Washington (CNN)US intelligence agencies assessed that Iran offered bounties to Taliban fighters for targeting American and coalition troops in Afghanistan
The decision was made in March not to take specific action as officials did not want to jeopardize the peace process with the Taliban, according to multiple sources familiar.
The lack of public condemnation of Iran or the Taliban and the decision not to pursue a diplomatic or military response also highlights the administration's apparent desire to protect peace talks with the Taliban -- which culminated in an agreement that was signed in February -- at all costs with the goal of helping Trump fulfill his long-stated campaign promise of removing American troops from Afghanistan.

A bipartisan group of House lawmakers who want to stop President Donald Trump from pulling U.S. troops from military conflicts and overseas bases are using a once-unusual tactic that has in the last three years become Congress’ go-to tool.
Lawmakers from the Senate and the House have in the last three years sought to use legislation to prevent the president from pulling troops from Afghanistan, Syria, South Korea, and now Germany — unless the administration certifies that a withdrawal will not harm U.S. or allied interests.
Here is the real headline. Trump wants to bring troops home from Afghanistan but the SWAMP does everything they can to put our troops in harms way so the FAKE NEWS can blame Trump.

BIPARTISAN = SWAMP
How again would a withdrawal harm the U.S. soldiers?

First it was the Russians paying bounties to kill Americans which trump chose to let slide, and now he's done it AGAIN!
US intelligence indicates Iran paid "bounties"

I'm not laughing at Americans being killed ..only at your bogus claim that they were killed by Iranian and Russian bounties..Without some proof of either of these countries killing Americans for bounties..otherwise more fabricated news..
..and who is now that is offering bounties to kill Americans ..is it the Iranians in the thread title or the Russsia ,Russia ,Russians ?
Unless you have new information to share with the forum that they did this ..these are suspected bounties..and made-up old news...

What makes this so hard to believe Slim? Do you think the military provided phony intelligence?
Since I believe you are the only person in this forum who believes this reporting is bogus, please explain to everyone why you don't believe the claims.

An example of a republican apparently laughing at American soldiers being killed in part, and possibly specifically, from bounties paid by countries to the Taliban -- which trump ignores because it would undermine his claim that he made peace with the Taliban
liberals and moderates dont laugh because Americans r being killed by russian backed and iranian backed bounty hunters but everyone has their right to express their views regardless how ugly

I don't have to prove something didn't happen ..when the burden of proof is on the accuser making the claim..that it happened.

Well, I know you can't prove it but I asked you 2 questions as to why you think the claims are bogus & if you think the military provided phony intelligence in the presidents daily briefing.

Just who was it that annointed you the position of "the questions man" around here ?
Nevertheless ,,I never said the military provided phony intelligence in the presidents daily briefing nor did I say claims are bogus...
What I will say is the claims are uncorroborated...

Yes. It doesn't happen very often but this one is important to all.

Wrong again...there is financial data proving this took place naming an Afghan middleman who has suddenly disappeared. The Russians are great with having people disappear. This information was in the president's daily briefing which he fails to read. It was again brought to his attention but he denies any knowledge of the situation. If there wasn't any corroboration, why did Pompeo discuss the matter with his Russian counterpart?
Never mind, I'll answer the question...because it did happen. I would advise you to read the book titled "The Outpost" written by Jake Tapper. It describes the lives of our American heroes in Afghanistan where no one can be trusted other than coalition brothers & of course, each other. Very much like Viet Nam, it is almost impossible to identify the enemy & the terrain is as miserable as it was in Nam. It also describes how well meaning senior offices unfamiliar with the local tribesman who are half stoned on hashish, try to negotiate & strike a deal only to find out that tribesman sets a trap to kill our men & women.
So Slim, when I hear of bounties on the heads of American soldiers I have a tendency to believe it to be a fact because that is the world we live in today. I don't believe in propaganda or conspiracy theories but I do believe even if there is the slightest hint of truth in this, we cannot let this go unaddressed as a nation. You have the luxury to wait for more corroboration while our soldiers & their families do not.

"This information was in the president's daily briefing which he fails to read."...I will need something better than Jake said this on CNN as validating this in fact happened..
The report of bounties reached low levels of the National Security Council but did not travel further up the chain of command,,,because it was deemed uncorroborated and there was dissent in the intelligence community about the veracity of the allegations. Because, it was uncorroborated the report was not included in briefings with the Vice President...or the President ...additionally the intelligence officials did not brief the President on the allegations ,,,because they did not find them credible..
This whole thing about President Trump being briefed on the bounty was fabricated by a report by the New York Times citing unnamed officials, The Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman issued a statement saying the allegations in the Times remain unproven.
This is nothing more than people like Trapper and the Trump Hating NYT's trying to politicizing this issue...

Too many people know what did & didn't take place. People know if Trump was briefed & given possible actions to take or that never took place either. We already know from Pompeo that he discussed the subject with Lavrov.
We will learn more and more when the Enemy of the People continue to share their findings with the American public on a whole bunch of Trump shenanigans.
