacuation, but also the end of the nearly 20-year mission that began in Afghanistan shortly after September 11, 2001." said Maj. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie Jr.
More than 123,000 people have been flown out of Afghanistan since Aug. 14, including about 6,000 Americans.
Biden plans to address the nation about the withdrawal Tuesday afternoon.

Amed Khan, a human rights activist and philanthropist who was in Kabul trying to evacuate as many at-risk Afghans as possible over the last several weeks, said the level of desperation in the country is “off the charts,” and he doesn’t know how it could get any worse.
“If we were to make a list of the 2,000 most important Afghans who risked their lives working with the U.S. over the last 20 years, the majority of them are still in Afghanistan," he said.
**Biden admin DEFINITELY owns some blame for this.........BUT TRUMP OWNS EVEN MORE.

Threads like this just divide people, it is not the fault of one political party or another because both parties could have exited at any time and in reality there was never a good time to exit because it was a bad situation we had no chance at being successful at.
The likely real reason we were there was because at the time the Soviets were trying to take the area and we did not want that to happen as it would have given them positioning in a region we would like to access and not be shut out of. If I recall at the time it was more of a CIA gig than the US military but then Bush I was King CIA so that makes sense as to why it would be easy for him to like the idea.
Big business won, billions and billions of dollars spent meant decades of profits for making weapons and supporting a losing proposition there. Biden or Trump or Obama or whatever never had a shot at making this be successful and exiting is also not going to be successful. Its much like Iraq that we cannot calm that area we cannot win in that area and at some point the decision has to be made if we keep spending into a black hole and losing US lives trying to keep this loser going or do you cut it and let the region decide what happens.

What is stable governance? Stable governance refers to an end state where the state provides essential services and serves as a responsible steward of state resources; government officials are held accountable through political and legal processes; and the population can participate in governance through civil society organizations, an independent media, and political parties. Stable governance is the mechanism through which the basic human needs of the population are largely met, respect for minority rights is assured, conflicts are managed peacefully through inclusive political processes, and competition for power occurs nonviolently. National and subnational government institutions may work with a range of non-state partners to provide some of the government functions. Essential services— defined here as security, the rule of law, economic governance, and basic human needs services
How could this be achieved as a occupying foriegn army? We can now partner or isolate from the new government.
260,000 adghanastanains were killed. In the 20 year conflict involving a yeminies prince bin Laden.......
Current assessments. Food clothing shelter security at risk to emergency levels.
No one trying to rebuild in a war zone no new buisness the silk road can bypass that land.
Afghanis must secure a realm of governance.
It is easier to vonwuor a country than rule in peace...ggangis Khan.

It wasn’t a mistake. If it was a mistake Ron Paul would be celebrated. Here he is on the floor in 2011.

Yes , leadership that fled in middle of the night like see you next tuesdays....arming the enemies, killing 13 service men and women who upon their arrival shows off his class and respect as the caskets go by, his plan made us look weak, untrustworthy. His plan caused the deaths... pure brillance... he will be solely responsible for the upcoming deaths of innocent people... what a leader...

joe biden ends a senseless occupation
Long overdue. Thankfully we have leadership in the WH. Trump didn't get it done of course despite his desire, but at least he praised Biden for finally getting us out.
Thank you President Biden

President Biden doing what needed to be done long ago. Tough decisions and actions must be taken as President. The situation was bound to be messy because of previous administrations. Long overdue!

There is nothing to celebrate, what are you guys celebrating? That area is awful there are so many innocent people left there who will lose their lives because we kept the extremists from ruling over the innocent and now all that is left are sides that will kill each other and all those around them due to the difference of political and especially religious views.
There is nothing to celebrate, there is no applause for Biden or Trump or Ron Paul or anyone, this is a lose lose lose situation that maybe we went in for military positioning reasons but now its an even worse hot bed for death and abuse.
Stop with the partisan back slapping and think of more than just your political position...this is an awful situation. Trump never wanted to make the decision that tarnished his image and he rarely seemed to go against the GOP military establishment, so he would never have shut it down but it is not an action that Biden is happy about I am sure of that.

Whether trump withdrew in May as he promised or Biden withdrew in August as he promised, either way we were getting out this year, finally.
Never should have been occupying that country in the first place.
