More oil supply could stop massive price spikes. But US producers won’t fill that gap
New York CNN Business —
Oil prices are soaring to seven-year highs, but don’t expect US oil producers to ramp up supply. And other major producers like Saudi Arabia have indicated they won’t fill the global supply gap.
Several issues are stopping U.S. companies from scaling up production. Like many industries during the pandemic, oil producers are struggling with a shortage of workers.
They’re also having big trouble sourcing some of the critical equipment they would need to ramp up production, including pipes and specialized sand used in fracking to extract shale oil.
“They can’t find people, and can’t find equipment,” said Robert McNally, president of consulting firm Rapidan Energy Group. “It’s not like they’re available at a premium price. They’re just NOT available.”
As a result, US oil production is just under 12 million barrels a day, 8% lower than in 2019. Experts say the industry is unlikely to get back to that pre-pandemic level this year.
**Based on those facts, obviously everything is Joe Biden's fault....

Former Obama economic adviser Robert Wolf: "[Keystone XL] wasn't really going to change anything to do with our oil supply. It was to export from the Gulf of Mexico."

Jurors heard the audio recordings on Thursday of the four men charged with plotting to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, during which one of the men specifically discusses a plan to abduct the Democratic Governor of Michigan because they were angry about the statewide pandemic restrictions she had imposed.
If these clowns get a life sentence, it isn't long enough.

China's daily cases of symptomatic COVID more than triple
China is facing its worst COVID crisis since early 2020 orders 51 million into lockdown as omicron surges
The epicenter of the omicron variant outbreak is the Northeastern Jilin province, and Shenzhen, the southern tech hub.
Authorities announced on Monday afternoon that all 24 million people in Jilin province would go into lockdown, including the previously locked down city of Changchun.
On Sunday, China ordered all of Shenzhen’s 17.5 million residents into a seven-day lockdown, with three rounds of testing. All public transport is halted and all businesses, except essential services, will be closed until March 20.
The lockdown and outbreaks threaten manufacturing and tech production in Shenzhen, known as China’s Silicon Valley. It’s home to Huawei and Tencent, and is home to one of the country’s key ports.
**NOTE: if any prices rise HERE as a result of China's lockdown and supply-chain issues, guess who trump-worshippers on TV and social media will relentlessly blame for those increases....

Disney will cease its political donations in Florida due to the state’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The CEO apologized for the company’s silence. FINALLY!
Florida is going backwards against trend toward greater acceptance of gay minority in more civilized countries. In the 1970s and 1980s, states introduced homophobic laws but many have long been repealed. Now recognized is that discrimination against gay minority is similar to discrimination of racial and other harmless minorities in the past.

Ohio governor just signed a law to remove permit requirements for concealing guns. No training, no background check and no license required. In more liberal areas of the US (and everywhere else in the world) the idea that any adult can carry a gun around would seem insane. There are reasons why US has more gun problems than other countries.

Remember the Maryland couple that tried to sell US submarine secrets only to get caught by the FBI? The country had been undisclosed. Until now. It wasn’t a close ally like France. It wasn’t an adversary like Russia.
It was Brazil per the NYT.

Swalwell cut all his ties to Fang after he was alerted by the FBI to the investigation, according to Axios, and there is no publicly available evidence Swalwell knew or suspected Fang was working for Beijing, nor is there evidence Fang broke any laws through her fundraising.
In 2013, Fang worked to fundraise for then-U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), and was even featured on a flyer for one of Gabbard’s fundraising events.
No blood no foul.

The sponsor of Idaho's new abortion ban, Republican Rep. Steven Harris, confirmed *on the floor of the House* that if a rapist impregnates his victim, the rapist's siblings can sue the doctor that terminates the pregnancy—and collect $20,000 each.
Great...let's turn a victim's family into bounty hunters.

Freedom is being eroded in republican states. By deputizing private individuals instead of government to enforce anti-abortion laws, this prevent federal court from stopping it. The devastating part is that biased supreme court allows this unconstitutional law to remain. Women who need abortions must travel to other states.

They are making voting more difficult especially for minorities too. Republicans used to be the vanguards of American freedoms. Obviously not any more.

Wonder what Justice Thomas & his wife Ginni think about that comment?

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — They had barely a week to prepare — getting medical screenings, making sure bills would be paid, arranging for relatives to care for children and pets — before marching with rucksacks and rifles onto a plane bound for Germany.
"It's been very hectic and stressful, but overall it's worked out," Army Staff Sgt. Ricora Jackson said Wednesday as she waited with dozens of fellow soldiers to board a chartered flight at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.
They're among 3,800 troops from the 1st Armored Brigade of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division, based at nearby Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia, ordered to deploy quickly and bolster U.S. forces in Europe after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
In all, the Pentagon has ordered about 12,000 service members from various U.S. bases to Europe, with a couple of thousand more already stationed abroad shifting to other European countries.
The soldiers' mission overseas is to train alongside military units of NATO allies in a display of force aimed at deterring further aggression by Russia. It's not that different from the role the brigade played last year during a scheduled rotation in South Korea

As if we didn't have enough to worry about: Some scientists are warning about the inevitable catastrophic effects on modern life from a super-sized solar storm.
These outbursts from the sun, which eject energy in the form of magnetic fields and billions of tons of plasma gas known as "coronal mass ejections," are unpredictable and difficult to anticipate.
The Earth suffers a devastating direct hit every century or two, according to recent analysis of scientific data and historic accounts. In the past, these were mainly celestial events with spectacular aurora light shows but scant impact on humanity. Modern technology, however, is vulnerable to the shocks from extreme solar storms.
"It's not as rare as an asteroid or a comet hitting the Earth, but it's something that really needs to be dealt with by policymakers," said Daniel Baker, distinguished professor of planetary and space physics at the University of Colorado. "Certainly, in the longer term, it's not a question of if but when."
Astrophysicists estimate the likelihood of a solar storm capable of causing catastrophe to be as high as 12% in a decade.
"It's just a matter of time," according to professor Raimund Muscheler, chair of quaternary sciences in the geology department of Lund University in Sweden. "One has to be aware of it and one has to calculate the risks and be prepared as much as possible."
A new study of ancient ice samples conducted by the Swedish scientist concludes that a previously unknown, huge solar storm about 9,200 years ago would have crippled communications if it had hit Earth in modern times.
