I do not recall at that time that there was a push to exit back during Obama and likely because of this very issue..its a mess and it is not a winnable exit or a winnable position to stay in. So for sure nobody could see how we could exit and we are seeing why that is right in front of our faces.
Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush they all know it is just a bad situation and the high odds that if an exit came it would lead to bad results and in a way it also means we lost again...and who wants to do that?
There is nothing to celebrate here...

Whether trump withdrew in May as he promised or Biden withdrew in August as he promised, either way we were getting out this year, finally.
Never should have been occupying that country in the first place.
Yep. Both facts.
As I stated before, any true patriot agreed we had valid reason to go in there to try and get Bin Laden and subdue/eradicate the Al-Queda terrorist network responsible for 9/11 (not the the Taliban per se) However, to my knowledge NOBODY agreed to or voted for 20 year OCCUPATION/nation-building at US expense. Nor 10 years. Nor 5 years. In fact, the mantra at the time was to NOT get bogged down in VIETNAM part II.

Agree w wall st , w the caveat the fact that the presidents knew it was a lose lose should have dictated a much earlier withdrawal. Look at LBJ and Vietnam …. He knew it was a lose lose very early and made the wrong decision to stay. Subsequent presidents should have learned that lesson. I think u have to give Biden credit cuz he was the only 1 w the stones to do it and celebrate may be the wrong word but at least we r out of somewhere we should have never been. Also, having said that we must also acknowledge that Biden botched the pullout by listening to military advisors that the Afghan govt wouldn’t cave in a week

Good points.
Obama made a mistake there even though his VP at that time (Joe Biden) was opposed to a military surge and also wanted the US to pullout.
Of course none of that would have been necessary had the republicans under the Bush admin immersed into nation-building and a never ending war.

They have such a low understanding of the political arena that they don’t understand that Biden and Bush are on the same team.
Biden was George Bush’s top ally. The Bush administration even had a private phone installed in Biden’s residence when they teamed up to gather support for the Iraq invasion.
Democrats even prop up Cheney’s daughter.

Funny how Democrats talk about “the Republicans”.

I guess you didnt get his point then if that is your reply. He is saying both sides are equally toxic they work together for something bad like this and that is true.
Biden has played both sides and every side, he is not clean by any measure and nobody can dispute that.

and u r right that any subsequent wars should have learned a lesson from that mistake . sadly they did not

Biden did vote to support the Attack on Iraq. However, the USA should not occupy a country for 20 years and expect worldwide support for our arrogant, abusive and intrusive foreign policy.
If Afghanistani troops had occupied the United States, guerilla warfare would have ensued. Some Americans undoubtedly would have been so enraged that they'd be willing to shoot them in the back and/or bomb them while they sleep, and it wouldn't have taken 20 years for that response.
American governments - Republican, Democratic or other - should not behave as if it's 1946. It's high time we stop trying to control so many countries by military or financial means. They don't like it and neither would we.
