Congress passes $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, delivering major win for Biden
The BIPARTISAN infrastructure bill would provide:
• $110 billion for roads and bridges. More than 45,000 bridges nationwide are rated in poor condition. The bill also includes $16 billion for major projects that are too large or complex for traditional funding.
• $66 billion for Amtrak for passenger and freight rail. The bill aims to eliminate Amtrak’s maintenance backlog and to modernize the Northeast Corridor.
• $65 billion to expand broadband internet access. The White House estimated as many as 40 million Americans lack broadband access.
• $65 billion to rebuild the electric grid with renewable energyand thousands of miles of new power lines. • $55 billion to upgrade water systems, with a goal of replacing the country’s lead service pipes.
HUGE for creating more jobs.
• $42 billion for airports, waterways and port infrastructure. (Airports would receive $25 billion)
• $39 billion for public transit. The bill aims to repair and upgrade transit systems and make stations more accessible to elderly and passengers with disabilities.
• $7.5 billion for charging stations for electric vehicles
• and $7.5 billion for electric buses.
WH press secretary Jen Psaki added by tweet:
" Proof that delivering for the American people is worth all the painful sausage making. Clean drinking water for kids, broadband access, electric vehicles, biggest investment in public transit. It’s happening. And more to come."

Good news indeed. Finally, Biden bill gets a historic win in largest US infrastructure investment in over a decade. Largest investment in transportation in US history. Sorely needed since US infrastructure system earned a C- score from American society of engineers earlier this year. S&G global system estimates bill could boost US economy over the next 8 years.
We need this big time. Much work needs to be done. It will still be months before projects actually get underway but planning all across the country can begin now and that is critical to success.
Definitely a boost to the economy.

The Former Guy could have passed the infrastructure bill any time he wanted.
He promised to do so.
Instead, he thought billionaire tax cuts were way more important.
Relevent excerpts from trump's 2017 inaugural address:
"We spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay....From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first...I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never, EVER, let you down! America will start winning again, winning like never before. We will build new roads and highways and bridges and airports and tunnels and railways all across our wonderful nation."
*So, where's all this wonderful rebuilt infrastructure that trump promised nearly 5 years ago? trump and his accomplices did phuck all. trump team declared an "infrastrructure week" every year until it became a "laugh out loud" joke.
Monday November 15, Joe Biden signed it into law.

US tribes see hope for clean water in Biden's infrastructure bill
The coronavirus pandemic, which disproportionately hit Indian Country, further underscored the stark disparities in access to running water and sewage systems.
A 2019 report by a pair of nonprofit groups, U.S. Water Alliance and Dig Deep, found Native American homes are 19 times more likely than white households to lack full plumbing. And federal officials note tribal members without indoor toilets or running water are at increased risk of respiratory tract, skin and gastrointestinal infections.

It appears clear now that the infrastructure bill will be the last major legislation the current white house will see passed until early 2025. As bad as things seem now, it will only get worse over the next 3 full years without more helpful legislation. As long as one party is intent on blocking absolutely everything, then we all suffer and regress rather than move forward.

After January 6 attack, bill aims to help families of police officers who die by suicide
(CNN) Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D) is introducing legislation aimed at helping families of fallen law enforcement officers qualify for benefits if the officers die by suicide after experiencing trauma as a result of their work, an issue that has taken on new urgency in the aftermath of last year's January 6 attack on the US [incited by Trump]
The bill is also intended to help officers qualify for disability if they suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder because of their job.
The issue of law enforcement officer deaths by suicide has received renewed attention over the past year after responding officers endured harrowing violence when a pro-Trump mob attacked the US Capitol. Four officers took their own lives in the aftermath of the attack.
*ed, Will republican-trump-worshippers scoff at this too like they did for American voting rights?

Do you think they have no money for infrastructure without additional bills being passed?
