New poll: Gun violence surpasses opioid crisis as #1 public health concern!
MSN - The latest Axios-Ipsos American Health Index was published Thursday. 26% of those surveyed said access to guns is the current greatest threat to U.S. public health. Back in February, that number was just 17%. Meanwhile, concern about opioids and fentanyl sits at 25%.
Welp, given the record spate of mass shootings so far this year, I am not that surprised.
Democrats are trying (not fantastic, but they are trying) to resolve the issue or significantly lessen the impact.
Cpmgressional republicans are refusing to do anything and blocking all Democrat efforts to help.

Easy to agree that democrats see problems and offer solutions. Whereas republicans ignore problems and oppose solutions. In recent years, guns have become the leading cause of death for children according to Center for disease control. Failing to keep children alive reveals a failure of civilization test in the US because countries are judged by how well they treat the most vulnerable. Even for all age groups, US mortality rates tend to be higher when compared to other rich nations.

New York Post falsely reported that homeless veterans were kicked out of hotels to make room for "illegals"
MEDIA MATTERS - Right-wing media figures - including several from Fox News - amplified a now-debunked New York Post story to demonize immigrants and attack Democratic lawmakers.
Without verified evidence, the conservative New York Post published a bogus story alleging that a group of 20 homeless military veterans had been “evicted” from two upstate New York hotels to make room for asylum-seeking immigrants. The Post claimed the supposed migrants were part of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ plans to secure temporary housing for immigrants entering the city.
After the New York Post published its story, local NY media outlet the Mid Hudson News spoke with hotel management and service providers the Post claimed were involved in the "alleged" removals... However, on May 18, that paper reported that not only had no homeless veterans been removed, but they were never there to begin with!!! — one hotel manager “had never heard of” the veteran's group supposedly involved, while another said it “had not put any veterans in the hotel for ‘a long time.’”

continued...republican FRAUD!
The report also discredited a receipt presented by republican State Assemblyman Brian Maher as supposed evidence that the group representing the homeless veterans had paid for the rooms.
The Post later reported that the group’s longtime advocate had lied to the newspaper about the entire situation, and the Mid Hudson News uncovered that 15 homeless men were actually paid for fraud, to pretend they were veterans who had been staying at the hotel and wrongly evicted for migrants by Democrats.

Fox News to pay $12 million to former producer who accused the network of rampant sexism
CNN —
Fox News will pay $12 million to settle a pair of major lawsuits brought by former producer Abby Grossberg, her lawyer said Friday.
Grossberg had accused Fox News of pressuring her into giving false testimony in Dominion Voting Systems’ historic defamation case against the network, and of fostering a deeply misogynist workplace. She had sued Fox News, its parent company, former primetime host Tucker Carlson and several senior executives.

Donald J Trump suggested the injection of disinfectant inside to clean the virus ... Still, 63% trusted him for medical advice. Ironically, political ideology makes people unfathomable and mindless.
your last sentence stands out applicable today as it did back then . but even more so now . both sides for sure !!!! but much worse on the maga-morons side in public media all over the country

We definitely live in a reverse world in which people can watch an event happen right in front of their own eyes, even on Fox news, and still deny it is happening like with January 6th.
@DeezyAZ81
Bingo! Stubburn ultra partisanship with blinders on.
And yes, to some degree, both sides do it.
I have noted that many times on this forum. There's no denying that.
However, just like a 56 - 10 score late in the 3rd Q of a college game, a person could rightly state a fact that "BOTH SIDES ARE SCORING!!!" .... but clearly such a statement also creates/implies a perception which is a false equivalency.
Indeed, that while the statement "both sides do it" can factually be applied to most facets within the political arena, empirically it is rarely equal. Those who insist it is equalon both sidesare usually deadpan ignorant of the facts.
The denialism of damning/incriminating (or just embarrassing) facts on a wide variety of issues **is far more prevalent** on the MAGA-cult side than those who oppose "MAGA-trump-fascism" all across news media and social media.

Fox colleagues disgusted at Gutfeld’s "useful" person jab
Fox News anchor Greg Gutfeld has been awash with rightfull criticism after he said that Jewish people "had to be useful" in order to survive the Holocaust during Monday's broadcast of the network's top show, "The Five."
Fox News staffers and insiders told The Daily Beast that the remarks were a "disgusting thing" for its resident "comedian" to say, adding that "at any other place, his career would be over."
Gutfeld made the comment while defending Florida's new and controversial history education curriculum, which will endeavor to teach children that slavery provided Black Americans with "personal benefit" by helping them develop skills.

Jill Wine-Banks, a prosecutor in the Watergate scandal, on Thursday described the latest allegations against the disgraced Donald Trump in the classified documents case as “a blockbuster.”
Special counsel Jack Smith on Thursday brought three new felony charges against Trump in his investigation into the former president’s mishandling of top-secret materials after he left the White House.
“It reminded me first of all how powerful the original indictment was, and with this added information, it is absolutely a blockbuster,” Wine-Banks told MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
It “reminds me of what happened in Watergate,” she continued. “The obstruction, the concealment, a cover-up, it’s all happening.”

On Capitol Hill, the GOP is advancing an appropriations bill that would gut funding for federal environmental agencies, mandate additional oil and gas lease sales both onshore and offshore, torpedo protections for wild animals, and rescind more than $9 billion provided by the Inflation Reduction Act, President Joe Biden’s signature climate law passed last year.
Right-wing groups recently crafted a 920-page “battle plan” — dubbed Project 2025 — to guide a future Republican administration in dismantling environmental regulations and stymying federal climate action.

Increasing the production of planet-warming fossil fuels, inevitably driving temperatures even higher, and then escaping that heat with an inefficient air conditioner — that’s the future the GOP is fighting for.

Right-wing groups recently crafted a 920-page “battle plan” — dubbed Project 2025 — to guide a future Republican administration in dismantling environmental regulations and stymying federal climate action.
Republicans say energy efficiency is a bad idea??
HUFFPOST - Meanwhile, the Republican Party is attacking the Biden administration’s effort to make home appliances, including air conditioners and dishwashers, more efficient. Fox News and other right-wing media have dubbed the federal effort as Biden’s “war on appliances.”
HUFFPOST - continued...
Increasing the production of planet-warming fossil fuels, inevitably driving temperatures even higher, and then escaping that heat with an inefficient air conditioner — that’s the future the GOP is fighting for.
Phoenix just endured the hottest month for any US city as historic heat streak comes to an end
CNN —
One of the most exceptional heat streaks in US history finally ended Monday when Phoenix’s high temperature peaked under 110 degrees Fahrenheit for the first time in a month - a cumulative toll that has catapulted the city to the top of the record books.
But the heat is far from over for Phoenix and millions of others across the Central US.
Tuesday’s high temperature was 108 degrees in Phoenix!!
The 31 consecutive days at 110 degrees or above broke the previous record by 18 days!!
It wasn’t just high daytime temperatures breaking records: The city also set a new record warm low temperature of 97 degrees during the streak! With temperatures warming up to extreme highs and hardly cooling down overnight, July averaged a record-shattering 102.7 degrees for the month, the hottest month on record for any US city, let alone Phoenix, according to the office of the Arizona State Climatologist.
