Wow......how did Hirono get a seat in that room? ACB trying to explain things to her like she's speaking to a 5yo.
Sen. Whitehouse spent 30 mins. accusing the GOP of being funded by "dark money" ...........Cruz destroyed him in 5 mins.

Nice try, Harris........but you should've aimed the 1st part of your diatribe at Nancy Pelosi. That old hag is probably more responsible than anyone as to why there hasn't been a 2nd relief bill passed. The 2nd part could be filed with the Dept. of Redundancy Dept. And your attempt at trying to bully Barrett into answers was weak. This person is a superior intellect to you & Joe, & Trump for that matter.

OK.....Cornyn's questions to Barrett just clarified why she can't comment/speculate on hypothetical or current issues. Let's see if the Dem senators, at least from here on, get that.

Thanks to Sen. Cruz for pointing out that, according to the Kaiser Foundation, healthcare premiums for the avg. American family went up almost $8000/year under Owebamacare..........something the dems never mention.

Gotta hand it to Klobuchar......her willingness to embarrass herself knows no boundaries.

Really...
In the past I did not take you for a blanket generalization kind of guy. What you just posted is absurd because you only emphasize a teeny bit of information to a multi decade long problem. So congrats on making a really dumb comment with zero context.
So pre-Obamacare how did premiums/benefits lets just say net impact on the consumer fare for lets say the last 20 years? It has zippo to do with Obamacare, but hey I dont think that sounds as sexy as a really lame political poke.
Pointing fingers at the government when the culprit is the corporations who pollute the same politicians is fascinating. Oh and what exactly has the big boy suggested that he actually attempted to do for his first term? If you are going to attack a party then come with a solution from YOURS.

A few things....this isnt about MY party and who has control over the process? Its a gridlock at best situation and this isnt something that started with Obama. Most every DEM has tried to reform healthcare but the problem isnt the program...so Universal Healthcare or Obamacare or whatever the crap you want to call it care...that is not the issue. The concept of having care and mandating it isnt the end of the world, Medicare serves a huge slice of the population and Medicaid does as well...so the idea isnt a BAD idea. The issue is politicians are paid and are in office to NOT address the core of the problem because corps/lobbyists/special interest groups pay their way and thus own them...so what is really needed cannot happen and will not happen.
Healthcare inflation has outpaced CPI since you and I were kids, so why the petty stupid slam on Obamacare? The concept/idea is the right thing to do but it does not address the core root of costs. Instead of childish blaming and insults on a politician why not actually come with something better or a solution that your side has offered (which is zero)? No you just want to play partisan pattycake and hope a few of your comrades will like your post.
Sad really...its immature and serves zero purpose. If Obamacare had never existed the examples you gave would still exist...gee I wonder why that is?

I agree wholeheartedly with the first part of your post.........universal healthcare isn't a bad idea at all. The problem is the politicians, etc., & the fact that everyone is out to make a buck........& to cover that, it will cost all of us, some more than others.......& I doubt that will ever cease. The ACA was/is just an example.......I don't hate every part of it. The idea was sound, & it was the first model to come out. It benefited many but also hurt many.......both in comparison to pre-ACA.
Now, as far as my petty slam on Owebamacare .......what makes it petty? My monthly premiums doubled but I was fortunate to be in an employee plan that was very affordable where a couple hours of OT each month would cover the difference. But that wasn't the case for a couple of friends. To them, the results were anything but "petty". Perhaps, like a lot of things the gov't. promises, it was misrepresented, & then implemented before it was ready. But no, I don't have an answer........& I doubt that whatever Trump proposes will be "the answer" either.
Am I really being immature? Maybe. Perhaps it's a reaction to a lot that goes on in this forum. It might be an indictment on this forum in general. You were right about something you directed at me in another thread.......I should be bigger than that.......sometimes I don't have that ability.

The reason why your premiums went up in your situation is akin to the spread of a stock in the stock market. If a stock has few or no market makers creating a market, the spread between bid and ask will be HUGE...if in the opposite the spread can be 5 places of a decimal as we see. The issue is the players in the HC market were not active in many markets and thus pricing was way off vs if everyone were participating. It is common news that some insurers tried to participate and backed off, some didnt try at all. The margins for products were not motivating enough so there was little to no market for pricing.
When you have two different economic categories in the same pool and they are not agreeing then mispricing happens and the consumer gets hit. Big names did not want to take the risk so if you were in the group that needed coverage and in the middle of either employer based (which is a huge pool) or government (medicare, gov employees etc) then you were really out in the wind.
I remember a few years ago that I needed a healthcare plan and was not going to get employer sponsored so i went out and got a plan on my own...this was 15 yrs ago...my premiums doubled, my copay, deductible and tangible benefit got cracked...it was terrible. The problem is people do not want to pay for anything that they feel is not directly related to them....so if we mandated that private firms were forced to make a market then that would shift cost to other employer plans to offset the risk...common biz practice and NOBODY wants that. Everyone likes the idea of healthcare coverage but not if it impacts them in a negative way.

I understand the gist of it but I appreciate your analogy. At the time of implementation, I was only loosely paying attention to it. As I said, it didn't kill me........my coworkers & I of course bitched about it initially but it was a fact of life that our costs went up. It wasn't til I heard of a couple instances where, due to some plans just backing out of particular markets/categories/etc., my friends got hit hard that I took serious notice.

Under questioning from Sen. Booker, Judge Barrett refused to answer whether separating children from their parents at the border was wrong. She says it's a matter of "hot political debate."
Really? Congress enabled this racist policy of Jeff Sessions and this administration go uncontested.
Hot political debate? C'mon lady...

I found this hearing both intriguing & disturbing. I didn't plan on watching this fiasco, but waddya gonna do in October when it's raining? Barrett is a class person with an encyclopedic mind for the law. She was impressive, arguably(?) the smartest person in the room. But some of the attacks on her were pathetic & redundant.
Sorry for hijacking your thread, detox.
