Christianity does have violent aspects to it if followed literally. The Old Testament is definitely not a children's book. Christian's would be spending their days killing g@y people if they followed the bible literally. 

Again, I think it has to do with the interpretation of the text and the intensity in which people practice their religion. The less, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
