Thought I get this thread going since the Republicans are voting on another replace/repeal type vote today. No CBO score for this one? Preexisting conditions are on the chopping block this time around. What's the point of health insurance if covering preexisting conditions is too expensive for the average american? At some point ... many of us will develop some bullsh*t disease we don't want and the insurance companies can jack up your premiums to the point you can't afford it? Yeah, that's the insurance I want.

It's great that I have a good job that provides good coverage, and that I don't need to rely on the government for medical.
We all know that everything the government runs operates smoothly like a well-oiled machine.
I feel sorry for you gents that really need this.
I know plenty of petrochemical engineers, oil/gas traders/analysts that have lost their "good jobs" in the downturn of the oil market TWICE within the last 10 years. Not to mention equity analysts, brokers and traders in the financial sector that lost their "good jobs" in the downturn of the stock market. Just because one has a good job today doesn't guarantee sh*t for tomorrow. That's why it's important to think about the consequences of the new healthcare bill even if it doesn't apply to you today because there are no guarantees down the road. Why not think about it as if you needed this particular healthcare system/insurance for you and your family? If more people thought of this as if it applied to them ... something so cruel as not providing reasonable/affordable healthcare for people with preexisting health conditions wouldn't even be a consideration.

Hardest hit group under this GOP health replace bill is age 50-64 with medium to low income people. GOP risks huge stake at 2018 midterm election, those people who get hurt by this bill will show up on the votes in 2018.

People who drop out of health insurance will have tough time in their life, both emotionally and financially. Huge health care cost has been the number 1 reason for the persons who filed bankruptcies for years, especially if a low income age 60 senior can't afford the health insurance under this GOP health plan.

By the way ... the new healthcare bill also affects EMPLOYER based healthcare now.
Under the new bill if your employer is based in a state that enacts the waiver for essential benefits, the employer can now chose to purchase health insurance without those benefits leaving you guys high and dry like the folks on the new govt sponsored healthcare insurance. So will your state ask the waiver to save money? And will your employer now purchase health insurance with reduced coverage to save them money? I feel sorry for the people that have employer based health insurance and thought they were immune to this new healthcare bill only to find out they could get screwed too. Welcome to the club.

I understand what you're saying Cave.
I'm fortunate enough to work as an accountant for a Not-for-Profit org that has always taken care of its employees.
You are absolutely right that this could affect me in future years, but if it doesn't concern me now and is completely out of my control, why sweat over it?
I'm blessed that I'm healthy in my early thirties with great job security.
I know this is going to affect a lot of Americans and I'm happy that I don't have to stress over it.

this garbage won't pass congress although some version of it might. anyway, for now, it sounds like the only way to avoid getting f*cked by this thing (if you aren't in the 2%) passed by congress is to become a member of congress.

Funny watching the two sides in this very thread and the stark differences between what points are made and what seems to matter regarding this situation.
One side seems to think that since their house isnt on fire who cares about anyone but themselves and they are lucky...and some are pointing fingers at the previous plan in place and faulting it for the ills of healthcare.
This is ridiculous and pathetic, life is not only about you and your costs and your health because believe me if you paid proportionally based on NEED, when that time comes (and it will) you would be smashed like a bug...so yeah hurray I dont have costs when I am 25 and 30, that does not mean you are not living in a society where people are not as lucky and not as young, and UNLIKE some moron repub said that bad health isnt only from bad lifestyle, sometimes things happen and it has nothing to do with what you did or didnt do.
Thinking of others to some is a negative, thinking of more than yourself to some is a mindset many do not have...
Obamacare is not failing because it was named Obamacare and the low class are leeching off you smug middle class elitists, Obamacare is failing because healthcare has been failing for two plus decades. The name on the plan means nothing, the sponsor of the plan has nothing to do with its failure. The reasons for healthcare ills are not being addressed, that or we are not understanding that costs cannot be contained because we allow corps to bleed the US consumer and we have too much for profit in this sector AND the litigation problems make insurance premiums for doctors so high they cannot keep up.
Oh and some of the repub turned democrats who are aging and realizing how guys like slob think CHANGES as you age, and they have not properly funded their retirement/healthcare needs...so the system now is absorbing some major demographic shifts and it cannot handle these shocks.

Republicans have the majority in both House and Senate, this Bill will get to the Senate in short order. Looks like another cake walk for the GOP in the Senate, bless the people who will lose their health insurances from this Bill, either drop out or can not afford the steep premium.

I think most would feel the same way if they were in my shoes.
You make me sound like a callous @sshole. Hahahaha

I'm glad you have great health insurance via your employer. I don't wish expensive/unaffordable/lack of coverage/etc ... on anybody. That being said I'm assuming your nonprofit organization has a traditional group health plan. I suggest you read carefully what I wrote earlier regarding state waivers and the effects on employer based health insurance. This obviously includes nonprofit organizations if they have purchased traditional group health insurance for their employees. Nonprofit groups are not treated differently from for profit organizations regarding this matter. Obviously this is all IF the new healthcare bill passes 'as is' by the Senate.

this thing isn't passing the senate as is. first, the cbo score will come out in a week and it'll probably be a disaster and get a lot of publicity. second, the house is filled with a lot of bad people, a lot of really f*cking stupid people, a lot of people who would run over their grandmother to get a quarter on the other side of the street and a lot of people who are very vulnerable if a donor bails out and once the freedom caucus is on board, many of them need to get in line or risk the loss of a donor source when they have no other real means of raising money. equally important, many of these people come from districts that are gerrymandered to the nth fuckign degree so they are safe no matter what. also, it's easier to hide in the house when you are one vote out of 200+ that passed this thing.
the senate is different in many ways.
i'm not sure anyone's even really seen this law so that needs to happen and we'll see what kind of publicity that gets. and then the cbo rating. senators will be watching what this thing really looks like and the perception of it the next couple of weeks (while the house goes on yet another vacation) and that will tell them if they can change it and salvage some parts of it or it will die in the senate. but no way it goes through as is or close to as is.

You come off as one when you are so judgemental and narrow minded.
It takes one second to go from having to needing, from health to not...life changes and so does our perspective.
You are going to end up being one of those takers you know...when you are not at this job and you need coverage when you get older or have a family, or something happens to actually need something. Dont be so quick to look down on others who are different or not as lucky as you.
Even when I was a bit younger I didnt think like you do, part of the reason you have this job and this coverage is because of the very society you are criticizing and looking down on...dont think that you are some special person and above the peons because for sure tomorrow you could be in a completely different situation and maybe then your perspective might alter a bit.

So you inferred that I'm being looking down on people and being condescending even though I said that "I am fortunate to have coverage" and that "I feel sorry for you you gents that have to rely on this." (implying empathy)?
You took it wrong way and that's fine. I was just making a point that I can't do anything about it as it's completely out of my control and yours as well. So it's kind of fruitless for me to stress over it. I also stated that Cave was "absolutely right that this could affect me in future years."
I didn't intend to offend you or anyone on this board. I was just making a comment and it kind of took off from there.

Congrats...... And if you do turn blue they might as well just put you in the ground because you won't be able to afford the medical bills unless you're a multi-millionaire

How have we done for the previous 20 yrs with this moronic kind of thinking?
Do you think yanking Obamacare will do anything to change the problems we have in healthcare?
I guess its one of those repub ideas of blame the democrats and look the other way, that if you dont see someone struggling then there is nobody actually struggling.
Smart...

Health care is an impossible issue for this country.....Everybody wants great health care at a low cost or none at all.....Americans in poverty on average already enjoy among the best health care in the world and they pay little or nothing.....Its not a perfect system its better than most...Under any system the same principal applies...The people with money must buy their own insurance as well as pay into the poverty pool.....The more they have to pay in, the better healthcare the poor will have.

Most people will never have a job that's good enough to guarantee them quality medical care. Oh, I forget I'm living in an alternate reality and everyone thinks that the average citizen in the U.S. gets a great job with hard work, determination and persistence. They should probably try to fix healthcare because too many U.S. citizens are going to need it in the future. Did everyone forget how backed up emergency rooms were and how hospitals were having major problems dealing with it? Whatever. I'm of the belief that people need hard, stark lessons in order to learn so I'd rather see the public trust Trump and Republicans. I already know that's a grave mistake so good luck with it!
