South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem signed a bill into law Thursday that bans transgender girls and college-aged women from playing on female high school and college sports teams. It is the first state to enact a transgender athlete restriction this year, according to the Associated Press.

"This bill is about fairness," Noem said at a press conference. "It's about allowing biological females in their sex to compete fairly in a level playing field that gives them opportunities for success."

ed note, I agree with this!   It's reasonable to me.  This is *NOT* a liberal/conservative issue.  It is about fairness in sports.  As long as the transgender woman (born male!) is still WELCOME to challenge for places on "male" teams I am fully supportive.

Republican bill that would have overhauled elections in Arizona -- including giving the state legislature the power to reject election results -- proved to be too much even for state GOP leaders this week.
The legislation would have made several significant changes to the battleground state's election procedures, such as mandating that voting occur only on Election Day and in person. It would have eliminated early voting and the state's widely popular vote-by-mail program.
